For the last ten years the NYC Department of Transportation has been having a public coin auction of the foreign coins people place in parking meters. I always miss it and now it has grown out of my price range at almost $4.00 a pound for 500 pounds, that's $2,000.00.
Jim Corliss a collector from Massachusetts won the bid last year and will probably win again this year. He found in the past an 1835 British Shilling once worth only $5.00. Most of the coins are Greek Drachmas, French Francs, Dominican Quarters, and Canadian Quarters. I'm pretty sure that every nation in the world is in those bags.
I found about a dozen foreign coins in my change this year. The free coins I find in my change has dwindled over time. Four years ago I would have found a hundred by this time. Oh well I guess next year I may have to bid on this auction.
Here is the news story as told by the CW 11 in New York City....
This is encouraging because I know the coins are out there circulating.

i found a mercury dime 1919 in my change. It looks to be in decent shape and upon further inspection i noticed the back and front don't align properly when you turn it over. Is this rare are pretty normal?
Wow, my mouth would water! This would be one of the ways I would get coins ha ha ha ha
Mercury dime 1919 with rotation error.
The dime is worth about $2.50 on its own.
With an rotation error of less then 15 degrees add $1.00.
From 15-45 degrees add $2.50.
Anything above 45 degrees should add at least $30.00.
Hi I would like to know if you know if this $1 bill I have has any value, I've had it for a few years now and saved it just because it looked cool, I have scanned the back and front of the bill here

Thanks
No extra value.
This comes from an uncut sheet. The government sells uncut sheets to collectors. In 2003 the uncut sheets start with K99000000B that is why I recognize your bill.
Someone took and cut the sheet to make a fake error. The bill is real the error is not. It is only worth $1 dollar.
Sho'nuff

1/2oz fine gold coin from South Africa dated 1981
It's a 1/2 Krugerrand worth about $440.00 mostly for the gold content.
Yours looks proof which doesn't add much but it can go for $500.00 if untouched by human hands.
Nice I always liked these coins.
Thanks Man.. I appreciate it!
