10 Dollar Star Note

Do you have currency and want to know its value? Leave a comment/question and I will do my best to find out the price and history for you.

I did not start collecting notes/paper currency until even after I had some two dollar bills. I used the two dollar bills to buy stuff and years later when I started collecting again I vowed to find more two dollar bills.

Eventually I found the two dollar bills from many years and expanded my notes to old dollars and also star notes.

Star notes are replacement bills used by the government when regular issues are defective. They are rarer then regular notes.

I got this 10 dollar from my change. It is near perfect.

Notice the star at the end of the serial number.

Here's the stats for this $10 bill...
Type/Federal Bank: $10 Star Note / Richmond
Serial Number Span: BE-* BE03 840 000*
Year: 1999
Printings: 675,200
Value: CU(crisp uncirculated) $60.00

Finding star notes is not difficult but most people just pass them on and not all of the worth so much.

Do you have currency and want to know its value? Leave a comment/question and I will do my best to find out the price and history for you.

481 dollars worth, for Comments/Questions click here.:

Hi, how can you tell a 1912-S Nickel from a 1912-D Nickel???

Thanks.

Man said...

The mintmark on a 1912 nickel is located on the reverse of the coin.

At the bottom locate the word CENTS to the left is a dot, underneath the dot is the mintmark.

It will be a D, S or blank for Philadelphia.

I'll post a picture on my blog for you.

Help! I have a 1978 25th Anniversary of the Coronation, $250 proof gold coin from Jamaica in its original holder, box, with paperwork (mintage 25,000) and would like to know what it is worth.
Thank You

Man said...

The book value as of last year was $600 but there is 1.2507 oz of gold in that coin. Gold is at $640 per oz.
So it would be about $800 some debate how many coins were minted the book says 3,005 but some say 25,000.

Either way great coin.

I work at a bank and found 2 brand new never used $5 bills one serial number after the next (ending in 521 and 522) star notes. I also have a $100 bill that looks like it was used maybe 1 time. It has a slight fold in the middle. How much might they be worth?!

p.s.
Do you know much about coins?
Working at the bank I see tons of coin going in and out and I always keep the really old ones like the $1 coins from 1923 and 1/2 dollars from around 1940's. I have quarters made out of silver really old dimes..... My list goes on.

Anonymous said...

I forgot to add that the $5 bills were printed in 2003 and the $100 was printed in 1996.

Man said...

$5 2003 star notes depends on serial numbers, I need the full number to get the value but it's $35.00 to $75.00.

$100 1996 with fold is just $100.

I know a lot about coins plus have all the books about coins, plus I know old coin dealers.

1923 dollar is $12.00 in very fine.
1940s half are $6.00 in very fine.
Silver coins are always good and they start at 10 times face value if the year is special or the grade is high they can go for hundreds.

Feel free to look over my site and post all the question you want.

Oh my gosh! Thank you so much!
Well my 2003 $5 bill serial numbers are DL 03338571* and DL 03338572*. I hope that helps.
Ive looked up a coin dealer near me here in Houston and Im going to take what I have and see if they will give me any extra for it than the face value.

Anonymous said...

Hi, me again. My friends make fun of me because Im 22 and I collect old coins and watch I Love Lucy every day... Anywho, I had to ask,
I have a 1967 dime that looks like it might be slightly off center. When I compare it to a regular dime it has what looks like a thicker silver rim on the left uper side of it and its thiner twards the bottom right side of it. I might have to take it to a dealer to be sure.

Plus I have a 1976 $1 coin that is a 1776-1976 bicentennial dollar coin. It has what looks like a D under the neck but inside the D is filled in like if the nickle stuff or whatever they make them with smugged or something. (I might have to take this to a dealer also.) But do you think you can give me a guess as to how much it might cost?
Thanks!

Man said...

2003 $5 bill serial numbers are
DL 03338571*, DL 03338572* those are $35.00.

Dealers take anywhere from 10-50% off the book value.

1967 dime slightly off center is only a few cents over a regular it has to be 20% off center or more.
Here is what a 15% off-center quarter looks like. LINK.

1976-D $1 1776-1976 coin
D stands for Denver.
D is filled does not bring much more then the $2.00 value.

Today at work this old man came in and deposited $200. All in $50 bills. 3 of the bills were from 1934. I got to keep one of them.
They were in such good condition that we thought they were fake. But we showed them to our manager and everyone took at look at them, they were real. It looks as if it were never used before. The one I have is so crisp but its so old.
Ok the year again was 1934 and ther number on it is
J00296051A. Would this be worth anything?

