Generally I look over all my coins but recently I've been really eyeing them like a collector. I here of so many types of coins that at first I ignored them and just collected by year. Now though I'm checking for any little variance.
Towards the end of December I found this dime in my piggy-bank(not actually in the shape of a pig).Notice the arrows are pointing at some raised metal that forms a crack or lightning bolt shape.Upon closer inspection there are actually two cracks.
This is an authentic error.
It is called a die crack because the die used to press the coin cracked and transfered the results on this and probably thousands of others before a mint inspector noticed.
The error coin book classifies this as II-D-1 Die Crack (W), the W stand for "wear" meaning that is how the mistake was formed. This classification is for three or less cracks that don't span the coin.
This particular error is not rare so the value is only twice the face value with only these minor cracks.
Here's the stats...
Type: 10 Cents / II-D-1 Die Crack /2 "light" cracks(1 from rim to center)
Year: 1983-P
Mintage: 647,025,000
Metal: 75% copper 25% nickel(Outer Layers), 100% copper(Inner Core)
Value: EF-40 $0.50
Because the coin is in quite a nice state it may be worth $0.25 and double it for the die crack for a grand total of $0.50. Not much but the first error of this type I recognized and kept.

I found a funky dime today 1985 most of the surface is dark/black yet all the raised areas are clean and shiny. There is a raised circular mark on the front over the 'in god we trust' and on the back at the top of the torch and slightly to the left.

Shot.
Your coin got shot probably by a small gun or high powered pellet gun.
I've seen many shot coins that look lke this, no extra value since it is damaged.
Hi, would you be able to tell me what kind of damage this is on this1985 dime?

How about this one? I've seen it once before. Looks like it could have be damaged by machinery in the mint itself. Guessing by looks maybe by a vaccuum head.

It is damage but probably not from the mint, they do no use vacuum heads.
This is common damage from vending machines or counting machines probably at a bank. Even if this was damaged at the mint it would hold no extra value.

I have a 1980 d dime. The edges are smooth like a penny with line around it(no silver visible on edge). Also very little silver on front and back giving it a greenish brown color like dirty lake water. Can you give me your feedback on it and an approximate value? Thank you.
1980 d dime. The edges are smooth like a penny with line around it(no silver visible on edge). Also very little silver on front and back giving it a greenish brown color like dirty lake water.
Damaged normal dime, it sounds like the dime was left in water or buried in the dirt.
No extra value.
Thank you for your comments.
I found a 2002P dime with both sides missing the clad layer.
I believe it was circulated, as a penny.
It has no wear or scratches. The copper is dark.

I have a 1991 p Roosevelt dime missing clad on both sides as well as the edge. I have been searching only able to find clad missing on one side or the other, havent found one like mine yet. Any info on this would be most helpful thank you.
1991 p Roosevelt dime missing clad on both sides as well as the edge
If circulated and low grade about $150.00 most turn out to be damaged so few get certified.
I have a 1991p Roosevelt dime missing clad on both sides, as well as the edge. The weight of it is 2.3 grams. Any info would be great. Im not sure how this works so my email address is sully93071@msn.com if for some reason I dont see the post thank you.
991p Roosevelt dime missing clad on both sides, as well as the edge. The weight of it is 2.3 grams
This is not a Missing clad error because if one side was missing it would weigh 1.8 grams.
This could be a Improper Annealing error but only an expert can tell.
Thank you thats helps me out alot I am going to send it out to have it graded. Ill let you know how what I have when it comes back. Thanks again
I have a 1913 liberty head v nickel that is in fair condition my grandma had it saved in a box of coins i was wondering what its worth?
1913 liberty head v nickel that is in fair condition
If real about 3.8 million dollar but of course most are fake and only 5 have ever been found.
If you think yours is real then send it to PCGS to have it graded.

Sounds like the zinc core is showing through.
If damage no extra value.
If this is results of an Partial Missing Clad Layer error about $1.00 depending on eye appeal.
I found a 2002 dime that appears to be completely copper, i almost mistook it for a dime at work.. is it worth anything?

