After Christmas I went to do some post-holiday shopping and received this bill in my change.
I found a 1935H dollar also known as a silver certificate. Notice the seal is blue instead of green.
The H in 1935H means the design was modified from the original 1935 bill, probably to add a new signature of a treasurer.
Here's a sample of what I found in my change over the last ten years.
$1.00 bills
1935E value in very good(VG) = $1.50
1935H value in VG = $2.00
1957-star note value in VG = $2.00
1957A value in VG = $1.25
1969B value in VG = $1.25
$2.00
1928G value in VG = $7.50
1953A value in VG = $4.00
$20.00
1950C value in VG = $25.00
Of course some are higher grades but most are very good.
Prices updated to 2008.

Are 1909 $10.00 bills worth anything? What should I look for on them? I have a few?
Thanks
I never heard of any 1909 U.S. bills so I can't guess on prices.
If you meant 1999 $10 then any star note especially the BE-* serail numbers are the most sought after ones.
this is one of the best coin websites i hve been on. you always keep current articles up and respond to visitors comments.

Hello,
I just recently discovered that I am holding onto two 1935E series Silver Certificates. The serial numbers however, both start with a *(star). I was wondering if these may possibly have any value?
Megan
1935E star-notes are worth about $3.00 each in very fine condition.
I've got a 1957 dollar bill (no letter after the date) signed by Robert B. Anderson (or Andersen?), and a few other 1957 notes with letters A and B after the date. The 1957 (no letter) bill is in circulated condition.
And I have two 1935 one dollar bills, in circulated condition. They are 1935C (signed by John W Snyder) and 1935 F (signed by Robert B Anderson).
I also have a 100 rupee note from India, which does not seem to have a date on it, it depicts Gandhi on the front and the watermark, and on the reverse, an image of the himalayan mountains. A silver security strip. Fair condition, still retains some crispness, but there's a very small tear on the top center, probably worn out from being folded in that spot.
ANYTHING you can tell me about the value (or non-value) of any of these notes will be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you in advance for any reply you can make to my inquiry.
Hello Aisha,
1957 dollar bill signed by Robert B. Anderson $2.00
1957A $2.00
1957B $2.50
1935 dollar bill $5.00
1935C $4.00
1935F $2.00
The thing to look for on notes or bills are the serial numbers. For example...
1935F P81000001I--B54000000J $2.00
1935F B71640001J--B72000000J $150.00
star notes of that year average $3.25
100 rupee, India and on the reverse, an image of the himalayan mountains. $2.00 this year is 1996.
To "man" :
Thank you very much for your answers about the potential values of the notes I described to you! It definitely made me glad I didn't follow my husband's advice to just go ahead and spend them. But I wanted to ask you why the particular serial numbers range of 1935F B71640001J--B72000000J is worth $150.00. Why is that? and does it have to be in unused crisp condition to be worth so much?
If you don't mind it, I will write the year dates and the serial numbers of my silver certificate bills and you could tell me if any of those serial numbers are a numismatic's delight?
Here goes:
1935C F 04477746 E
1935F T 86757317 I
1957 I 51667508 A
1957A A 74910289 A
1957A C 32785124 A
and my newest addition, a starred note! -
1957B *29049700 B
This note has been signed by (if I read it correctly): Kathryn O'Hay Granchan, treasurer, and C. Douglas Dillon, secretary of treasury. It is in uncirculated condition.
I will appreciate your help to understand better about the potential values of these notes, with your knowledge of what serial numbers can enhance the value. I'm also interested to know what you make of my newest addition, whether it is worth being excited over. :)
Thanks in advance.
I would be posting articles and pictures but I'm busy with finals and internships but I will try to answer the best I can.
1935F B71640001J--B72000000J is worth
$150.00 in Very Fine and
$900.00 in crisp-uncirculated.
Blocks are the prefix and suffix letters on notes in 1935F & G it is B-J.
Gropus are the actual numbers of bills made, between the B-J.
Collectors have identified thease groups.
B00000001J-B54000000J are for 1935F
B54000001J-B71640000J are for 1935G
B71640001J-B72000000J are for 1935F
B72000001J-B99999999J are for 1935G
That group worth $150-$900 is the smallest group with only 360,000 made while all others had 1,200,000,000 made. Making that group rare to collectors.
1935C F04477746E $3.50
1935F T86757317I $2.00
1957 I51667508A $2.00
1957A A74910289A $2.00
1957A C32785124A $2.00
1957B *29049700B $2.50
Star notes are great they go up and down in prices and currently are stabalized at the low end. Modern star notes are getting rare.
Thank you so much! Best of luck with your exams and the internship!

