Back in April I got a new ten dollar bill in my change on the same day I got a 1987 Canadian dollar coin. Since then I've got lots of questions on a possible error on the ten dollar bill.
Look at the note carefully this is what a new crisp ten dollar bill looks like.
Now the question of error on the new ten dollar bill.
It is a myth people asked why does the 2006 note have a 2004 date, is that an error?
NO!
When a new bill has a design change they change the date to what ever year the change was made. If the design change is minor like a signature or adding color then a letter is added to the date, so 2004 turns to 2004A.
No ten dollar bill errors have been verified.
As for the Loonie coin it was the first Loonie coin in Canada's dollar coin series. There is another common 1987 Canadian dollar but it is 10x rarer. It is also an 11 sided coin, I think the cashier who gave it to me confused it with a U.S. golden dollar.
Here are the values of those pictured above...
Type / Country: 10 dollar bill / United States
Year: 2004A
Mintage: 51,200,000
Value: $10.00 in all grades unless it has been professional certified.
Type / Country: 1 dollar-Loon / Canada
Year: 1987
Mintage: 205,405,000
Metal: Aureate-Bronze Plated Nickel
Value: $2.25 in MS-63(this one is about $1.25 because it is worn)
Do you have a coin or bill/note and want to know its value? Leave a comment/question and I will do my best to find out the price and history for you.
219 dollars worth, for Comments/Questions click here.:
«Oldest ‹Older 1 – 200 of 219 Newer› Newest»I always thought the U.S. mints were good spots to buy coins. Today, I went to the Philidelphia mint and i was shocked. i bought a 1969 proof set and it the case was cracked. the coins could be easily slipped out of the holder.i returned and the next one was cracked the third one was ok, but it cost $24!
The older the holder the more likely it will crack.
Also that is a gift shop and from what I know about museum gift shops people manhandle the stuff and they have to be resold and it is overpriced.
1969 proof set is about $8.00
I bought my 1969 prof for $10 here LINK
They are very good and I've spent hundreds in that place.
I have a 1969 $10 bill in pretty good condition...a lot better than you'd think for a bill that's been in circulation for that many years, anyway. How much would it be worth?
1969 $10 bill in pretty good condition
Assuming crisp-uncirculated (CU) about $18.00 but if less then CU it is just face value.

$10 BILL FROM 1928 THAT LOOKS LIKE FRONT OF BILL IS OFF AND THE BACK IS CENTERED CORRECTLY
Being off-center is not anything special but without a serial number, seal color and condition I can't estimate value.
50 DOLLAR BILLSA AND ASKED FOR ANOTHER ONE ADVISED ME NO GOOD I ASKED WHAT WRONH SHE SAID HAD TRO FACES AND SHE VERIFIED THAT IS WAS LEGAL TENDER THE BANK MANAGER ORFFERED 1000
Again without a serial number, seal color and condition I can't estimate value. I'm confused with your comment it doesn't make sense.

Hi,
I've got 2 $10 bills from 1990, almost sequential serial numbers (1 off), and they show a progression of misalignment in the black ink on the front. Are these worth anything more than $10 each?

Thanks,

This is a minor Faulty Alignment error it has no extra value.
They look very crisp so it may bring $30 for the pair but that is more quality than error value.

thank you very much for the info on my bills.
I've been gathering old and odd money for sometime. most of it comes from my job as a cashier.(just missed a five dollar star note because I didn't have have another 5 to replace it with) I've really never looked up the values.
I've noticed that when the economy gets bad, people use their old,odd money to pay for items.
I've seen rolls of silver dimes, quarters and lots of wheat pennies. I've even got a nickle from a proof set in my change.
Most of my change comes from friendly cashiers, they know I collect and since they have low value they give them. I do promise if I ever find a rare coin to split the value but that has not happened yet.
Good luck with your finds.
I was wondering if anyone can tell me anything about a $10 bill. I got this bill as change back from a gas station and went to pay for lunch when the Burger King girl wouldn't take it thought it was fake b/c it reads will pay to the bearer on demand Ten Dollars. I gave her a different one, but later I looked at the bill and it is from Series 1950D. It also has the serial L14443128*. It is circulated but no rips or pinholes. You can definitely tell it has been in some wallets over the years but still in good condition. Should I hold on to it or take it to the bank and exchange it for a new one?
$10...Series 1950D. It also has the serial L14443128*. It is circulated but no rips or pinholes.
About $60.00 it is a star note so it will always have a premium at this point for most collectors it is about eye appeal and grading.
Of course a higher grade would bring more value but still even at "good grade" at $30 it can easily be sold.

I got a 1987 Canadian dollar LOONIE coin When you hold it face up and flip the coin the loon is upside down, is this a rare error coin?
1987 Canadian dollar LOONIE coin When you hold it face up and flip the coin the loon is upside down
When you hold it face up and flip the coin FROM LEFT TO RIGHT, IF the loon is upside down then it is an error called Rotated Die error.
While I've heard of this for 1982 I never seen one for 1987 it would start at $50.00 but again there are no auctions to compare it to.

Hello--I have an OFF-CENTERED both sides(hoping that makes it MORE valuable) 1950's Series A #g40272682d. It is not mint, but not torn. I was told it was fake, and they tried to confinscate it and were going to call the police!!
It may still be a fake if it is a $20 bill.
Any lower bill it may be real.
That said the Off-Center does not add any value unless a piece of another bill. Or if more than 15% of the design is missing.

Since this bill is common and ungraded eBay is you best bet.
If graded Gem Unc. 66 or higher it is best to sell on Heritage or eBay.

