Hello Do you know anything about errors in dollar
bills? I have a crisp one dollar bill 1981 that is stamped with an "E" on the
front and also on the back.
Man said...It was a logic response because I didn't know the E was reversed.
I need a picture to be more exact but it is possible, it is called Overprints on Back, it would also include a weak serial number along with the E.
In crisp uncirculated it would be worth $250.00.

Anonymous said...Oh I see things more clearly...
I have a picture but how can I show you a picture? The normal cut and paste didn't work. After looking at it closer I see that the E is not stamped on both sides. It has actually bled through to the back. The E is very dark on the back and it is reversed. There are also four 5's that have bled through...as they are reversed, also. The serial number is only visible on the front.
Man said...Anonymous' error sounds like a moderate-lighter version that happened on this ten dollar bill.
Sounds like you have an Offset Error for one dollar bills its about $75 to $100.
Here's a ten dollar example I used Imageshack to host the image and then the HTML tags a and href
Picture
An offset error in the 3rd printing of a bill can lead to the "letter seal" and the serial numbers to bleed through the back this is the most common of error notes but still valuable. In one case a 1981 5 dollar bill with a 1 dollar bleed through this of course is a rare and highly valuable.
As you see with the ten dollar error above the prices should be divided by about three for your 1 dollar, so Fine: $50.00 EF: $100.00 CU:$150.00 remember the market changes and see prices reflect the highest you may ever hope to get.
Sidenote: With places like Flickr, imageshack and photobucket or other blogs just drop a link to your photo by using this format

This is a minor Faulty Alignment error about $35.00 in extra fine.

dollar bill with a star
Depends on year and serial number.
I have a 1996 100 dollar bill. The 100 dollar bill has a picture of Franklin in the middle and a watermark of Ben Franklin on the right. However the security thread does not say " 100 Dollar" but instead it has a security thread of a "USA FIVE"
I have a 1977 series A one dollar bill that is yellow, not green on the back. The front is normal. The bill is a bit worn. It appears the printer ran out of green ink. any idea?

You have a counterfeit note. The proper thing to do is report it to the police and you'll lose the $100.
These are note really collectible since they are so common.
Someone took a real $5 bill and bleached it and copied the $100 note on top, this will allow it to pass the "pen test" that bank tellers use.
Pass it on would be wrong and if the teller reports you you'll be in bigger trouble but your losing out on $100 so that is your decision.
There is no chance this is an error.
1977 series A one dollar bill that is yellow, not green on the back. The front is normal. The bill is a bit worn. It appears the printer ran out of green ink.
Yellowing is sign of a sun damaged note. In most Insufficient Inking Errors the faded ink is still green or blackish.
The first page in the error guide tells that yellowing is always a sign of alteration.
Unfortunately this one has no value above face. I've some yellowing that is real but these are old notes from the 1800's nothing modern.
I have a 1990 10$ bill s/n b16590795d it has bleed through of the top serial number, and the first letter in the bottom number, circulated condition.
I have a 2006 1$ bill s/n b22491280g that has massive bleeding around the black ink, on the banner, the 1$s in the top corners, along the top and bottom text, almost uncirculated condition. this bill also appears to be slightly longer than any of the same year and mint I compared it to, about 20.

Minor error about $10.00 depending on eye appeal.
i have a 1981 1 dollar bill that has the backside of the dollar showing through the frontside. in the 70s and 80s my uncle worked for a bank and the sheet cutter called him over and showed him a sheet of one dollar bills that had 3 bills with this mistake so he took one of them. this bill has only been touched by my uncle and the sheet cutter. here is the link

Great story too bad it wasn't the whole uncut sheet. Also great pictures.
This is a 100% Offset Printing it's about $300.00 ungraded but it may be worth grading because at higher values of course it will be a lot more.
i have a 2006 us $1 bill with it's top margin
smaller than the bottom on the front. any worth there?
I have a 2 dollar bill printed in all red ink what is this worth???

No this is normal, if you see a piece of another bill then it has extra value.
2 dollar bill printed in all red ink
Never heard of this it's a fake.
If you mean the serial number and seals are red then it is an older bill worth about $10.00 on average.
I have a $10 1988 bill, which I found in a brick straight from the FED when I worked at a bank. I always wondered what it was worth.
The bill folded over the next bill in the seq (exp L114XXX, L115XXX, etc). When the bills were cut the middle of the next bill and a portion of another bill are attached to the main bill. You can see a portion of the serial number on the second bill. There is a shadow of ink transfer from the second bill to the first bill.
Many Thanks.