2004A $20 bills are very new and I heard of light or off colored seals on the note but also some people have been bleaching them.

It is worth about $25.00 in uncirculated. less then $15.00 in very-fine.

It sounds like a copy or fake sold by souvenir shops. It should be gold maybe if you post a picture someone may recognize it.

1935 silver dollar certificate in very poor condition.
Those are great notes but in poor condition it would only be around $10.00 on average depending on the serial number.
If the quality is not as bad an can be graded at least very-good it would be $30.00. Only if you have a unique serial number should it be graded.

My 1963 $1, serial B44444444B has been circulated-I have it about 25 years.
3 or more folds brings down the value, stains, ink marks, non-sharp corners, and tears also bring down the value.
Assuming your bill has all of these It would be in good condition about $120.00
In very good it is $250.00.
As long as it doesn't have any major tears, stains, or missing parts it will fetch a good amount.

2003 $1 the FRB seal is to the right of and below the treasury seal at about 5:00
I looked for this error and could not find it. It can only happen as some sort of Printed Fold error.
You may need an error expert to see it.
It would start at $75.00 as a fold error.
Are the serial numbers also shifted?
i have 2 1935 silver cert 1 dollar bills, neat looking bills but not in great shape.

based on the series and serial, anything special about these?

Aloha--Please let me know how much my dollar bill I've had for 20 years is worth?
S45651603C, Hawaii on back and front. kept in "baggie" thru the years, therefore, okay-good shape. Mahalo!
Sorry that dollar bill would be a 1935A series.
2 1935 silver cert 1 dollar bills, neat looking bills but not in great shape.
I think you got them in reverse it should be...
1935f a44398431j about $4.00
1935c u64262230d about $3.00
$1 1935A S45651603C, Hawaii
It's about $30.00 in the shape you describe.
thanks for your response although i'm unsure--all i know is the following (if you could clarify):
series 1935A then C5382
#S45651603C
Sec. of Tres.-Henry M Jr.
AGAIN, Mahalo!
Hello .Thanks for your time . No , the serial numbers are not shifted , and there is no fold either. I haven't seen anything as drastic as this bill anywhere on the internet. A few similar , but ,no seal this far to the right.

Not sure what your looking for but the value is about $30.00 in the shape you describe.
15,000,000 were printed making it the most common of the Hawaiian notes.
...A few similar , but ,no seal this far to the right.
I agree yours is very odd, if I ever see something like it I'll make a post.
Good luck, try a coin/currency forum they have lots of years of experience.

First:
Great pictures.
Second:
Horrible bill it would not grade good(G-4)
Third:
It's a fake.
The area wear the seal is has been bleached out as evident in the green serial number showing signs of fading.
The seal in it's new position is blurry. No part of a note is ever this fuzzy since the ink is intaglio. Some one used a printer and printed this on causes the printer ink to leach into the cotton paper.
The center white color around the L is a darker shade then the rest of the bill. This happens only when a bill is copied and reprinted.
Also look carefully around the seal and it has the same green-white reprint color.
I assumed this error was not possible since the serial numbers and the seal are printed at the same time along with the 4 number "12".
If this was a fold error one of the "12" would be shifted slightly.
It's a fake and a bad one.
Sorry.
Thanks for the info. I told my buddy it was either unique and we were rich or a fake, too bad , had fakes before but , never been rich . Thanks again
Mahalo for your assistance and have a good one!