1987 loonie AND what looks to me as a mis-stirke of a 1987 loonie because it looks like 1937, which is impossible.
Sounds like a Struck Through Grease error which is a general term when a design element is missing from any coin. Something got in the way while minting and blocked the full 8 from being pressed.
Very common, no extra value.

Thank you so much for the info!
Hmm I guss I've done OK holding on to some of my bills,
Yes the higher bills like $50 and $100 take longer to grow in value because they last longer.

1993 C59901218A light gray ink on picture the seal and number is still very green though, i dont know why do you?
Could be an Insufficient Ink Error about $125.00.
Then again it could have been damaged by acid or water, no extra value.
how could i find out if it was insufficient ink? and why is just the picture light not the circle and numbers light too? just curious... thank you for the information :)
how could i find out if it was insufficient ink? and why is just the picture light not the circle and numbers light too?
The front portrait and design are made the 1st printing the and the serial number and seals are made during the 3rd and finally printing.
Just the 1st missing indicates a true error.
If the 1st and 3rd printing were missing this would indicate damage.
You can put a picture on line and link it here but I can only guess maybe 50/50.
The better way to confirm is have a coin dealer or coin club to look at it in hand. Expert eyes are needed.
ok ill go to my local coin dealer thank you!
also i have an odd sounding 1980p quarter it sounds almost like a mix between a clad and a silver quarter, do you have any ideas on this? my only idea is that it is fake...

Weigh it.
It may be an Off-Metal error but only can be known by weight. Also check the edge to see if there is a copper strip.

About $2.00 but it great to keep these perfect notes aside because as time goes on they will gain value faster.
If the eliminate the dollar bill and 20 years pass these maybe worth $20 each. Don't expect to retire with these.
Good instincts keep hunting.
Awesome! I was thinking the same thing! I'll hold on to these, and i think ill try to get several consec's every week when i get paid, it could be a good investment...
i think ill try to get several consec's every week when i get paid, it could be a good investment...
Honestly if you want a better investment buy $5.00 worth of silver coins.
I would say keep an eye out for older notes, error notes, or star notes. Just get a few example of new notes they take too long to gain value.
thanks for the opinion! I add about and ounce a month to my silver, and i work a register at my job so i find silver coins everyonce in a while, it makes the day! haha ive been roll searching halves and thats sweet! and i just remembered I have a $2 star note serial I03050571* and its in ok shape, it has a slight tear but other than that it in good shape, do you have any idea for a value?
I really apprecieate your input
$2 star note serial I03050571* and its in ok shape, it has a slight tear but other than that it in good shape,
Assuming 2003 it's about $2.50 very common.
Great to hear about how you collect.
Finding silvers for face value is always great. I also like the world coins I find even when they little value.
Thank you!
I keep every foreign coin i come across, theyre just very interesting, I was given about 50 mexican 20 centavo coins from about 1944-1970 and i love them, amazing detail

Nice in extra-fine condition 1951, 1959 are about $9.00 each.
1952 is $5.00 in the same grade.
Most are about $1.00 in that grade but it depends on year of course.

Yes, I wrote about here 2003-A F-M.
Basically it was a regular run with a low printing.

thats ok, any idea about what i should look out for?
For F-M notes look for very-low or very high serial numbers.
For star notes just keep any you can afford to and check to see if they are more scarce.
Just keep an eye out for anything you think maybe special. Worse comes to worse just use them normally the next day.

No problem, that 1928 is the best of the 3 it also will probably gain the most value over the next few years.
Awesome! i just pick up unusual things, i work a few cash registers and do soe deposits for my job and i just grab stuff, replace it with the face value, and i also go to my local dealer about once a month and pick up a few things, thats where i got the 1928 and i immediately gravitated to it when i saw it, i only paid 28 for it so thats not too bad!

That was my post before, and with your knowledge would it gain value over time enough to hold onto it. Or should I sell for a gain; and invest into perhaps silver coins? I am trying to improve the value of my collection; and I think coins gain greater than paper notes. Or would you think otherwise?
Thanks again!

Well I have a price list from 2004 and that $5 1934-D was $85.
Silver was $9.00 an ounce.
Today that bill is still $85 while silver is around $30.
Bills and notes tend to stay flat gaining little value only when new notes are issued.
Metals and coins tends to be more active since the metal itself is used in other ways.
So unless your really into collecting notes then sell it for anything above $50 and get silver coins instead. You can get a 5-6 low grade junk silver from 1934 or invest in one coin that is a higher grade.
Sorry meant to say $50 not $5.

Hello,
I found a 1950 10 dollar bill in very crisp condition and the paper feels very thick not worn at all. It does have two creases in it but other than that perfect and the creases are not very deep and I think can be removed? No edges torn or frayed and all color is non faded. I think it came from a collection and was used. The serial number is L12377983D Series -1950 "D" C. Douglas Dillion (Secretary of Treasury) and Kathyrn OHay or Oday (something)cant make out her handwriting for the last name. there is the number "12" in all four corners and a small mark in the far right "G496".
Thanks!!

I have two Silver Certificate $5 bills from 1953, one 1953-a and one 1953-b. Also I have two $1 Silver Certificates (1957 and 1957b).
Comparing each side-by-side reveals an interesting effect that I am wondering if they are errors:
The Blue Seal looks shifted to the left on one and looks correctly centered over the word FIVE on the other. On the $1 notes the Blue seal on one looks correctly centered over the WASHINGTON,D.C. having on the "WA" in Washington off the seal and the other looks to be higher and has "WAS" off the deal to the left.