This is very difficult to imagine.
But it sounds like a Printed Fold Error I'm guessing without seeing it's about $650.00. You need to have someone look at it to see what error(s) exist.
Since it is so Crisp grading it may be a good investment because it can easily be worth $1,000.00 if the fold is extreme.
Thank you for the feedback on the "Fold Error". I will see if I can get some pictures made.
Happy New Year.
Sorry for the delay in reposting the image. A mini vacation got in the way. Here is the best image of the the 1987 $10 bill. If the image lets you enlarge you can see the ink tranfer of the serial number and seal from the second bill to the first in the upper right part of the bill.

I just saw that I posted my links for my silver certificate in the above post, sorry that was unintentional. I had planned on making a seperate posting. It looks like there was a misalignment during its' printing to the right about 2 or 3 cm. The Treasure's sig is covered a bit by the border, etc.

Yes I see the ink transfer(which is common in cutting errors and means it's genuine) but that is nothing compared to the spectacular cutting error I must adjust my value and put this 1988-A $10 bill at $2,500.00 ungraded. This needs to be graded because the value may double.

Yes 1925-E are commonly found with shifts and this is about $15.00.
Incredible Cutting Error and great pictures.
Oops I meant 1935-E not 1925-E.
Thank you for your time and effort looking at these for me. It is amazing what accumilates over time.

I was wondering how much a 2003 A $2 bill would be worth that has the seals and the serial numbers slanted. The bill is crisp and uncirculated. Here is a link to the picture. http://i383.photobucket.com/albums/oo272/kdaddy99/6a52_1.jpg

It's a minor Misaligned Overprint Error about $45.00.
My daughter found a series 2004 A, $20.00 bill with the gold metallic ink from the 20 on the bottom right smudged upward all the way to the top in an inch wide path. It really shows on the black ink it overlaps. The shimmer is beautiful! It does have ridges on the collar, a proper watermark & strip.

This is an Ink Smear Error but I've never heard or seen on with the hologram affected.
Average errors are $50.00 this one can be so unique that it is hard to pinpoint value. Black ink smears are common and hold little value if not perfect.
You may one several opinions from dealers or post online pictures for forums or others to see.

one dollar bill thats missing the letter symbol on the left and its over by the tresury symbol on the right looks to be upsidedown and is greenish colored
It should not be green if this is a genuine dropped block error. It needs to verified in person I suspect a fake but if real it's about $250.00.

$20 bills that i recieved one with the year 1981 and the other 1988 and they both do not have watermarks
Older bills did not have a watermark, they were only on bills from 1996 and later.
On average crisp bills are about $30.00 depending on serial number.

I see the marker test and hopefully it will fade as that and the folds lowers the value.
This is an Offset Printing Error 100% it's about $125.00.
Great pictures.
Yeah..I about crapped myself when the teller ran that marker across it and luckily it is steadily fading. What would be a good place to sell it?
Thanks again.
What would be a good place to sell it?
Ungraded eBay, if you decide to grade and verify the error you may try Heritage or again eBay(it's a collectors first choice) or maybe selling privately in a coin/currency forum.
I have one of the $100 bills printed around 1996-97 with the watermark and security thread reversed, due to improper notching of the paper by Crane Company. What might this be worth today?
$100 bills printed around 1996-97 with the watermark and security thread reversed, due to improper notching of the paper by Crane Company.
This still not a well studied error and as far as I know it's value is unlisted.
But if we go by wrong stock errors if grading CU it might start at $200. Until more are found and graded it will be hard to correctly say, sorry.

Hi,
today I found a 2006 1 dollar bill that has two district seals (the letter representing the bank it was printed at). One is where it is supposed to be and the other is almost upside down and partailly overlapping the treasury seal. The bill is in ok condition. Do you know how much it is worth?

This would be a Multiple Printing error but the kind you describe has always been found to be fakes. It's his highly unlikely to be real because the way that bills are printed.
You'd need to have it verified by an expert.
If real it would be upwards of $1,500.00.
Careful.
Where can I find an expert?
Where can I find an expert?
First you can pay about $50 to PCGS or any grading company to have it graded and verified but if fake you will not be refunded.
You can post good scans online and show it around different forums with enough input you can get an informed decision.
Finally try a local coin club or coin dealer. Go to more than one in your area and ask for an opinion.
I'm very skeptical so I'd try the free options first.
i have a one dollar bill with a ink transfer of washington on back. the bill has never been circulated and i have the two bills before it and the one after it but only one has the image on back. how much would this be worth.

