An Error Penny

Do you have an error penny and want to know its value? Leave a comment/question and I will do my best to find out the price and history for you.11a

On May 22 of this year I was searching through my change at the end of the day and found a 1956 wheat cent, which was ok they are worth about in that condition.

I left the coin on my desk because I was too busy to catalog my newest find. Then a few days later I noticed some crud on the coin then I looked closer and saw it was actually excess copper between the B and E in LIBERTY.
11
Immediately I recognized it was a "BIE" error and sure enough I got my error book out and there it was as clear as day.

Here's this coin stats...
II-F-4 BIE Die Variety (W) = a die break or crack between the B and the E.
Fairly common in the years 1955-1958 and value at $1.00 to $20.00.
I figure due to all the green spots and circulation wear that mine is closer to $1.00.

For a while BIE pennies became very popular and the BIE Guild was formed. Soon so many of these errors were found that the value went down and the collectors stopped tracking these coins. The BIE Guild dissolved and now unless the coin is proof or in excellent shape the premium for this error is low.

Here is a better picture of this type of error from LeeG(an expert collector) he also found a 1956 BIE but as you see in a higher grade.Do you have an error penny and want to know its value? Leave a comment/question and I will do my best to find out the price and history for you.

1459 dollars worth, for Comments/Questions click here.:

I have a 1962 no mint mark however, this specimen consist of a t that looks like a x it may very well be damage after the mint, but i cant imagine how the bottom part of the last t in the word trust can be cut and swung over creating the illusion of a x only the top of the x looks like a T in other words the T looks like the bottom part of an X with a line on top for the typical part of a normal T recap horizontal part is normal vertical part resembles bottom half of a X.

Any knowledge of this being an error or damage would be really awesome.

I was handed down a set of pennies of each year and mint from 1901-1926 when I was about 12 (45 years ago). I had completely forgotten about them until last year when he passed away and I pulled out some old pictures of us for his service. I've just recently actually gone through and gained an interest in coin collecting, and I can attribute it to something I found in that set. Almost every coin would seem to grade very low according to the YouTube videos I've watched, but there is one that I think may be special: it's a 1913, no mint mark, and is completely missing the "Y" in "LIBERTY". Under magnification, it is obvious that it is not worn off, it was never minted with that letter. I have searched the internet for info, but nothing. I considered it could be a fake, but being thatit weighs at 3.115g, it seems to have aged correctly, & was in the set of others, I believe it to be authentic. Please help as to any info.

Thank you,

CD

Are you still answering questions? I realize this is an old thread. I have a 1992 D penny with slightly visible doubling on most of the letters on back (including E. PLURIBUS UNUM) & some letters on front. The 1992 is doubled, I don't think the D is double but hard to tell. I think the FG is close and close to the building. Some of the outer edges of building are doubled. The AM is wide or normal. Lincoln may have a slight double ear lobe. And what brought my attention to this coin is it has a circle stamped on the front big enough that it goes through the 2nd 9 on 1992 and between the B & E on LIBERTY. It appears to be a genuine oringinal stamp. The outside edge appears double stamped as well. I can't find a similar coin with a google search.

Was trying to find out if you have any information on a 1975 Lincoln penny that the 1975 is doubled but the doubling in the 9 7 and the 5 are extremely crooked.

have a 1959 D penny with different size 9s. The top of the first 9 is level with the tops of the 1,5, and other 9. Only difference is the tail of the first 9 extends a noticeable difference lower than the tail of the second 9, and maybe slightly thicker.
