2006 $1 Star Note D-*

Do you have star note and want to know its value? Leave a comment

I am going out of order just to publish something on schedule. This is my third find for 2011 and since the other were from...you guessed it Canada I will post them later this week.

Watching the cashier take out crisp bills for my change was nice until she crumpled them like that they can get separated. Anyone who gets crisp notes notices that they stick together real good. I understand that crimping a fresh note is sometimes necessary but it still makes the collector in me cringe.

This once straight star note from 2006 was right in the middle of these two notes from 2009.

What does that mean? Were some 2009 B-A dollar bills  destroyed?

Not sure.

The star notes were printed in August 2009 but that does not mean they are used immediately. The regular dollar bills were made in April 2010. That seems like a long time use these star replacement notes. It could be that some notes between the numbers you see int the picture were damaged in some way.

Were I a bit more obsessive I could use plate position to find out if this was possible but I already used the 2009 bills and I still have a social life. But if you want to make some sort of plate position app I will download it.

Here's the stats...
Type/Country: 1 Dollar / United States
Year: 2006
Date Printed: August 2009
Printings: 640,000
Run: 1st and only from D00000001* - D00640000*
Value: $25.00 in CU(crisp-uncirculated)

Pretty sure I can flatten this bill again since it was bent not fully folded, I'll stick in a book for a few months.

Do you have a dollar bill and want to know its value? Leave a comment/question and I will do my best to find out the price and history for you.

Those star notes are so neat. I keep my eye out for them, but haven't seen one yet.

Man said...

Yeah, they're scarce. I still wonder if I did find a real valuable one could I sell it. I've never sold anything.

It appears that a previous owner of those 3 notes put the star note in between the other two to hinder the two regular dollars from sticking together. I've done that in the past. Since the star note was also crisp I guess they still stuck together enticing the cashier to crumple them up and ruin them for you.

On a side note, several years ago I purchased 24 crisp consecutive 1995 $1 star notes at a coin show. Although I found them interesting when I first saw them, I regretted purchasing them soon afterwards. I didn't have enough cash for much neater stuff I saw at that show, which was nearly a 2 hour drive and I got mildly rear-ended on the way there.

Possibly.

Yeah it happens that is why I like plucking stuff from my change.

Jamaican 1975 Gold $100.00 Coins (900/1000 Fine Gold/written on back) both from Franklin Mint, with (Columbus on front),Coat of arms and(Jamaica 1975)on back.both Franklin Mint,

1 Uncirculated coin in sealed pack about $325.00

1 proof about $330.00

I answered this before but I may have been confused with the description so the value has changed a little.

Finding stuff in one's change is fun. Copper keeps going up in value so I started pulling copper pennies from my change. My main numismatic interest however, includes broken bank notes which I cannot pull out of my change.

With copper pennies, one can get rolls from the bank and keep the pre-1982 and the 1982 pennies that weigh about 3.5 grams (versus 2.5 grams). I've noticed that about 20% of the pennies are still 95% copper versus the newer copper clad. For Canadian pennies the pre-1996 pennies are the ones to keep.

Yeah I saw your site, very cool I added to my blog list if you don't mind.

For Canadian pennies the pre-1996 pennies are the ones to keep.
If Canada votes to eliminate their cent even newer ones will double in value.

Just stumbled across your blog and I have a question about a 1974 ten dollar bill I have. It is serial number B 80635217 G, and the lower right hand corner, if looking at the front, is totally clear of ink, and is slightly torn. It looks like it was caught in the machine and was torn, while also failing to receive ink. The back is inked in the same spot. I'll link some pictures when I can.
Forgot...I also have a series of 1928 B, 20 dollar bill, serial number C 06921739 A, that is misaligned on the back Just curious about it as well. Thanks!

Here are the links for pictures of both bills.

Minor insufficient ink error would be about $25 but the tear which looks like a true error can easily be faked so it may lower the value $10.
Only if you see another example can you be sure if it is torn or an error.

1928 B, 20 dollar bill, serial number C 06921739 A, that is misaligned on the back
The back is a very minor misalignment and common error for that time, about $40.00.

I have a 1996 star note serial #J01698194*. Does this note have any value? Also I have two older style $20's, the frame around Jackson picture on my 1985 Twenty has "2 rings" when my other Twenty 1995 has "3 rings" on the frame around his picture. Is this difference because it changed over the years? Or is one of them a mistake? If so which one is the mistake, and is it worth anything? Thanks for your time.

Yes after 1988 they added an extra security ring.
It has no extra value.

I know this might sound stupid and totally immature to a money collector like you, but um...why did they make star notes in the first place? And why are they SO special?

Man said...

why did they make star notes in the first place? And why are they SO special?