It's about $50.00 for the collection although the bills not affected are usually ignored still it's nice to have.
I have a $10 dollar bill series 1981 serial number D47824428A that has the reverse of the back printed clearly on the right side of the front starting at the first 'L' in dollar on the bottom and at the "o" in note at the top. Does it have any extra value? Thank you for your time.
The previous $10 dollar bill is crisp and was received in a bank packet for a store in the early 80s. Again, thank you for your time.

Sounds like a Partial Offset Error it's about $25.00.
The previous $10 dollar bill is crisp
It would bring up the value to $35 - $40.

Hello,
I have a 50 dollar bill that only has a partial serial number on the top right( One letter, two numbers) and the complete serial number on the bottom left. I also have in sequence 1976 2$ bills with an E missing in treasury.
I worked in a bank and they sent them out and then recalled them. We bought the remaining 60 bills.
Any idea what these are worth.
Thank you in advance.
Thank you
50 dollar bill that only has a partial serial number on the top right
About $200.00
in sequence 1976 2$ bills with an E missing in treasury.
If you mean missing in the treasury seal it's about $75.00 each.
If you mean missing in the word treasury then $5.00 each.
Both sound like Obstructed Printing errors.
I have a 1985 $10 bill with no ink on the back. I can see the embossing from the press though. The bill is somewhat worn. How much is it worth?
1985 $10 bill with no ink on the back. I can see the embossing from the press though. The bill is somewhat worn.
Sounds like a fake made by wearing out on side.
That said I have seen a few from 1985 and it's about $60.00.
I have a 1$ bill of the 1974 series that is triple stamped on the back. It has washington on the front and back as well as the back printed twice. Any info or value information? Thx.
1$ bill of the 1974 series that is triple stamped on the back.
About $1,000.00 if a true triple impression but there is a error causing the roller to skip and this type is $100.00 you'll need a currency expert to look it over.

1999 100 dollar bill with seal missing on the right side.
About $150.00
i got a 1977 100 dollar bill is it worth anything did they have a security strip back then and what if the print on the back doesnt line up with the front?
1977 100 dollar bill
Just $100.00 assuming fine and a non-star serial number.
did they have a security strip back then
No the security strip was not used until the 1990 series.
what if the print on the back doesnt line up with the front?
This is common and adds no extra value.
I have a series 1977 One dollar bill that has "experimental printing-Not intended for Public Use" on the back side. Does this have any value more than $1?
I have a 1996 $100 bill that I got from the bank (Im a teller and found it while looking at watermarks for counterfeits) and the watermark is upside down and on the wrong side and the security strip is upside down and on the wrong side. It's circulated. Any premium?
I have a 100 dollar bill 2001 with no stamp. What is the value of it?
1977 One dollar bill that has "experimental printing-Not intended for Public Use" on the back side. Does this have any value more than $1?
As far as I know the stamp the government uses is Red and on the front.
If yours is green and on the reverse at the bottom it may be something an artist did back in the 1970s(hippies?).
That said only the BEP would know for sure maybe email them with a scan of note to help.
1996 $100 bill that I got from the bank (Im a teller and found it while looking at watermarks for counterfeits) and the watermark is upside down and on the wrong side and the security strip is upside down and on the wrong side. It's circulated.
These security errors are new obviously the blank paper was fed upside down before printing.
Just a guess since I've yet to see a sell or any talk about this on the forums but it would start at twice face value about $200.00 but very few buyer these days.
100 dollar bill 2001 with no stamp
Missing Overprint is about $500.00 less if only the stamp is missing and not the serial numbers.
Hello, I have 2 2006 1 dollar bills, e82121192b and e82121196b, they appear to be an offset error. It appears to be quite dark, and are in UNC condition, what would be the approx value. Here is a link http://davidhedrick.net/bill.JPG
I have far more knowledge of coin errors and varieties. Thank you
Dave
2006 1 dollar bills, e82121192b and e82121196b, they appear to be an offset error. It appears to be quite dark, and are in UNC condition,
These are about $120.00 each.
That said it seems a bit odd. I'd expect them to be darker and less checkered so I would have someone look at these in hand to make they're not fake.
If graded and verified the value may go up.
My boyfriend has a 1943 $100 with what looks like Franklin's left eye is missing the pupil, it's in pretty good condition and just curious to know what it's worth. Also you can see the print of the back on the front side. Here are the pictures of the bill. If you could email and let me know I'd appreciate it! Thanks ************@gmail.com