Also I found a new 2003 $10 bill with a star on it. The bill its self was printed to far up twards the edge of the paper. There is to much empty room at the bottom of the bill. It also looks like its never been used.
The number on it is,
DJ00972015*

Man said...

$50 1934 J00296051A
in very-fine $85.00
in crisp uncirculated $400.00

I was just looking at one on eBay for $99.99 that was ugly too many folds. Here's the LINK>

2003 $10 star note off-set printing
DJ00972015* unless part of the picture is off-set then it doesn't add much value. It about $75.00 in crisp.

Anonymous said...

WOW! $400!! wow...

I just looked at the link that you showed for the e bay 50. Mine looks NOTHING like that! That one looks all used. Mine looks like if this man might have had it in a book or something all theses years. I have no idea where it came from looking so nice. There isnt a fold on it!

I also wanted to ask about a $100 bill from 1950 or 1969. Would it be worth anything?
I have one from 1969 B18631053A.

And one more question, sorry, when a serial number is "low" how low does it have to be to give bill more than facec vaule?

Man said...

Cute picture, nice couple.

"WOW! $400!!"
Yeah that is what they sell for in crisp but a dealer will buy it for less.

$100 1950 bill
most are worth $120.00 in very fine the star notes are worth $200.00 in very fine, these are more common, most collectors want the perfect examples. In crisp the values double for egular and is 5 times more for star notes.
1969 B18631053A just $100.00. In crisp it gains just a little more.

And one more question, sorry, when a serial number is "low" how low does it have to be to give bill more than face vaule?

The lower the serial number the better.
I'll post exactly how the book judges the value, her's the LINK>

50 dollar bill dated 1950. Nothing special about it so several weeks later I went back to the same store and when they did the pen test, it turned dark so they didn't want to accept it. Do the pen tests work on bills that old?

The pen test is unreliable on older bills, the bill may have a thin layer of grease or dirt 50 years old making it impossible to test but it can also be a fake.

If you are sure it is not special in any way then you have 2 choices...
Try and pass it on at another store.
Send it to the government and ask for a new one, hoping it isn't fake.

Anonymous said...

Went to the bank. They said it was a good bill. The ink test turned dark brown, not black as is the indicator of a fake bill. Said people who use the pen test aren't always as educated as they should be about the test. They gave me a new bill.

1950 bills do not always pass the marker test, take it to a bank and have use better tests.

That said it may be fake and would be confiscated at a bank. There is no sure way to test at home.

$50 Series 2004 EG03032505* about $60.00

The $50 will likely stay at this value for years to come if you can get $55 for it now it would be great but the market is not good for circulated bills.

Hi, I have two bills I have questions on:

The first, and "mundane" one is the value of a Series 1963A star note A 04248182* in VF-XF condition. And now for the fun one:

I have a discovery note, meaning the only one known. I've sent an image to Heritage, and they wouldn't give me anything more than a range that it might do at auction (in the several thousands of dollars). It is probably in Fine condition, and it's a 1934-C star Bank of Boston A 00026563 $50 bill. It is not listed in any paper money book. So, I'd be interested in knowing your opinion of value and where might be a good place to sell it and get the most money for it should I decide to on down the road. Thank you for your help-if you need an image let me know how to get it to you and I will.

Fine condition, and it's a 1934-C star Bank of Boston A 00026563 $50 bill
About $3,000.00 but as a newly discovered note it would be difficult to say because it may go for more than I would ever guess, I like to buy cheap.

Heritage is the best place to sell something like this.
To get the most the best thing you can to is show it off at currency forums and coin shows, try to spark interest and of course get it graded by PCGS.

The strange thing is that the back of the bill appears to have two flags on top of the building, and the left flag appears to be upside down.

First the flag is not upside down but waving, the plate that printed this bill was examined and it clearly shows the flag is right. When printing the waves accumulated ink and became blurry, to some it looks upside down but it is not. Later on the flag was made less wavy to stop the confusion.

It is about $12.50

About $1,000.00.
Best thing is to have it graded and sell it at a Heritage Auction.
Or have it graded and save it for the future.

Slight Off-Center does not add value.
That along with runny ink and rejection makes me think counterfeit.

Even if not a fake the errors are all too minor to add value, go to your bank have them check it and trade it for a new one.

Not all errors are valuable, some are just annoying.
