2009 Coin Books

Do you have a penny and want to know how much it's worth? Leave a comment/question and I will do my best to find out the price and history for you.

Yes it's that time of year when I get new coin books and update all the prices in the post of this blog. Note I can't update values quoted in the comments but judging by the date of the comments you can figure out what the current value will be.

The first book I will review is the Krause 2009 Standard Catalog of World Coins 1901-2000 36th edition with DVD included. Ordered through Amazon for $37 this with the discount but added sales tax for NY.

Here is what the DVD looks like in the book.

The DVD has the following contents all in PDF format:
  • Smaller Catalog Files
  • How To Use This DVD
  • Marshall Islands
  • SCWC 1901-2000 Complete Book
The Smaller Catalog file is broken down to these, again in PDF formats:
  • SCWC 1901-2000_0001-0022
  • SCWC 1901-2000_Afghanistan-Chile
  • SCWC 1901-2000_China-German East Africa
  • SCWC 1901-2000_German States-Malta
  • SCWC 1901-2000_Martinique-Samoa
  • SCWC 1901-2000_San Marino-Zimbabwe
The book itself got slimmer with the deletion of Marshall Islands, it now tells you to go to the DVD for the values.

The first set of files are free to print and copy; for personal use of course.
The second set of files are heavily protected.

I put a copy on my older desktop but it is kind of slow compared to just picking up the book and reading. After a while of searching different coins I get values or info in 10 seconds by the book and 15 seconds by DVD.

As for 2009 United States book it is about the same. Few changes except for the added piece about the upcoming 2009 Lincoln penny change and the 2009 Quarters for the U.S. territories.

Mine was a hardcover-spiral bound which is more expensive but I treat the book rough. I sometimes enjoy the books more than the coins. Over then next few weeks I'll post some world coins I have and use the DVD to post information. Lets hope it's faster.

Do you have an United States coin and want to know how much it's worth? Leave a comment/question and I will do my best to find out the price and history for you.

22 dollars worth, for Comments/Questions click here.:

They would be about $7.00 each
so I would expect $500.00 to $900.00 for the pack if it still has the original band.

I founds a 1937 wheat penny in my change (I am in Canada) there is a raised "bleeding" from the left hand wheat that goes out to the edge of the coin, also headside the B in LIBERTY seems to be a bit larger than the rest of the letters. There is no mint marking under the date. Any ides? I googled for mint errors but I couldn't find anything. Thanks

I'm not sure what you mean by "bleeding". I assume you mean a die crack or retained cud.

Either error is caused by a broken die that leaves a raised are on the coin.

It's a minor error and would maybe bring the value up to $0.30.

I found a penny that has no date on it, however where the date should be there are 4 stars. The penny is made of a lightweight material (maybe tin or aluminum) it is significantly lighter than a normal penny. There seems to be some sort of markings on the penny that might help, it has a G or C, then the letter E, then money. Can you please tell me if this penny is worth anything or if there was a mess-up during minting?

This sounds like play money. Not real. No value.

If you suspect it is something different(maybe a foreign coin) then you need to post a picture on a free photo site and drop a link.

A blank planchet if it has an upraised rim on it is about $2.00 if full copper it's $3.

Are buffalo nickels worth very much what year would have the most value

buffalo nickels worth very much what year would have the most value

Not considering varieties or errors, 1913S, 1914D, 1915S, 1921S are $30 to $80 in good.

Others can range from $1.00 to $30.00 in good.

Good being a very low grade.

I have two, one-dollar bills serial numbers V88828130A and V88828131A both Series 1957 B, mint condition. Are these worth anything more than $1? Just curious since the serial numbers are just one off from each other and the condition looks uncirculated. Thanks!

About $3.50 each they are common and often found consecutively.

I have a 1858 silver penny with a flying eagle on it.It has one cent in small letters on the back with what looks like a wreath around it. Can you tell us if it is worth anything.

1858 silver penny with a flying eagle

Sounds like a silver-plated fake.
No extra value if still believe it is some type of error just find out the weight.

The plating is considered damage but it may still have a value of a few dollars.