1943 $100 with what looks like Franklin's left eye is missing the pupil, it's in pretty good condition and just curious to know what it's worth. Also you can see the print of the back on the front side.
It's a 1934 and the odd pupil is due to the fold in the note, no extra value. Also slight variations are put on notes to stop counterfeiters.
The Offset Printing that can be seen from the back is very minor and does not add to the value.
It's about $250.00.
One thing that may be a factor is the note is a 1934 Mule indicated by the back number of 115 and the lowest recorded was L05676359A. That bill is has a lower serial number and for some collectors it may add extra value, not much.
I have 100 dollar bill 1969 with large 40% the back of the bill overprint. Overprint consists the image of the front side of the next bill. What would be the valley off it?

I have a series 1996 100 dollar bill and the watermark on the right looks like the eyes are closed know anything about why that would be?
1996 100 dollar bill and the watermark on the right looks like the eyes are closed
It's just a smudge when adding the watermark or some kind of uneven paper when making the bill but either way it holds no extra value.
I have 30 1977 one dollar bills in sequence that appear to be uncirculated. images on the front and back are significantly offset from each other and there is a thumb print underneath the word one on the backside.
1977 one dollar bills in sequence that appear to be uncirculated. images on the front and back are significantly offset from each other and there is a thumb print underneath the word one on the backside.
Offset is normal and the thumbprint is damage.
They're about $1.50 each.
I have a 1934 $20 bill. Is it worth more than its face value?
1934 $20 bill
There are so many varieties without a serial number and back number I can only give a value of $25.00 but there are more valuable varieties.

This looks like a Major Ink Smear Error over 40% it's about $150.00 maybe more if t can grade higher than crisp-uncirculated.
I found a 2001 5 dollar bill that has blur ink

About $125.00 in extra-fine it is an Offset Printing quite a few were found on 1977 $20 bills. It happened when the front impression was transferred to the back when the ink was not dry.
1999 1 dollar bill serial # B17922831E has some offset printing on the front, but the back of the bill is as it should be. Bill has a crease down the middle but otherwise its crisp.

Good picture.
This is a uni-color Misaligned Overprint error. It is about $100.00.
I have 1974 100.00 bill (circulated but pretty crisp) that the edge of the right side has been cut really close to the green, on the front you can tell, on the back it looks normal. Is this bill worth anything and will it in years to come.
1974 100.00 bill (circulated but pretty crisp) that the edge of the right side has been cut really close to the green, on the front you can tell,
The off-center is not worth anything above face unless you can see part of a second bill. In some cases it takes away the value.
Although 1974 had a shorter run it still is very common it will take another 30 years before any significant increase in value.
If you can afford to keep it do so as the market for slight errors can change fast.
If not then no big loss if you use it.
I HAVE A BRAND NEW 1995 5 DOLLAR BILL THAT IS MISSING SERIAL NUMBER AND RESERVE SEAL AND DISTRICT NUMBER. THIS WAS AN EXTRA BILL IN A PACK OF NEW 5'S. WHAT WOULD SOMTHING LIKE THIS BE WORTH THAKS.

This is a Missing Overprint error it's about $300.00 in that condition, possibly a little more.
I have a 1999 series A dollar bill that has a few errors. The print seems fine with the exception of the left side, the "Fed. Res. Circle, with the A". It is on top of the bottom serial number. Also upon closer look where they place the
"4 numbers's" on the inside of the bill my number is 1 (diagonaled inside of the dollar of the "Dollar numbers in the corner") those numbers are lower, about half of the dollar bill on both sides, and the bottom left is in the border, and at the bottom right the bottom of the # is slightly lower than the border.
What I found odd was, everything seemed fine on the right, but the inside #1's were really off.
Oh and its in pretty good condition.

I have a 1977 A 1 dollar bill given to me by my father...it looks like the back is printed in yellow ink. There is nothing else out of the ordinary, the back is identical to any other dollar besides the coloration. The front side shows no stains or degradation that would seem to indicate chemical bleaching or alteration. Otherwise the bill appears normal, crisp and well cared for with a single fold in the center.
Any idea how this happened, and what its value might be? I can post an image if needed. Thanks very much!

