Hello Do you know anything about errors in dollar
bills? I have a crisp one dollar bill 1981 that is stamped with an "E" on the
front and also on the back.
Man said...It was a logic response because I didn't know the E was reversed.
I need a picture to be more exact but it is possible, it is called Overprints on Back, it would also include a weak serial number along with the E.
In crisp uncirculated it would be worth $250.00.
Next...
Anonymous said...Oh I see things more clearly...
I have a picture but how can I show you a picture? The normal cut and paste didn't work. After looking at it closer I see that the E is not stamped on both sides. It has actually bled through to the back. The E is very dark on the back and it is reversed. There are also four 5's that have bled through...as they are reversed, also. The serial number is only visible on the front.
Man said...Anonymous' error sounds like a moderate-lighter version that happened on this ten dollar bill.
Sounds like you have an Offset Error for one dollar bills its about $75 to $100.
Here's a ten dollar example I used Imageshack to host the image and then the HTML tags a and href
Picture
An offset error in the 3rd printing of a bill can lead to the "letter seal" and the serial numbers to bleed through the back this is the most common of error notes but still valuable. In one case a 1981 5 dollar bill with a 1 dollar bleed through this of course is a rare and highly valuable.
As you see with the ten dollar error above the prices should be divided by about three for your 1 dollar, so Fine: $50.00 EF: $100.00 CU:$150.00 remember the market changes and see prices reflect the highest you may ever hope to get.
Sidenote: With places like Flickr, imageshack and photobucket or other blogs just drop a link to your photo by using this format

2 australian one dollar notes one has the queen as blonde the other has her as brunette
This does not sound like an error it sounds like damage, I found nothing about a variety or error.
Maybe you can get a scan of each and show them in Australian currency forum to get more opinions if you believe this is not bleaching damage.
they are both uncirculated in mint condition and u still think it could be damage??
both uncirculated in mint condition and u still think it could be damage??
If paper then the sun can do this but it could be an error that I'm not aware of that is why I suggest getting could scans before showing others on line.
Without a year or other details I can not give more information.

Ok this was an uncut sheet that someone bought from the government and then cut it to look like an error.
It has no extra value, because it was cut in an attempt at fraud.

I have a twenty dollar bill that is a 2004 series. it has all the markings on it as any other twenty dollar bill I matched it up to. There is barely a border on the top on the bill in the front and a lot of border on the bottom. On the back there is border around it but more on the bottom rather than the top. After the serial number there is not a letter its just a little star. How could I tell if its a fake or just a mess up and then the value as well. Thank you

Depending on the serial number it may have extra value because of the star.

I have a $10 bill from the 60s or 70s (It is currently at my parents house) that is printed with yellow ink on the back as if the printer ran out of blue and continued to print. The back is uniformly the same yellow with no sign of any green.
I have a 1985 100.00 bill, front and back are off center. It is in very good condition. has the number 12 in the four corners and A 78 in the bottom right.
$10 bill from the 60s or 70s (It is currently at my parents house) that is printed with yellow ink on the back as if the printer ran out of blue and continued to print. The back is uniformly the same yellow with no sign of any green.
This is sun damage.
The ink used to make money contains black and green without using yellow or blue.
So the only way for the ink to turn yellow is to be bleached by sunlight.
If blue it was bleached by chlorine.

I have a Series 1988 A five dollar bill that is misprinted. Front of bill is cut far right, and you can see the edge of another bill to the far left. Also, there is a number printed in all four corners towards the center (next to signatures, Washington, D.C., etc., and the number (4) overlaps the other text (like D.C. and the signature). The back appears to be fine. Does anyone know anything about this bill?

Hi, I came across a 2003 A series $100 dollar bill with some strange markings on it. First across the front there is a blue line going vertical from the top almost to the bottom of the bill running between the F and K of the serial number. Also there are 4 stampings on the back.
1.
WV
also blue could be same ink as the line?
2.
KC
M-0
in a partial circle open at the bottom darkblue/purple
3.
ND 3
black
4.
rda
all lower case but the "a" is half the text size. also black.
Not sure if the bill is worth anything or what any of these markings are from, any help would be nice. Thanks
One more thing there is also a small blue triangle on the bottom edge left side front of the bill.
2003 A series $100 dollar bill with some strange markings on it.
The first marking you describe is a Bank Strap stamp used in the U.S.
All the other back stamps are just currency stamps from other countries, they have no extra value.

I have a 1988 (one) dollar bill, the front is normal.
However the back, although complete, is printed all the way to the right. The entire backside design is shifted all the way to the right side edge of the cut; with no margin on the right and a large margin on the left.
The bill is in excellent shape.
Could you please tell me the approximate value?
Thanks in advance.

Hi...I have a $100 dollar bill without the third print; impressions of the seals and the serial numbers are on the bill but no ink is used. What is the estimated value? Thanks...
Added information, the $100 bill is an 1985 uncirculated bill.

