2005 Argentina 10 Centavos

It has been over three years since I last found an Argentinian coin. They are common but tourism, in either direction, is not common around here so finding them in our change is difficult.

The one was given to me as a cent becuase of the dark marks it took me a few seconds to read the coin. This series of 10 centavos coins lasted from 1992-2005 before they switched to the cheaper brass-plated steel.

Here's the stats ...
Type/Country: 10 Centavos / Argentina
Year: 2005

1993 Argentina 25 Centavos (Cu-Ni)

This was a nice recent change find. Argentinian coins sometimes pop up in my change thanks to a healthy tourist trade. I can only assume that the big 25 confused someone into thinking it was a quarter. Although our quarters do not have a big 25 on them I can see how it can pass with little thought.

25 centavos (cents) 1993
· REPUBLICA ARGENTINA ·  EN UNION Y LIBERTAD (· REPUBLIC ARGENTINA ·  IN UNION AND LIBERTY)
This coin has two varieties.
First is the same design except made of brass, which I never seen and can only assume is brass colored. This type had a smaller minting of 80 million.
Second is the one pictured which is copper-nickel (Cu-Ni) and has a higher minting of 390 million.

Either type you have be aware they have the same value.

Here's the stats ...

Year: 1993
Mintage: 390,000,000
Metal: Copper-Nickel
Value: $0.30 in VF

1960 Argentina Anniversary Peso

Of the seven Argentinian coins I have this is the oldest and has the highest denomination. It is also special because it it a commemorative coin. They issued a regular 1960 peso but since it was the 150th anniversary of the removal of the Spanish Viceroy of course they needed to celebrate.

25 De Mayo
A week long revolution in May of 1810 ended with the viceroy's ousting from a huge plot of land encompassing at least four modern day countries. After the dust settled a local government was established and more dust got kicked up. War and six years later Argentina was independent from Spain.

This coin is slightly heavier than a normal peso and more common but still tastes the same. The entire country has reformed their coinage at least three times since this coin was minted.

Here's the stats ...
Type/Country: 1 Anniversary Peso / Argentina
Year: ND (1810-1960)
Mintage: 98,751,000
Metal: Nickel Clad Steel
Value: $0.75 in XF

It's Summer in Argentina

Warm weather and beautiful days exist somewhere but apparently not here. Instead of importing some of that nice heat and humidity someone just dropped off a few centavos in my change.

The two 5 Centavos are identical. Both are from 2007 so I just took one picture of the the best side.

The obverse has a radiant sun-face and the words REPUBLICA ARGENTINA , EN UNION Y LIBERTAD. This means Republic Argentina, In union and liberty..

The reverse has 5 centavos 2007.

Here's the stats ...
Type/Country: 5 Centavos / Argentina
Year: 2007
Mintage: 183,000,000
Metal: Brass
Value: $0.20 in XF

It's been years since I found a coin from Argentina apparently since 2002 there has been a healthy currency manipulation by Argentina to the U.S. dollar so the coinage does not flow as freely.
