1985 Taiwan 10 Yuan

Do you have a Taiwanese coin and want to know its value? Leave a comment

This is listed as a Republic of China coin with the subheading of Taiwan. There is so much history, drama, and politics going on with these two countries that I will just stick to talking about the coin.

With a bust of military leader Chiang Kai-shek and simple flower branches on the back this coin is very understated compared to others. Edges are reeded given it the look and feel of a quarter, although I cannot remember how I got it.

Obverse says year 74 or 1985. Otherwise not sure what the coin says because the symbols are unfamiliar to me. I tried but maybe it is something with the regional characters or maybe I just do not see it. Oh well I welcome any help, this is a learning blog and I love to learn.

Here's the stats...
Type/Country: 10 Yuan / Republic of China - Taiwan
Year: 1985
Mintage: 200,000,000
Metal: Copper-Nickel
Value: Very-Fine about $0.30

Do you have a coin from Taiwan and want to know its value? Leave a comment/question and I will do my best to find out the price and history for you.

I have a question about a Canadian penny I got today. It is a little bigger than a normal one, it's from 1996 and on the back there is a crown, a gate and some chains. I have never seen this before.

Not Canadian, it's British.

About $0.02 here is a link of the ones I found, my British coins.

DO you allow visitor submissions? I have quite a few interesting coins I have received at work(gas station)?

DO you allow visitor submissions?

Yeah just list them here; date, denomination, and country.

Was the coin made at the Canadian mint or does it have anything do with Canada besides the Queen portrait? It's a real interesting coin.

No, at The Royal Mint in the UK.
The Queen has been on coins for over 50 countries.

A pretty coin. Is it the same size as a quarter? I'm amazed at how many coins from different countries you come across; I suppose that says a lot about your community.

--Slightly larger.

--Well it is NYC but some did come from coin bags I bought. A friend is in Jamaica and I hinted no need for rum or t-shirts but if you can get a few coin I would be fine.

i have a 1942 20 centavos coin from mexico. and it has a small blob of metal on each side directly across from one another on the outer edge of rim, do you know the value ?

About $2.30 mostly for the silver value, the blob sounds like it was once in a pendant, this is damage.

it says 四十七, in other words 47 so year 47.

it says 四十七, in other words 47 so year 47.

I would disagree for a few reasons...
-Taiwan made no coins in Year 47.
-Year 47 is 1958 and China made no yuan coins for that year.
-You are reading it from left to right, the coin is written from right or left.
--It should be read, 七十四 which is 74.

Man said...

-You are reading it from left to right, the coin is written from right to left.

Corrected sentence.

I have a coin exactly like this one, it's still quite shiny as well. How much would it be worth? (I know the pound value is rather unstable at the moment, but it would be of great pleasure to me if you gave a rough estimate in pounds)

The date is on the front above the guy's head.
I use a guide for the date like this one...
Dating Taiwanese Coins

As for value I use several resource but coin books are a good guide.

Hi I have a coin just like the one in the picture above. With the man smiling and flowers and a 10 in the back? Is this worth anything?
