My Australian Coins

Do you have an Australian coin and want to know its value? Leave a comment/question and I will do my best to find out the price and history for you.

Let's celebrate Australia.

Here are some coins I got from my change over the years. I also received a few in coin lots that I bought. Most were given to me in my change here in NYC. The distance between New York, New York, United States and Perth, Australia:

11606 miles (18679 km) (10086 nautical miles)

Well coins do end up in strange places. Here are 7 out of 10 coins I found over the years.

1951 *penny (the coin is identical to the 1951 half penny - even though my coin does not have any mention of 'Half' anywhere on it) it has pl and kg letters on it and its in good condition with no dents or marks....what would thus coin be valued at if i were to sell it. It does not have the dot after penny.
--About $0.20 try eBay.

Also i have a 2001 australian penny
--No such coin, recheck or describe all the words and pictures.

Hi there, I have so many coins and some notes (old Hong Kong Dollars) from all over the world - I have an Australian $1 note that I have kept for probably 20 years or so now and I also have a 1972 round Australian 50 cent piece with Endeavour on one side and Elizabeth II on the other - can you tell me roughly the value you could email me at h2obarclub@yahoo.com. Thank you Tracy

Just a dollar and 50 cents, both are common.

Still wondering how those 1 cent pieces made it to America as they were made no longer legal tender in 1990 :D

That is the greatest part of collecting from change...anything is possible.

I found coins from the 1800's in my change.

I ran across a 1939 Australia One Penny today from a coin lot I was digging through. It has mint luster present, few small scratches and a ding to the rim. It has the KG initials on the obverse at top left and the MP mark on the reverse below the neck.
Edge is plain. Up to that point its normal...

However; its for sure not the typical bronze km36 type as its silver in tone. It also is not listed in my 2013 standard catalog under trial strikes and other misc off strikes (although there are cuni examples from years prior). The diameter is very close and interior rim design is like a typical km36 (which I have several frim the early 40s) - however this silver tone example appears to have one difference; a thin outer rim. The inner rim where it meets the interior rim design is a perfect match in comparison to a normal km36.

I have not had it tested to see if its copper nickel or silver - didn't want to damage it further if it ended up being something unique.

I hesitate to think its a copy of something since the quality of the strike is great, Perth quality, and I have not found any similar items it would have been made to look like (except for an actual '39 penny which would book for like 8$ US in this condition, ie. very unlikely to be copied.)?

Any help you could provide would be great. Thank you.

Chris

1939 Australia One Penny...not the typical bronze km36 type as its silver in tone.

Weight it with a 0.01 gram scale.

It is likely plated and then used in a pendant.