Star notes are replacement notes when the regular gets damaged in some way. Instead of reprinting the notes with the same serial numbers the government makes special star notes to indicate they are not the same but replacements.

They are special because they are made in such small amounts compared to regular notes. That said they are not always valuable but always have a higher value than regular notes.

I hope that wasn't too confusing.

Thanks,
that helped a lot! Don't worry wasn't TOO confusing!

I actually came across two star notes today while at work. The first one I found was a 2006 $1 with the serial number B 00913157 and I would grade it at Fine. The second star note I came across was a 1963 $100 with the serial number I 00080033. It has some folds and a few small holes so I would classify it around Very Good or Fair. If you could tell me what these would be worth I would appreciate it.

The motto "In God We Trust" was not added until 1957. So the guy at the bank is ignorant on this subject.
Older bills often come up as counterfeit since they are older and more worn.

That said I suspect this one is real since heavy counterfeiting did not start until the 80s.

About $115.00 try showing it to a coin dealer or coin club in your area.
Even if counterfeit something this old would still have some value.

Hello.

I am looking to sell a bunch of my money collection, and I have a question or two. I have never been a serious collector, I would just get what I thought looked cool at the time. I really have no idea what any of my stuff is worth, so I was hoping that you could help me out, so that I don’t get ripped off. I have 10 consecutive uncirculated $1 star notes, that I am wondering the value of. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The info on the dollars are:

$1 Uncirculated condition L01328611* through L01328620*

Is the fact that these star note are consecutive increase the value? Or should I break them up and sell them individually?
Thank you in advance for your help.

Man said...

2001 $1 Uncirculated condition L01328611* - L01328620* about $3.00 each these are common and gains no value because they are consecutive.

Since they are common they are difficult to sell so maybe selling all of them for less than $30 may be your best option.

Perfect notes are the most wanted if graded.

I hope you can sell them on average eBay seller have been have been selling these bank band notes at $325.00, ungraded.

It may be more to sell individually but with the time and effort it is easier to sell as a banded package for less.

Hi there,

A few things I found at work and wanted pricing on (if you could please);

-(nostar, uncirc, in series) 1990 $100 b20011922b + b20011923b

-(crisp, though dogeared on right corners) 2006 $1 k02499685*

-(red note/ink, torn evenly down the right side removing the 2 + visible folds... not the best shape ever) 1953c $2 A76372274A

-clean gold quarter - 2001 Rhode Island

-clean proof quarter - 2003 Illinois

-Are (circulated) Centennial/1971/72/74/77/78 Eisenhower silver dollars worth anything? Does the little D on them make a difference? Some have it and some don't. I have about 70 of them total.

-Circulated 1968 and earlier Kennedy half dollars worth anything? What about the Centennials? One woman at work swears that the Centennials have value @_@

-Circulated 1954 and 1964 (seem to be solid silver I'm guessing) quarters worth anything?

-We also get uncirculated, $2 2003 and/or 2003a, in series, bills at Christmas to give as "gift money" at work; are these really worth much? Probably not for another 20 years right? :P

-Lastly, is it worth me collecting unopened rolls of the new presidential dollars? I bought a few of Lincoln and Grant, but I'm wondering if it's worth the effort to keep them around.

Thanks for your help! <3

(nostar, uncirc, in series) 1990 $100 b20011922b + b20011923b
--About $125.00 each

crisp, though dogeared on right corners) 2006 $1 k02499685*
--About $2.50

(red note/ink, torn evenly down the right side removing the 2 + visible folds... not the best shape ever) 1953c $2 A76372274A
--About $2.00

-clean gold quarter - 2001 Rhode Island
--About $0.25 gold-plating is considered damage

-clean proof quarter - 2003 Illinois
--About $1.00 if you meant mint-state because a cleaned coin is a damaged coin.

(circulated) Centennial/1971/72/74/77/78 Eisenhower silver dollars worth anything? Does the little D on them make a difference? Some have it and some don't. I have about 70 of them total.
--Only S would change value.
blank or D they are just $1.00 each

Circulated 1968 and earlier Kennedy half dollars worth anything? What about the Centennials? One woman at work swears that the Centennials have value @_@
--Bicentennial coins have no extra value unless S mintmark.
1968-1970 about $6.00 each
1970-2011 just $0.50

Circulated 1954 and 1964 (seem to be solid silver I'm guessing) quarters worth anything?
--About $7.15 each

We also get uncirculated, $2 2003 and/or 2003a, in series, bills at Christmas to give as "gift money" at work; are these really worth much? Probably not for another 20 years right? :P
--About $5.00 in crisp-uncirculated grade, it will probably stay the same for the next 20 years depending on serial number.