Sounds like damage but it could be an Insufficient Ink error about $350.00 in uncirculated.
I have a few quick questions about the star notes. I work at a bank and see those star notes come and go daily, and I've read that some are worth more than face value? Are all star notes worth more than face value or is it just certain star notes?
Are all star notes worth more than face value or is it just certain star notes?
Most have a little value over face mostly just a few cents.
But certain types do have extra value that is because sometimes millions are printed and sometimes only a few thousand are printed.
A book or a magazine would help understand which are valuable but this site can help...

any issue 640,000 or less have real value.
I have a 2003A 100 dollar star note serial number FH 00043743*. I looked it up and it said less than 640,000 made. Do you have any idea what it is worht?
2003A 100 dollar FH00043743* about $125.00 in uncirculated.
About $250.00 in choice uncirculated.
I would add that with modern stars they often get high grades so even a good grade like choice-uncirculated is low valued.
Grades like superb gem choice uncirculated PPQ 68 are what collectors want.
I have a 1977 US 5 dollar bill that is only printed on one side. I know it's absolutely authentic since it was received at a bank in a package of new money. It is in mint condition. Any information on this would be appreciated! :) Thanks.

Missing Printing error it's about $650.00 in uncirculated.
I have a ten dollar bill that is printed on the front like it should be, but when turned over, you notice that it is printed with the back of a fifty dollar note. I'm not sure what the date reads on the bill since it is in the bank in another country. I don't remember the condition being super great though. It was in the condition that you'd get a bill from a cash register. Do you have any idea on how much this could be worth? Thanks :D

This kind of error is not possible. It is a fake with no extra value.

I have a 2006 $100 bill thar has the watermark and the magnetic strip on the opposite side. It's as if the bill was printed on upside down paper that already had the watermark and magnetic strip in it. I really can't send a picture because these are not visible features. If you look at the bill from the back, the watermark and magnetic strip are correct placement for the front of the bill.

It is possible but I suspect it is some sort of fake.
If real it's about $500.00.
I have a 1977 series $1 bill. The front has a dark imprint of the reverse on the obverse. You can clearly see the pyramid, the eagle, "one" written backwards through Washington's face, and the "Untied States Of America " right above "The United States Of America" on the front. It is very crisp, has no flaws or wrinkles. How much is it worth?
Hi, I have a 1996 $100 bill which is an error one. It lacks three elements on the front side: two serial numbers (up left and downright) and the imprint of the department of the treasury. Instead, those three are on the back side at the normal positions. I want to know how much it worth. Thanks!

Not possible the highest note printed is 99,200,000.
The government does note print complimentary notes. Instead after the 99200000 comes star notes begin with 00000001.
It is a missing overprint of some type maybe a picture would clarify.

Hi "Man" -
I have a 1988 $10 bill. The back is perfect - but the front has a line of ink missing from top of the bill to the bottom - the paper must have been slightly folded when it was printed. Any value - beyond $10?
Thanks.

I have a 1976 @ bill offset in front but correct in back. Front shows edge of next bill on right and no "framing" on left where it is cut off.
I also have a 1942 silver half dollar that is deeply rimmed front and back and lettering and date extend into this rim.
Thank you in advance for any help you might give us on them.
My post above should read a 1976 $2 bill. Sorry for the confusion.

The side that has the face the bill is printed or cut strange the top is cut off where the ink starts and the rt side is larger at rt bottom but gets smaller at top rt. the detail is also not like another one I have from same year. Never heard of this but this would be a Defective Paper Stock error It would be anywhere from $150 to $2,000.
This range is high but it can be difficult since I've not seen any at auction or certified.

Very minor Offset Printing error about $15.00 it happens when the wet ink from the front gets transferred to the back plate. Then for a few notes the back plate has two images until the ink is used up.
On the 1995 series if you look at the bill its a perfect line as if the corner of the paper was folded over the ink is as dark as the ink on the front and it is only on the corner no over print anywhere else on the bill.

Hello,
I have a one dollar bill, sreies 2006, serial # D63059376A that appears perfect on the front but the reverse is inverted and shifted top to bottom so that about one third of the bill is blank. You can see the bottom front image from the serial number on down fairly well. I suppose due to the blank paper. It's very crisp with slight evidence of a center fold. Can you give me an idea of its value. Thanks for your time.

Hi there,
I'm curious, I have a 2006 series one dollar bill that is in pretty good condition, no holes or tears but some fold lines. The serial # is H77888888C. Is there a collectible category for bills like this or is it just something cool?

This would be a Fancy Note in that shape maybe $5.00 at most.
Look up fancy notes or repeater dollars and you'll see the market, most desirable are crisp-uncirculated.
I have a crisp $100.00 Bill where the top serial numbers bleed through to the back, and also the "The United States Of America" Bleeds through to the back also, is this bill worth anything? There are very distinct embossings on the back, Have never seen another $ 100.00 look like this before.
