2013 Singapore 10 Cents

This is the most recent design change in the Singaporean ten cent coin. Previously the ten coin from 1985-2012 had the star jasmine plant. For the most recent issue from 2013 - 2014 the switched to public housing.

Around the picture of their public housing was is a very stylish lion outline. That was not the only change to the coin. Currently they are being made of nickel-plated steel instead of copper-nickel like previous coins. I am guessing that is what prompted the design change. copper-nickel is just too expensive these days, relatively speaking of course it is just a difference of half a cent.

1991 Singapore 10 Cents

This is the most common of the 1985-1991 Singapore 10 cents series. They increased production because by 1992 they changed the series slightly. Got this as a dime but it still has equal value.

Singapore is trying to stabilize the global economy by complying to banking rules. Currently the Singapore dollar is $1.25 for every U.S. dollar.

2010 Singapore 10 Cents

From what I understand this coin was only available in collectors sets. What little information I can gather says that none of them were issued for circulation but still ended up circulating. This is also the least common 10 cents from this series.

It does look a bit shinier than a circulating coin. It also has haze damage typically seen on proof and uncirculated coins. Still it has no extra value because of the low grade and low interest.

2010 Singapore 20 Cents

The least common of all the circulating 20 cents from Singapore, series 1992-2012. Granted it was estimated over 10 million were made but that is a third of the normal minting.
 

There is a powder-puff plant on the back with the denomination. These were copper-nickel and when that got too expensive they switched to nickel-plated steel.

1990 Singapore 10 Cents

The Singaporean ten cents is the size of a U.S. dime and that is how I got it in my change. It features the date, coat of arms and Singapore written in four languages, SINGAPURA 新加坡 SINGAPORE சிங்கப்பூர். On the other side is the denomination and star jasmine plant.  

The coin is slightly misaligned but that does not add value. Unfortunately it also has verdigris damage and that will lower the value to just metal content. Luckily this is a common coin that did not have much value to begin with so no major loss.

1992 Singapore Cent

This tiny little Singapore one cent was given to me by a friend who found it while working behind a register. This one cent is smaller than a U.S. dime so I am not sure how it was accidentally given in change.

Assume your computer has the proper language packets you can read the following: The front has the date, coat of arms and Singapore written in four languages, SINGAPURA 新加坡 SINGAPORE சிங்கப்பூர்.

The reverse has a what I assume are orchids.

1990 Singapore Dollar

The Singapore dollar is doing well against the Yen and other Asian currencies. Even in circulated condition the exchange value is outpacing the collectors value. Typical of most dollar coins it is golden, has edge writing, and is thicker than normal coins.

The front has the date, coat of arms and Singapore written in four languages, SINGAPURA 新加坡 SINGAPORE சிங்கப்பூர்.

The edge is reeded and has REPUBLIC OF SINGAPORE for extra security.

The reverse has a periwinkle which I imagine is bluer in real life.

Singapore Twenty Cents

I've never been to Singapore and probably couldn't find it on a blank map but every few years I get change from this country.

Singapore coins pre-1985 were all about the fish, scorpion fish to swordfish to seahorses. Then in 1985 they switched to flower designs. I'm not exactly sure why but I suspect it has to due with overfishing, land reclamation, and pollution. They have a good forest program and can always keep plants alive even in small numbers.

The obverse has Singapore's national arms with a lion and a tiger, although lions are not native it symbolizes the old guard. A ribbon that says "Majulah Singapura",or "Onward Singapore" in Malay. Singapore is written in all four official languages, Malay, Chinese, English, and Tamil.

On the reverse is a native powder puff plant that would be pink and all fluffy in real life.

In 2003 Singapore joined a long list of countries that stopped issuing one cent and five cents coins. This is a main reason most of my Singapore finds have been ten cents or higher.

Mostly Canadians, also the oldest Candian coin I ever found was at that 1942 and it was at Starbucks.

The strange one was the fifty cents piece from Singapore

A note to all you New Yorkers Scott A. Travers will spend two valuable pennies this weekend. He already spent a 1914D cent valued at $350.00 buying a pretzel from a clueless vendor in Time Square . He will spend this weekend a 1908 cent and a 1909S VDB cent valued at $200.00 and $1000.00 respectively. This is why I always check my change.