Hi,
I have three US Bills as follows:
1935 E
$1 Silver Certificate w/Blue Seal
Serial T 42620513 G
Good Condition, circulated and has folds but has been kept flat for a few decades.
1950 B (Minneaplolis, MN Mint)
$10 Bill - Big Block
Serial I 33957052 A
Good Condition but off centered cut with a small ink-type stain, circulated, and has folds but also kept flat for a few decades
1934 B (NY, NY Mint)
$20 Bill - Big Block
Serial B 35532779 B
Good Condition, circulated and has folds but also kept flat for a few decades.
Any feedback on the value is appreciated.
Thanks, Tess
1935 E $1 Silver Certificate
Serial T 42620513 G
Good Condition
About $3.00
1950 B $10 Bill - Big Block
Serial I 33957052 A
Good Condition
Just $10.00 because of stain still it's common.
1934 B $20 Bill - Big Block
Serial B 35532779 B
Good Condition
About $27.50
are you sure
are you sure
Pretty sure, if you shop around for similar items it will be around that price.
The problem is condition and rarity.
All those bills may grade at most very-fine but every fold and stain drops the value.
Second these are the most common dates, bills are produced by the millions, yours were made the billions. That is ten times more common than most.
Hey,
Thanks for the information. I have had these bills since I was young and they are kept in a fire proof safe. I wasn't sure if there is any additional value over their face value.
It seems that the Silver Cert and the $20 bill, as old as my mom (73), have more value than face and that I can spend that $10 now instead of holding onto it!! woohoo...LOL
I like your site, it's pretty cool.
Regards, Tess

This is the Wide Face variety because a design change made the lines in one of the leaves around the border different then the standard.
It is a small difference but collectors are obsessive.
Unfortunately yours is the most common of the varieties about $20.00 in crisp-uncirculated or $12.00 in very-fine.

Hi,
I have a 10 Korun from czechoslovakia, yr 1986. Since the country has been split, I was wondering how much do you reckon it would be worth? And also I have a 10 rupee note from india printed between 1957 to 1962. Would that be worth any more than the present valuation? It would be awesome if you could let me know.
Thanks
btw this blog is awesome... so much info...

I have a 1935 silver certificate with "HAWAII" stamped across the side with the pyramid on it. It's really bent up and covered in dirt. It looks like there's sheet rock on it and it has some tears. The serial is Y70211447B. There is not a stamp on the left of Washington, and there are a few other things that are missing or different when compared with a 2006 dollar bill. I guess that's normal though...
If you could tell if this is worth anything I would be very grateful-
Thank you!

There is a safe way to clean it but it is complicated and not really worth it.

Anything before 1976 has a small premium.
From 1976-2003A only the star notes have a higher value.
The rest are just a few dollars above $2 only in crisp-uncirculated.
The rarest are star notes for the 1928B at about $25,000.00 in very-fine.
thanks for the quick response, i will prolly have more questions soon, but here is one more for now.. are bicentennial silver dollars worth anything more than face value? have a very large collection of them
bicentennial silver dollars worth anything more than face value?
Of course the silver ones are always at silver prices of $5.50 currently.
The clad ones are only $1.00.
For either clad or silver they must be MS-63 to have real value and then it's just 4 times the prices I just listed.

