Spanish euro cents are common and there are plenty of tourism between are countries so they are easy to find.

Newer coin but kind of dull since it is copper plated and if used a lot it begins to lose the luster.

2005 Spain 1 Euro Cent

A year since my last Spanish coin find and of course this one is common. People still think of Euro coins as on kind but they are issued from many countries and sometimes have different collector values.

Unfortunately this one is so common that it has only face value. The front has the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela and the Spanish word for Spain which is España.

2000 Spain 5 Euro Cent

First Spanish coin in about three years. Granted it is a euro which kind of dull but at least it is not another British penny. Coins from Spain were once easier to find in your change but ever since they converted to euros it has been tougher for some unknown reason.

Spanish King Juan Carlos will abdicate the throne but that will not change the coinage as far as I can tell. While that is big news the monarchy is less powerful than it use to be back in the reale coinage days. They probably will make a commemorative piece but doubt it will circulate.

Found this one in my change when I first started blogging back in 2005. It is making a reappearance not just for fun but to show the difference between the map changes. The first major change on Euro coins was the map that is on every circulating Euro coin.

Above is the old map which had each Eurozone country distinct and in an exploded-view. For those not familiar with CAD software exploded-view is when something that is connected normally and then separated into its components.

After more countries joined the Eurozone they redesigned the front to include a relief map. Relief maps show land details and not borders. Below is a side by side comparison.

The relief map in my opinion looks better and takes up less space. Is it possible the map will change again? Probably as the Euro is ultimately trying to become a globally coin.

Almost a year since my last Spanish euro find. The second least common of the Spanish 2 euro cents only the 2002 had a lower mintage. Once again like most euros they are still very common.

The last of a trio of Euro coins I found and it is as common as most Euros. These 2 cent Euros are quite small and I do not see them as often.

Not much else special about this coins so let us go to the pictures.

 

I used an LED (light-emitting diode) to show off the coin. It was not good, I thought fluorescent lighting was bad but LED technology has not reached the natural light levels that incandescent bulbs have today. The sun is still the best for photographing, at least for me.

So I had to look up if Spain actually was still in the World Cup since I have not followed any Soccer since the United States lost. Turns out they are in the finals. Granted it was just a coincident that I found this coin but I am willing to pander.

It has been 5 years, almost to the day, since I last found this exact coin.

Spanish 10 Euro Cent

What can I say about the Euro that hasn't been said before? The exchange rate is about 13 U.S. cents for every 10 Euro Cents. They still pop up in my change, although this one was prompted out of register when I caught a glimpse of it. Cashiers are still nice when they're not too busy.

The new coin books are coming out and are tax deductible if used in part of your coin business. Still I can't afford them now and I don't have the time to bargain shop. I will need them seeing how most 2008 Euros are not listed although now some good online sites provide mintage information.

I'll keep it short and leave with the pictures and statistics on my recent find.

I'm in line waiting to pay for a highly overpriced textbook when the young nice and giggly non-American student in front of me wants to pay with exact change. That is nice and all but she didn't understand why her two nickels where rejected by the cashier. Kindly everyone points out that those are Euros and not nickels, she asks "What's the difference?" Not knowing how to explain the entire currency system I traded a dime for the Euros and she paid the dime forward and hurray the line moved on.

I assumed the woman was Eastern European by old-fashioned visual and audio cues but wouldn't they still know of Euros? Plus who has Euros in their purse and still not know they aren't nickels. She responded in English very well.

You might think it was a scam to pass off funny foreign money as U.S. but 40 Euro cents is about 50 U.S. cents and she got rid of them for 10 cents. She did not stay long enough to try to give her my change of 26 cents to attempt to cover the exchange rate. Could it be I offended? No because she was so happy when she left after also refusing her receipt.

Strange exchange. I'm usually good at explaining money value but this nervous exchange had thrown me off. Either way I got me some Euros for cheap.

I've found hundreds of foreign coins in my change from over 50 countries and dating as far back as the 1940s'. I've also occasionally bought foreign coins, low grade of course. From Eastern Numismatics Inc. I've bought world coins by the pound when they are on sale, I've also bought from eBay.

I bought the lot for $3.00 without shipping and I estimate the value at, the lowest grade, $3.10. There are 25 coins in total and only a few were repeats of what I had found before.

Most Euro coinage I get comes from friends and family who give them to me. Many of them are European or travel to Europe so often that the coins are no longer special to them. One kind family member recently gave me these 5 Euros...

The Euros pictured here are the 1 Euro cent, the 2 Euro cents, the 5 Euro cents and two 10 Euro cents. There are also a .20, .50, 1.00 & 2.00 Euro coin piece. Euro coins and banknotes(currency) came into circulation on January 1, 2002. There were 12 Euro countries now there are 15 but other places make Euro or Euro-looking coins.

Look at the reverse of the coin to find out their country of origin, the fronts are usually all the same.

The prices on Euros varies from country to country and year to year because after large mint productions in the early years. Later years were minted in smaller quantities making them more valuable. Other years are not yet released to the public making accidentally finding one rare for the moment.

Of the original 96 Euros I've found, or was given, 22 different types and many repeats. From Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands and Spain.
