Forgotten Token

Do you have a token and want to know its value? Leave a comment/question and I will do my best to find out the price and history for you.

Now I was looking at my long neglected Flickr site and saw a token that I was suppose to follow up on price. The problem is that I can't recall if I posted anything about it. I searched my old post and can't find it so even if this is a repost I will write it up anyway.

The thing with this transportation token that had me thinking twice is that it has several die cracks. Die cracks on tokens are common because they are not held to the same standards as coins. Does this bring a higher value? I'm not sure.

Effective Wednesday, July 9, 2003 all of the duties, obligations and powers of the New Jersey Highway Authority were transferred to the New Jersey Turnpike Authority. Granted this token has not been used in about 25 years.

Tokens are made in less numbers then coins but are often kept by more people since once they are discontinued they can't be used anywhere else. After this at least 3 more tokens were issued for the New Jersey Turnpike.

Also although this one says 1952 I think it may be from the 1980s.

Here are the stats for this token...
Type/Country: New Jersey Highways One Fare/USA
Year: 1952 (1981?)
Mintage: Unknown.
Metal: Brass
Value: $0.35
Obverse Writing:New Jersey Highway Authority 1952 / GSP
Reverse Writing: Garden State Car Token / Parkway / One Fare

Do you have a token and want to know its value? Leave a comment/question and I will do my best to find out the price and history for you.

50 dollars worth, for Comments/Questions click here.:

Hello, I have a 1973 token. It's $5 "redeemable for cash" at Halls Crown Center.

front:

back:
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a22/Beans_the_Bassist/SL273903.jpg?t=1217804350

I got these at a garage sale years ago, and I have five of them.

The Asian said...

Sorry, I meant redeemable for merchandise.

1973 token. It's $5 "redeemable for cash" at Halls Crown Center.

I've done an extensive search and while I know it's from the Grand Opening of the Halls Crown Center that's it.

I've never seen this in auction and it is relatively new, only 3 years old.

I'll post in a forum to see if anyone else has seen them.

For now $5 a piece should be a fair value. Until I know how many survived I can't be sure.

I don't see any initials or mint maker. Anything on the edge?

The Asian said...

No, there's nothing on the edge. It's completely flat. I've tried doing research too, but that's the only thing I found too.

Man said...

I posted in some forums and got no responses.

Also from the few token books I have access to this is not listed because this is a modern-private merchant token.

From what I learned about research a few places may help with this...
~some Kansas College/University
~Hallmark Company
~keep checking eBay

You would have to email them to ask for history but neither will give you a value.

If I ever find more info I'll make a post, sorry I couldn't find more.

The Asian said...

Thanks for the effort! I e-mailed the Hallmark company, and hopefully they'll give me information. :)

Man said...

Someone led me to an old eBay auction that had this info.

"Halls Crown Center $5 dollar Token - 1973 - Kansas City[view item] $6.95."

The item is long gone and I can't track the dealer. The picture of this auction is also gone I only get "Invalid Item" meaning more than 6 months have passed.

The Asian said...

I managed to get a reply from Halls, and here's what they said:

"Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately, we have no records regarding
this 35 year old token. We would, of course, be happy to honor the token
if you would like to submit it to either of our Customer Service
Departments (Halls Crown Center or Halls Plaza). Please let us know if we
can be of further assistance.

Halls Contact Staff"

Unbelievable. I even sent them the picture links, and they still didn't know anything about it.

Man said...

That is funny and cool you actually got a response.

I checked Franklin Mint records and they did not make this token, they are the largest private coin makers. But their history is not complete.

I wouldn't use it at the mall but if you do at least keep the best one.

Also keep the email for your records because you can always quote it if you sell it in an auction.

The Asian said...

Will do! :)

Not coins or tokens but it looks like some type of jewelry.

No coin value but maybe some metal or art value.

Unfortunately I can't say where they came from maybe try an antique shop.

I found this token and don't know what it is. Its roughly the size of a nickel. On one side, there is a guy in a turbin and on the back is a castle. it looks like it used to be red. I can get you pictures if you need them.

Maybe a casino or gaming token which would have no real value.

Try to use a photo site and drop a link here, but I still may not be able to find out.

It is a medallion very common if you have all the paperwork it's about $7.50 and it has not tarnished or hazed.

Good Day

I found in my change today an American penny. It is dated 1862. On the one side, it has a man riding a horse, sword in hand and outstretched in front of him, on the reverse a sheild with stars in the top portion and vertical stripes in the lower portion. Above the shield it reads 'Union For Ever'. The word 'For' is in smaller type, and is oddly seperated from the 'Ever'. I have found other coins which have one or the other side but no other coin which has both of these sides. Can you please provide any assistance.

I am excited that I simply found this in my pocket change as I was standing in line to pay for something at 7-11. Regardless of the value, I would simply like to learn more about the coin.

Thank you for your time and attention.

Not a penny but a token, I know of the 1863 but never a 1862.

Here is a good link...

If yours is 1862 I suspect it's a replica but if not it's about $50.00 But I'm not a token expert try the link above.

Old USSR gambling token, likely from a Fortuna Slot machine made of what they called "yellow metal".

Here is an IMAGE
From this site...

They may have more info but it is in Russian and the translation is not working.

As for value they are generally only a few dollars and as for history I do not know. Tokens are hard to track hopefully some of this was useful.

Hi. Recently, I went bottle digging in Joliet, IL and found about 40 of these tokens with a broken mason jar. What were these, is there any age to them, what were they from, is there any value to them, etc. I am very clueless and ANY help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you SO MUCH for your time and effort.

Kratzmeyer & Rochelle or Knickerbocker Hotel but those are only guesses.

It is nearly impossible to identify these since they are still being made. I will keep looking but if from pre-1940s which I think it is it's about $0.50 each even if unidentified.

Side 1: TELEFON JETONU and a groove in the middle
Side 2: PTT and 2 grooves

Both sides: Cafe Bar. twice on the side and a circle in the middle

#3

Side 1: TOKEN COIN on the top and a number 5 with FIVE PENCE on the botttom
Side 2: TOKEN COIN on the top and bottom and the design that is on the back of a real 5 pence coin. I think that this might be a play money 5 pence but I am not sure.

Could you please find out for me what the tokens are for and their value? Thanks.

Hi, I was passed down this token that I cannot find in any of my books or the internet. It's a "The President's Month" from Sept. 7 to Oct. 4 1937 (I'm not sure if that's the real date of the coin) The reverse has "Science Instructing Industry" in a little banner above a large photo of... I don't really know what it is. It also says "Four Weeks for weeks". Have you ever seen one before or know what it is? Thanks in advance. Here are some pictures.

This is a medal and I have seen it at auction but I don't know the history.

I think it is real from 1937 a service medal given to volunteers. But I cannot say 100%.

Average is about $15.00 in that condition.

The Sales tax tokens are common less than $1.00 each they are common and not in great shape.

The (Colorado with 180 deg. rotated die.) does not seem to be special, again token varieties are a bit out of my comfort zone.

The Transit token is also common about $1.00 although I think they raised the fare to $2.00 so it is bound to go up in value.

The Olympic medals do not match anything I've seen. Officially noe would have been plated. I think it is a toy or souvenir, sorry but this one is unknown.
If Ifind anything I wil update.

Basically worthless but $1.00 if still in great shiny shape.

The are private mass produced tokens and have little interest so that means little value.
