1918 (c) India-British Rupee

Do you have a coin from India and want to know its value? Comment

Showed this coin when I first won it in a coin contest back in 2005 but did not feature it.

This coin was made in Calcutta since there is no mint mark during the time of British rule. It is silver but no longer accepted as legal tender. Were it not got a cut or gauge at the back of the king's head this coin could have graded much higher.

The wreath of flowers on the back encircling the ONE RUPEE 1918 is wonderful. Even the edge has ornate denticles.

The front has old King George with the title of emperor as well. This design is known as Type II since the original 1911 version had been modified. Apparently the tiny elephant on the King's coat had straight legs and some Indian's thought it looked like a pig. This was a bit of an insult so the broadened the bottom of the feet and made it more elephantine for 1912 and later issuing.

Here's the stats for this coin...
Type/Country: 1 Rupee / India-British
Year: 1918 (c)
Mintage: 205,420,000
Metal: 91.7% Silver (assuming the balance is copper)
Value: XF at $12.50 There is a cut/damage on the coin.

Do you have a rupee from India and want to know its value? Leave a comment/question and I will do my best to find out the price and history for you

59 dollars worth, for Comments/Questions click here.:

I found some foreign coins in my change.

First, there is a 2001 2 Dollar Australian coin.

1 Euro Cent Coin. I have no idea where it's from. It is very small and looks like some kind of leaf on the back.

1997 Dominican Republic 5 Pesos.

1998 Barbados One Cent.

I also got 3 more Presidential Dollar Coins.

I also love to collect the 1976 Bicentennial quarters. I have at least $30 dollars in those quarters

Assuming at least extra-fine...

2001 2 Dollar Australian coin about $2.00

1 Euro Cent Coin. I have no idea where it's from. It is very small and looks like some kind of leaf on the back.
--German about $0.15 depending on year and mint mark

1997 Dominican Republic 5 Pesos about $1.25

1998 Barbados One Cent about $0.05

I also got 3 more Presidential Dollar Coins.
--Nice

I also love to collect the 1976 Bicentennial quarters. I have at least $30 dollars in those quarters
--Not bad, but unless they high grade they are common.

TL said...

Why are they so small (The German euro). The mint mark is O and the year is 2002.

Most of the Bicentennial quarters are circulated condition.

For the Presidential One Dollar coins, I only need to find 4 more and I'll have the P mint mark collection complete.

The ones I am missing are 2 from 2008: James Monroe and John Quincy Adams, and 2 from 2010: Millard Fillmore and James Buchanan.

I have all from 2007, 2009, and 2011 and tons of doubles.

--No such mint mark, should be A, D, F, G, or J.
About $0.05 for all 2002 so no big difference. 2003 is worth 10x as normal.
--It is small because it's just a cent. It needs to feel different from the 2 cents piece.

Most of the Bicentennial quarters are circulated condition.
--Well separate the better ones.

For the Presidential One Dollar coins, I only need to find 4 more and I'll have the P mint mark collection complete.
--Dang, that's cool.

I have all from 2007, 2009, and 2011 and tons of doubles.
--Again try and keep the best of the best.

What is this:

Greece
2002 S in star
2 Euro Dollars
Mintage: 70,000,000
About $2.75

A bit rusty but why is Europa censored?

Nice one, the S in stars are harder to find.

I'm pretty sure she's naked, right?

Yes, but nothing explicit just the female form.

I guess for the same reason it usually is not pictured in coin books.

Gotcha. I just didn't want to post anything that would be considered offensive (says the guy who has posted a Nazi coin and a Confederate $5.00 bill).

Understood, your blog it's your choice.

Coin designs are art and most of the time careful consideration is made to not offend.

That said have you seen "adult" club tokens. They are collectible and have some crude designs.
Unfortunately all the links I use to have are dead.

Hunter Krueger said...

I'd never heard of adult club tokens until now. I know someone who might know about them, though.

They were very popular 10 years ago when the internet was young but now they are considered tame and boring.

Man said...

Oh those adult club tokens is on my short list of finds I hope to get in my change.

Others thing I hope to find:
Ancient coin (500+ yrs old)
Gold coin (official)
Colorized coin (official)
$1,000 collectors value coin or currency
US Proof coin

I have found:
QVC Plated coins
Fake coins
Plastic currency (official)
Foreign currency
Foreign Proof coin
Religious medals

Rare U.S. coins are a part of our history--direct links to America's rich heritage--as timeless and valuable as history itself. For two centuries, U.S. coins have been symbols of American stability, as well as reflections of national pride. Throughout our nation's history, coins have spotlighted our national heroes, paid tribute to our great achievements and commemorated significant events. These truly historic works of art commemorate past sacrifices made in the name of freedom.

I got that same comment from Ed Smith. I also wrote a really long comment but for some reason my phone didn't post it. It went something like this: I watched a video on YouTube a few months ago in which this guy bought some boxes of dimes from the bank and got some silver Canadian dimes and a proof U.S. Dime. Another cool find would be an ancient gold coin worth $1,000.

--Roll hunting does work well.

Another cool find would be an ancient gold coin worth $1,000.
--One roll hunter I know found a French gold coin about $150 which is average for small common gold coins.

It was a D mint mark, not O. My bad. My friend says that she 36 Presidential Dollar coins, so hopefully she has the new I need to find to complete the collection. I wish newer Kennedy half dollars (1990+) were more common in change.

Most were not released for circulation but any you find is good these days.

Hunter Krueger said...

It did it again! My phone is not in a posting mood today. Anyway the comment said: "--It happens." that reminds me of Forrest Gump. He/she must have been happy when he/she found that gold coin. I know I would have figuratively died if I found one in circulation.
