Finally I Got A Star

Do you have an star note and want to know its value? Leave a comment/question and I will do my best to find out the price and history for you.

While I'm happy so many people are finding star notes it has been a while since I got one. Mostly since I hardly use cash anymore.

Then on September 25 I got this bill in my change. It is a 2003A F-Atlanta series star note.

The back is normal as you can tell.

The star note is a replacement note used by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing when a defect or error is found on the regular run of notes. There is no replacement of specific serial number instead they replace blocks of notes with the newest star notes. Since less then 1% of notes need replacement star notes are scarce.

Still they are not rare since they are printed by the hundred thousand or million. They are printed in runs of a specific amount and the lower the run the more it is worth to collectors.
  • Less than 320,000 printed is lowest.
  • Exactly 320,000 printed is very-low.
  • Between 320,000 and 640,000 is low.
  • Exactly 640,000 is medium.
  • More than 640,000 is high and normal.

Type/Country: 1 Dollar/United States
Year: 2003A
Printings: 3,200,000
Run: 4th from F09600001* - F12800000*
Value: $2.50 in VF

It has plenty of folds and is probably worth less then listed, but that is true with most collectibles.

Do you have currency and want to know its value? Leave a comment/question and I will do my best to find out the price and history for you.

1663 dollars worth, for Comments/Questions click here.:

The Mutilated stamp is more common, but the genuine and all the others indicates that this bill was tagged and marked to be burned/recycled.
For some odd reason they sent it back.

As of know there is no special market for government tagged bills.

I would still say about $450.00 in the right auction or if it can get graded maybe much more but these stamped notes by govt are relatively new so the market is not there.

Great pictures by the way.

I went to Best Buy and tried to buy a video game but they wouldn't accept it because my bill was so old and had no water-mark XD Turns out it's a nice star note too! I should thank them :)

Here it is:

$100 bill
1950 Series B
Serial # F 00362264 *
Does not say "IN GOD WE TRUST" on the back

It is in pretty good condition (lays out flat and feels crisp) and has no tears and only a very small mark of black ink

I don't know if it's relevant but every similar bill I've found has been from New York or Chicago, never from Atlanta.

Collecting is simple, collect what you like and try to upgrade to higher grades.

Selling is difficult, eBay is great and after that private forum sales.

This one is common and in very-good it is at most $110 but they are hard to sell.

It is fine to spend but the advice about star notes is good if this was CF00281108* it would be $150 in low grade and $400 in fine.

Keep looking you may find a good one.

Sorry to say yours is not a repeater.

It is a 1950 series A twenty dollar star note. The serial number is D00894119* There is a number 4 in each inner corner.

There are no rips or tears but it is slightly creased horizontally and vertically. Thank you so much for anything you can figure out!

Sounds like someone try to pull out the strip or it was snagged after printing either way this does not sound like an error.

Still I would hold on to it and try to get a scan of the bill and place it online for others to judge.

WHAT I SHOULD BE PAYING ATTENTION TO

Higher quality notes, even one fold drops the value.

Star notes are good but later issues tend to be common.

Error notes and older notes are always good. I suggest you buy a currency book or pick up a currency magazine to get familiar with good notes because there are too many to list.

I just came across a 1963 $100 Federal Reserve Star note. The condition seems fair, no tears or cuts, however, there are several small holes (I'm guessing from staples) on it. The serial number is B01331660*. What can you tell me about it? Thanks!

You can try a coin shop but expect to get less than $15 per note.

The most common way is through eBay, but times are tough so they're not selling as fast.

hi, a few months ago i posted and asked u about a star note and i said i would keep my eye out for them bc my grandpa told me they are valuable. i now have 2 more they are both $100 bills which is why they are hard for me not to spend haha, please tell me if i should hang on to them- how much are they worth? first one is:

year 2003, number FL 01038899*, and under where it says series 2003 there is the letter A

second one: year 2003, number DF00360928*

i would say both are in decent condition like maybe A- or B+ if u were using scale of A+ to F.....let me know thanks so much!!

$100 bills

2003-A, number FL 01038899* about $150.00

2003, number DF00360928* about $115.00

As for keeping the 2003 is hard to sell for a profit and it will not go up in value for a long time.

The 2003-A is slightly better but in this market it is going down in value if your a good eBayer it would be good then sell if not then anything above face has to be good.

A coin shop will not give you anything for these they are looking for high grade notes that have been professionally graded.
That is why I always recommend eBay since you get set the retail price not the buyers price.

what do u use to determine their worths??
Everything from eBay, Heritage, books, magazines, and forum sales.
I use the average sellers value since that is what it would cost to replace, if you want to guess the buyers price take off about 15%.
