2004-P Keelboat Nickel

Have a nickel and want to know its value? Leave a comment/question

No worries I have uncirculated examples that I got back in 2004 but since this recent reminded me that it was never featured I might as well do it now.

The second in the four part Westward Journey series, if you don not include the 2006 new Jefferson nickel.

The reverse has the Captain Lewis designed Keelboat used for most of Louisiana Purchase river treks. Al Maletsky designed this to reflect the boat on the river and how the men worked during Lewis and Clark's expedition. Pushing the boat away from rocks was very important.

The obverse has the older Jefferson bust.

Here's the stats for these coins...
Type/Country: Keelboat - 5 Cents / United States
Year: 2004-P
 Metal: 75% copper 25% nickel
Mintage: 366,720,000
Value: $0.05 at F-12

Sidenote: Let me see if I can make this a daily blog.

Do you have a five cent coin and want to know its value? Leave a comment/question and I will do my best to find out the price and history for you.

20 dollars worth, for Comments/Questions click here.:

If say I had 14 of these Keelboat 2004 P nickels would you say it'd be worth trying to sell them? And if so in a bunch or individually?

They have no extra value so selling them as a group is fine.

I have a D 2004 keel boat lewis and clark nickel. It's weight is 4.5 grams and it is magnetic "it sticks to a magnet". Since every where I read said it's 75% copper and 25% nickel I thought it was weird. I never seen any USA coin stick to a magnet before. The metal looks different then other coins of that year. Thank you

Hi.
I wanted to introduce myself and my new company. I am an American Master and Listed Artist. I am also a former gifted child that has taken an interest in the Forensics of coins. At the age of eleven I discovered there existed peculiarities surrounding coins and spent three plus decades examining world coins. Unfortunately my findings are accurate and what it means is that the U S. Mint has been striking coins outside of the strictures and policies as defined by the coinage act. What has perplexed me is that the average consumer does not see what comes easy to me. Like in the nickel above, it is easy for me to see that this is fashioned in a former planchet and denomination. InFACT Forensics, examines and certifies our findings within a summary and certification of findings that is exhaustive. 401-442-8126

I have some interesting coins I was wondering if you would be interesting in seeing. They are 1996 Wide AM pennies however when viewed under magnifying glass you can see it's actually a 1999 wide AM double die. I also have a few others that are in sequence with the exact marks showing the rolling of the 9 to a 6.