I assume you mean $1.00 bills.
1935a yellow seal "north africa" "star" note serial *92176353 note
There is a problem because according to the book your bill is not in the range plus your missing the last letter in the serial number, is it A or B?
If yours is real it may be worth thousands but I would need to see a good scan because I'm confused.
2nd consecutive note of the same type, serial number R92176354 with 6 signatures on the back "short snorter".
Again there is information missing from the serial number but without the signatures it's about $30.00 the signatures may add value if you can track down who signed it.
You said three notes but I only count two if you want to ask again and add some pictures please feel free to do so.
I was a bit confused with what you actually have.
the serial numbers are * 92176353 C with the yellow seal on the first and the 2nd is R 92176354 C with a yellow seal featuring the signatures on the back called a short snorter is a tradition from many ways of military past and different traditions. It is basically defaced money since people signed the bill with ink. These bills were my grandfathers and came back with him after his service in WW2. Both have been in my family and will remain in my family but was wondering about values for insurance purposes( trying to decide if insurance is worth it on a portion of family heirlooms). I am unable to provide scans as I am lacking a digital camera or a scanner at this moment.
Also i meant "these, not "three". I apologize for the typo.
* 92176353 C with the yellow seal
No yellow seal star note ever ended with a C only an A.
Anyone I asked says this not possible and ask for a scan of the note.
Until the time you can get good pictures it would fine to insure it for $150.00 because that is the average value of a low grade 1935A star note.
If you find a PCGS authorized dealer in your area ask him if he can attribute this note.
2nd is R 92176354 C with a yellow seal
I'm very familiar with short snorters and if they have signature of the President, the First Lady, or any Admirals or heroes of the war it can be worth a lot.
For non-famous signatures on a North African note it's about $40.00 if you have a collection with pictures of all the signers and one or two "war heroes" then it starts at $50 and climbs fast.

It is in very good condition.
These were made in small numbers and over half of the printed notes were later destroyed.
Yours is from a printing of 69,360 although the highest number reported was F00021935A.
In very fine it's about $1,600.00 it might be worth grading if you think it would be crisp-uncirculated(CU).
In CU it's about $2,500.00.
Outstanding site and excellent response time. I commend you! Based on some I've read here, I have a ballpark figure of an answer, but best to be sure.

Hi,
I just recently came across a $25 stack of uncirculated $1 bills series 1963. They are sequential from serial L03876726A through L03876750A. Are the Bills worth anything higher than face value or is the stack worth more?
$25 stack of uncirculated $1 bills series 1963. They are sequential from serial L03876726A through L03876750A.
In crisp-unirculated they're about $2.50 each the stack does not bring in any extra value.
They are a common note with 100,000,000 printed.

1950 $20 bill. It is a series A seriel number D59011385A. It is in near mint condition.
This must be a series 1950-A it's about $25.00.
Hello,
Could you tell me what value my Star notes and my older bills might have.
$1 1969 G37909484B
$1 2003A F00622549*
$1 2003A E04067556*
I also today received a $1 2003A
L35190077Q washed out kinda bill but is shorter in length with a tiny mark on the back left corner like a printer trim line.
If it's fake or real would a counterfit pen test ruin the value. Thanks

L35190077Q washed out kinda bill but is shorter in length with a tiny mark on the back left corner like a printer trim line.
The pen test may ruin it, it sounds real possibly a cutting error very minor in that condition it would have less then $3.00 value.
Couple of more Star Notes got today, reverse #'s on one.

Great website!
$1 2003A F14416336* about $2.50 unfortunately the numbers are not true repeaters or radar so no extra value.
$1 2006 L00464544* about $25.00 this one is fairly new Sept. 2007 and a low printing of 640,000.
Oh I forgot to add I assumed both were crisp-uncirculated.
Hi received a $20 star note today could it be anything of value? tia

What you are talking about is fancy numbers. Unfortunately none of these completely qualify.
If they are crisp-uncirculated they may have a $2.00 value but the numbers barely affect it.
The ones worth keeping are
$1 2003 C 00020100 C it will reach the peak value in the year 2010.
$1 2003A L 33000030 Q
$1 2003 K 45777777 F
$1 2003A B 22222352 C
Lesser still...
$1 2001 F 74444416 E
$1 2006 H 88807777 B
Yet they are not true repeaters yours are "5 or more of a kind".
i have a one dollar bill from 1957 with serial number U82625355A and it's a silver certificate, is that worth anything?
thanks
