Finally I Got A Star

Do you have an star note and want to know its value? Leave a comment/question and I will do my best to find out the price and history for you.

While I'm happy so many people are finding star notes it has been a while since I got one. Mostly since I hardly use cash anymore.

Then on September 25 I got this bill in my change. It is a 2003A F-Atlanta series star note.

The back is normal as you can tell.

The star note is a replacement note used by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing when a defect or error is found on the regular run of notes. There is no replacement of specific serial number instead they replace blocks of notes with the newest star notes. Since less then 1% of notes need replacement star notes are scarce.

Still they are not rare since they are printed by the hundred thousand or million. They are printed in runs of a specific amount and the lower the run the more it is worth to collectors.
  • Less than 320,000 printed is lowest.
  • Exactly 320,000 printed is very-low.
  • Between 320,000 and 640,000 is low.
  • Exactly 640,000 is medium.
  • More than 640,000 is high and normal.

Type/Country: 1 Dollar/United States
Year: 2003A
Printings: 3,200,000
Run: 4th from F09600001* - F12800000*
Value: $2.50 in VF

It has plenty of folds and is probably worth less then listed, but that is true with most collectibles.

Do you have currency and want to know its value? Leave a comment/question and I will do my best to find out the price and history for you.

1663 dollars worth, for Comments/Questions click here.:

1950 $100 G00508533* Series D. Chicago, back number 137.

It has NO pen marks, but three creases, one in the middle and two spaced equally apart to the either side. It also has a corner that stands up, as though it was folded at one time, but there are no creases or anything too noticable.

No "In God We Trust" and says "This note is legal tender for all debts, public and private, and is redeemable in lawful money at the United States treasury, or at any Federal Reserve bank."

I got it at the restaurant where I met my fiance, and now we're keeping it to pass along to our son. Just wondering if we have something neat.

Hi, I was wanting to know what you think these might be worth. I found the error first, which no one knew anything about. Then I started checking all my money and found the $100 star note. I had never seen a $100 star note before so I kind of thought it was rare, but I found this article. Though I'd ask anyway.

1996 $100 AB27692549A error
1996 $100 AB16042559*

1996 $100 AB27692549A error about $125.00 for this Minor Obstructed Printing error ot is nice though and maybe in the right auction it may fetch more.

1996 $100 AB16042559* about $105.00 this one is common even for a star note.

i have a possible error note i was wondering if you could tell me any info.its an everyday $1 but both suffix letters to the right of the serial numbers. are placed well to the far right of the last number in the serial number.a much much greater space between them then ive ever seen and ive looked through alot of them to know.would that be considered an error or shift error??

Man said...

$1 but both suffix letters to the right of the serial numbers. are placed well to the far right of the last number in the serial number

Slight shifts in the last letters position is normal, the only way this can be an error is if you had the consecutive serial numbers before and after this bill and they were not as far apart.

But I suspect this run of notes all had the same shift so it would be normal.

Were it unique it would be about anywhere from $15-$250 because of lack of market for this.

Keep it aside for now maybe others will report or grade new finds in the future.

Depends on serial number and year but average is $500.00. (If you mean full 32 subject sheet.)
No need to have them graded since they should be perfect.

Thought I might just check on these bills. I work in a position that I can look through a lot of bills and found some interesting ones so far.

2009 L 66666366 F

Both are crisp, however have folds. I mostly collect them for myself, i don't intend to sell them. Any idea of worth?

For more common notes fine is acceptable, fine being having a tear or two, many folds and wrinkles.

Any ideas? Looks like it had a production of only 160,000 to me. Could be reading it wrong though!

can you still tell me what star bills are worth...
--It depends on serial number, year, and denomination. Some are so common they hold little extra value.

tell me where to find out?
--Currently there are no good sites that give exact values.
Use this site to see if you have a rare or common note from there you either estimate value at $50-$100 above face.
Or list the rare ones here and I'll tell you the current values.

uncirculated sequential $20. From GE02010901* thru GE02010925*

About $50.00 each, although these are so common that they often sell for less on eBay if ungraded.

Having the 02010 as the first number may add value as these can also be considered as "birthday notes". If you were to sell try finding dealers who deal in fancy notes instead of just regular star note dealers.

About $115.00 it may be too common to sell since most dealers will take 20% or more from the value. Dealers would never by this unless perfect.