Sunlight.
Leave an bill in strong light it will bleach in this way.
Yellowish remainder is the number one sign of an altered note.
Hello:
I have a crisp mint condition 1985 US ten dollar bill with a vertical 1/32nd of an inch wide fold down the center. When you hold the two ends and pull the bill apart there is a 1/32nd of an inch blank space on the front and back. In addition the bill is printed off center meaning that it has a huge blank space along the bottom and side and the bill is printed in the upper corner. I would love to know its approximate value or sources to get it appraised. Thank you...

Hi,
What would a $1 1934 series star note be worth with an error offset on the backside? Note the partial serial no. on the top right back side.

Nice.
That is actually the sheet number peaking through on top.
A Faulty Alignment on a Silver Certificate Star Note is what you have.
About $1,500.00 only because I can't verify if it is crisp-uncirculated. This is definitely worth grading for maximum value.
Wow, that's amazing! Thank you for the info. I have had this 1934 $1 star note for years but never thought much about it. I would guess it to be Choice AU grade.
...AU grade
May bring it anywhere from $700 to $1,400.
Choice is only a designation for Uncirculated grades.
Hello-
I have a crisp 1999 20 dollar bill that has the Federal Reserve seal imprinted over Jackson's face, the top serial number is also printed on his face, the bottom serial number is half on the right side and the other half on the left side, and the Department of Treasury seal is also partially on the right and left side. Is this common and what would this be worth? I was originally told around $40, sight unseen.

This is a Misaligned Overprint if I understand correctly this one has the Serial number cut in half going over the edge and the same on the other side.
If so this is about $2,500.00.
The Error book has a 1999 $20 with the serial numbers between BF-A, it is described as unique.
i got a 1969 one dollar bill and on the back it gots a big ink bleed or something.. idk it is the same color as the N but it is covering it up! whats the worth??

Sounds like a minor Ink Smear error about $10.00 or less in fine.
If it covers more than 25% of the back it is worth more.

Sounds like a Missing Overprint error involving the green portion, it's about $150.00.
I don’t know the first thing about money but I was wondering if this one dollar worth anything? The front is misaligned/shifted and or cut wrong, the Federal Reserve District Numbers and the Serial Numbers seems to be off too unless it looks that way because of the misalignment. The bottom left “3” is over the signature. The back of the dollar is slightly tilted off center. Thank you for your time!

This is sun-bleach damage. The yellowing is only possible when exposed to some type of bleaching. No extra value.
How much would a misprinted dollar (stamps are on back instead of front) from 1969 be worth? The serial # is L38831276D)? It has never been in circulation, so the condition is pristine.
Thanks!

Hi there,
$10 bill (Series 1981 A, Serial # E 80739689 A) w/an ink smear from the bottom center up towards the middle of the picture. Wrinkled/was in circulation until I found it around 1982 or 83. Kept flat ever since - was it worth it? :)

Hello, I have a 1999 $100 bill that does not have the green seal over the 100 on the right side of the bill. The bank first thought it was counterfeit but then said it was a genuine $100 bill and gave it back with paperwork from the bank stating that it is in fact genuine. Would this be worth anything?
Thank you,

There is also a green streek that looks like smoke coming from the top of the tree on the left side of the back. Note: There are some other shifting type errors in the top and bottom borders. Please respond with with any information as to the value, discription and grading. Thank you.

Hello, I have a $1 bill series 2003, serial number K99937732 B which is severely misaligned. Washington's face is split in half and appears on both edges of the dollar. What would be the white edges on a regular dollar appear in the middle of this one. If you wrap the dollar around, Washington's face is reunited with its' other half. The dollar bill appears to have some burnt areas, but the majority is intact. I don't know how to post pictures on this website, could I possibly send them to you via email? I'm interested in knowing the price and history. Thank you.

This was taken from an uncut sheet.
Uncut sheets are sold by the government for collectors they are recognized by having serial numbers of 96000000 or higher.
Your bill was either damaged and cut or it was purposely cut to look like and error, it has no extra value due to the fraud involved.
I have a series 2006 5 dollar bill, the ink on the back is smudged with what appears to be the same reddish-purple used in the printing. Hello, I have a 1969 B dollar bill and on the back of it believe it is an ink transfer but there are theses deep dark green splotches they looks like droplets, I know that it is not a foreign contaminate because the way the the ink looks and blends in with out being visible from the other side. It is crisp with three small creases and a quarter of a millimeter rip at the top of the bill.lastly the way that the bill was cut it is off on one side is bigger on the other. thank you for taking time out of you're schedule.

About $200.00 for this Missing Overprint error.
Also if you can keep the bill that came before and after it may bring extra value under certain auctions.
