1958 was the last year of wheat cent because 1959 introduced the Lincoln Memorial reverse for the 150th anniversary of President Abraham Lincoln's birth.
This coin is still among the easy wheat cents to find in your change and although there is one known double die obverse error that is very rare.
This is even more significant now because it is 2008 and next year is the 200th anniversary of Lincoln's birth so the Lincoln cent will once again be revamped.
Here are the facts from the usmint.gov website...
Here's the stats for the coin pictured...The themes for the reverse designs represent the four major aspects of Abraham Lincoln’s life, as outlined in Public Law 109-145.
- Lincoln's Birth in Kentucky (1809-1816)
- Formative Years in Indiana (1816-1830)
- Professional Life in Illinois (1830-1861)
- Presidency in Washington, DC (1861-1865)

I just turned up one of these minted in 1944. With the war connection, is it worth anything to a collector of coins, or collector of millitaria / war-related stuff?

This is a Blank Planchet Type II it's about $2.00 if Copper-Zinc and about $3.00 if it's Copper.
The only way to tell the difference is weighing it 3.11 grams is copper and 2.50 grams is Copper-Zinc.

Thats cool, but someone else said it was worth about $8.00
Depends on condition, I'm assume a very low grade of Good (G-4). Highest grade is 70.
If this is between very-fine-20 and extra-fine-40 then yes it is $8.00.

To be a No Shoulder Fold the I should point between the denticles.
I have a 1958 D Wheat penny in very good condition, but it's strange because it has a silver shine. Almost like chrome but it seems to be solid medal.- not painted. Is it worth anything? Is it rare?

Most likely a fake or a Die Clash error, either one has no extra value.
That said just take it to a local PCGS coin dealer and they will grade it for a fee.
First I would take excellent pictures and put them online for experts to see. Then try a few coin clubs or dealers in your area.
After all that if you still believe it is an error pay for PCGS grading services.

1957 Wheat Penny that has an extra stem on the left wheat stock on reverse.
Sounds like a Die Break error, since true doubling would affect the entire back.
Die breaks do not add value but you should take a clear image in case this is some other type of error.