I have a 1963 A red print Five dollar bill. I was wondering what it could be worth if anything. Please let me know. We are sorta new at collecting coins and money, so I would appertiate your insight. Thank you

I have a 1967 dime that has raised edges and is almost as thick as two dimes. It is in pretty good condition. Is this worth anything?
Thanks for the help.
1967 dime that has raised edges and is almost as thick as two dimes. It is in pretty good condition.
Sounds like a Finned Rim error those in circulated condition average about $20.00 but a lot depends on eye appeal.
I HAVE A 2008 DIME THAT IS ABOUT 2/3 OF THE SIZE OF A REGULAR DIME AND IT SEEMS TO HAVE DIFFERENT MATERIAL ON THE CIRCUMFERENCE, MAYBE COPPER.IT IS ALSO THICKER THAN THE REGULAR DIME

Sound like someone spooned a dime.
Spooning is when the edge is smashed in order to make a ring.
This is damaged and has no extra value.
I just found a 2002-D dime it looks like a 2020 year and 2002 also looks like 2030. I have never seen nothing like it. its pretty worn. Going to a coin dealer today who works in error coin. its also got a D above the date and below the date almost on the rim.
2002-D dime it looks like a 2020 year and 2002 also looks like 2030. I have never seen nothing like it. its pretty worn.
Of course this type of error is not possible, sounds like an altered coin. No extra value.
That said it could be a Die Clash or Multiple Struck error but it needs to be seen to verify.
If you can post pictures online somewhere and link it here that may help.
Dime 1989-P the back has a 1cm lip coming out of the face of the coin where the coin should read "E Pluribus Unum" only the EPL and M are visible. The dime is also slightly off centered. Do you know how much it is worth?

Sounds like a Die Break or Cud but I would need a picture to confirm.
They average about $5.00 but a lot depends on eye appeal.
Hawaii Dala 1986 wondering if it has any value. Appreciate the help
Hawaii Dala 1986
The silver original is about $55.00 in high grade.

Could be a Die Break or Struck Through Grease error but without a clear picture I suspect a bubble formed between the clad layers.
No extra value unless you can prove Die Break. Still not much for that either.
Hi i have a quarter that actually has the date covered by what looks like a metal overflow error
I could not figure out how to post a picture
quarter that actually has the date covered by what looks like a metal overflow error
This is a Cud or Die Break error if the die is not visible they average $5.00 if circulated.
I found a 1997 p dime with a crack on the face, I was trying to find something similar and found out it's from a die that was broken. I was just wondering how much it would be and would it be worth getting it graded?
1997 p dime with a crack on the face
No extra value, die cracks and breaks are common.
Unless the entire face is shattered then no extra value.

About $50.00 the Slight Off-Center does not add value.
I found a dime with a large 8 engraved across the heads side, spanning from the hairline to jawline on Roosevelt's face. I am just curious if someone just did this for kicks or if there is a purpose behind it.
dime with a large 8 engraved across the heads side, spanning from the hairline to jawline on Roosevelt's face. I am just curious if someone just did this for kicks or if there is a purpose behind it.
Someone did it for fun or some other reason but I do not know.
It was not done for collecting reason so it has no extra value.
I have a 1954 Dime with a die break on the reverse, olive branch top flower. I would call it a CUD, but from what I've heard a CUD relates to the edge of the coins. This is just fills in the top leaves. AND I have 2 1964 D dimes that possible show a progression is a die crack. Remember the "cracked skull" pennies, this seems to be a cracked skull dime. One crack is a fainter and smaller version of the other. Can either of these solicit a premium?

--A Cud error must touch the rim so this is just a Die Break error and will not add value...or at most a dollar more in value.

Cud errors like generally $1.00 in circulated grade.

I have a 2011 D Dime with die Crack up the face is it worth anything it in pretty fair condiction
Have a 1967 no mint mark dime that appears to have a die break across the back of Roosevelt's head from center to back of head, and between the back of Roosevelt's head and the edge of the coin it kinda spiderwebs, with what appears to be a sideways mint mark just above the level of his ear. Just below the seeming mint mark are the numbers 62, very faint but able to be seen. 62 is also a tilted marking
Worth anything?
