Do you have a wheat cent and want to find out its value? Leave a comment and I will do my best to find out the price and history for you.

hi.i am curious to find out how much my wheat pennies might be worth. i have a 1916 wheat(no lettering) and also a 1958 wheat. thanks
Here's the stats for a 1916 cent...
Year: 1916
Mintage: 131,833,677
Metal: 95% copper 5% tin and zinc
Value: G-4 $0.30 (G=good with the lines in the wheat missing)
------- EF-40 $8.00 (EF=extremely fine with all details sharp all wheat lines visible)

Here's the stats for a 1958 cent...
Year: 1958
Mintage: 252,525,000
Metal: 95% copper 5% zinc
Value: VF-20 $0.10 (VF=very fine no worn spot on back, slight wear on cheeks in front)

Basically for all wheat cents if it's this bright and the stalks of the wheat are sharp with full lines those are higher grades and of course worth much more. Even the littlest scratch or cleaning the coin will devalue it to only a few cents.

Sorry it took a while for a response I was out.
Thanks for your visit.

The color, steel is gray/silver copper is red/brown.

But the standard test is that steel is magnetic and copper is not.

I have this 1916 d dime, and a friend called me and said it was worth quite a bit of money but gave me all these different figures, how much is it REALLY worth?

Man said...

1916 d dime about $1,000.00 in good.

Good is known as G-4 and is a very low grade, it has the date clear but the fine details are worn.

The grading scale goes from 1-70 where 70 = perfect.

So grading is a big deal but the bare minimum-ungraded is $1,000.

hi.. just going thru some change, i found appears to be a 56 nickel with wheat penny back. The nickel front is same size as penny, so all the lettering is cut around the edges. Looks perfectly cut though. same thickness as a standard penny. looks like 1/2 thickness back of penny and 1/3 thickness face of nickel. Is this possible error or what? Thanks

Fake, this error is not possible.

Hi my wheat penny is from 1951, but when i flip it over to the ONE CENT side its upside down, is this normal?

Man said...

wheat penny is from 1951, but when i flip it over to the ONE CENT side its upside down

All U.S. coins have Coin Alignment which means when the head is facing up and you turn the coin left or right the back will be upside down.

If yours is different then it has Medal Alignment and that adds value, average $20.00 for circulated.

1880 o silver morgan dollar i think the coin is in perfect condition

MS-70 (Perfect) has never been graded and MS-65 (high mint state) is the best I've seen.

At MS-65 it would be about $25,000.

Perfect MS-70 would be $500,000 or higher.

I suspect yours is MS-60 about $75.

1936 penny double date with two cuds on front, in DATE and in LIBERTY, also on back in CENT. Grade of coin is: FINE

Sounds like a 1936P-1DO-006 at about $5.00.

That said cuds can also create not true doubling but it adds a few dollars depending on cud size.

Either way around $5.00 but you would great pictures or an expert to tell what type of doubling you have.

Hi I have a 1916 wheat penny that is appears to be plated with a silver colored metal (zinc?) It is not in great condition- the silver color is scratched off on the surface of Lincoln's face and and the wheat stalks. Otherwise the detail is fine. I could not find any mention of plated pennies in 1916. Can you help? There does not appear to be a mint mark. Thanks.

Man said...

1916 wheat penny that is appears to be plated with a silver colored metal (zinc?) It is not in great condition-...

The U.S. did not do this.
It was plated by a private company for jewelry or unskilled collectors.

It is considered damage and has no extra value above $0.02 for the copper.