Lastly, is it worth me collecting unopened rolls of the new presidential dollars? I bought a few of Lincoln and Grant, but I'm wondering if it's worth the effort to keep them around.
--These coin turn ugly quickly and mint-state shiny coins will be worth much more in the future. Unfortunately the paper/plastic rolls will tarnish the coins.
So many people have unopened rolls that they hold very little extra value.

I have two consecutive $1 series 1988 one with a misalignment error. I imagine that must be kinda rare to have them consecutive, one with and one without an error. I am looking for some insight into how it happened and if it could be worth anything.

I have a picture if you want to send me an email. I don't know how to post a picture on here.

If you mean 2009 $1 G00574115* it is because of the star but also it is a low printing of 640,000.

Another thing is that it's new. Value for most bills begins to drop as more gets graded over time.

All of what you listed would not sell well.
But if your great at eBay then try there butto get the most value save for 20 years or spend them on silver.

Appreciate it, any good places online for silver?

The U.S. Mint , Canada mint but for silver best bet is to go to local pawn shops and coin dealers because you get current prices.

Online tends to overcharge since the price is rising so fast. Again unless your good on eBay.

Silver should bottom out at $30 then go back up. Now is the best time to buy as an investment anyone looking for quick turnovers will be disappointed.

Good luck, buying a few dollars in "junk silver coins" is also a good way to collect coins and have safer investments.

Looked into some junk silver coins and had an opportunity to buy about 5 ounces at $23 so i had to jump on it. Im going to try and get as much as i can while the price is still low, it actually dropped to as low as 26 an ounce today but went back up to 28 and then 30. Any idea to the expected value of silver in a few years?

Man said...

Any idea to the expected value of silver in a few years?

High, even if the economy fully recovers silver is still an industrial metal so a horrible or thriving economy will boost silver values.

In between times like now will have jumping up and down every few days.

The next big overvaluation should come close to the 2012 false-Mayan prediction of the end of days. Expect $50 or higher for a short time.

Anonymous said...

Back to 50 or higher by next year would be awesome. Do you think it may drop a lot more below 30 for now or stay pretty much around there?

Man said...

Do you think it may drop a lot more below 30 for now or stay pretty much around there?

I don't expect much of a drop. It should because ever second it drops under $30 the buyer and speculators run it up quickly.

The biggest factors are natural or man-made disasters and luckily we are quiet but I expect late 2012 to be more extreme.

Yes, a few minor folds are fine but it should look and feel almost to get the values quoted.

If very folded and looks highly circulated then it basically has just face value.
Both had slightly high printings for star notes so they will not go up in value for a long time (25+ years).

brand new uncirculated 2009 $1 bill, serial A77033077A, any clue to the value?
--About $40.00 for this radar note.

buffalo nickels that are undated, have you had any experience with nic-a-date or vinegar to bring out the date or should i stay away from them?
--Nic-a-date works well.
Vinegar not good.
Either one is detectable if you plan on grading and will ruin the value, but if it's just for personal use then try nic-a-date.

Anonymous said...

Awesome, any clue on where to sell the note?

as for the buffalos, would there be any reason not to use the nic-a-date? it seems like the value of the nickel cannot really go down as it is already dateless, possibly only up if it is a key or harder to find date?

Man said...

Awesome, any clue on where to sell the note?
--eBay, coin/currency forums, or ...
Link of a buyer I never used them so be cautious.

as for the buffalos, would there be any reason not to use the nic-a-date? it seems like the value of the nickel cannot really go down as it is already dateless, possibly only up if it is a key or harder to find date?
--True if it is a key date it still can have some value but the chance of that is slim.
Nic-a-date is still a mild acid and that is damaging to a coin, even at this low grade.
So unless your obsessed with keeping coins pure then go ahead.

Not that my opnion matters but I would not use it or buy a coin that someone else did. But I do not get upset when others use it.

Anonymous said...

Your opinion is appreciated. I have about 300 dateless buffalo nickels that a coin dealer near me would buy for 25 cents a piece, I will have to see if he would still take them if I were to use it on them. If so I will probably try it to see what dates might come up on a few. I will try looking at a few forums and see what my bill might go for.

$10 1985 B39140539I just $10.00
$20 1981 L27936532C just $20.00

Assuming very-fine, just use them.

Thanks for your help with the 1980s notes, I ended up spending them and got these coins. Wondering if you could help with the value, thanks
1799 Britannia Georgius III Gratia Rex Half Penny
1806 Britannia Georgius III D:G.Rex. Half Penny
1837 Britannia Gulielmus IIII Dei Gratia Half Penny

1845 Braided Hair large cent penny

Also an 1848 seated liberty half dime, appears in pretty good condition however it looks as is someone tried to drill a hole near the top rim but did not go all the way through

Thanks again
