The Other 2003-P Canada Dime

Do you have a Canadian dime and want to know its value? Leave a comment

Two 2003-P Canadian dimes were made and one 2003-WP (not for circulation). For the 2003-P the difference is the Queen's portrait. Every couple of decades Queen Elizabeth II has her official image updated. When the update occurs everything that uses her official portrait must change to the new image. Granted it gives an opportunity for some to dump the Queen altogether.

This dime has the older portrait which featured the middle aged Queen. This portrait was first used in 1990 and the update with the senior Queen was introduced in 2003. The update overlaps so different obverses can be seen on the same year.

Here is the newer version of the Queen I found it August of 2010.

Value wise there is no difference as I still believe they were made in even quantities.

Oooh imagine if the Queen lives for another twenty years. What would the next portrait look like?

Here's the stats...
Type/Country: 10 Cents / Canada
Year: 2003-P Newer Queen effigy, old portrait
Mintage: 163,684,000 (both types included)
Metal: 92% Steel, 5.5% Copper, 2.5% Nickel
Value: $0.10

Do you have a dime form Canada and want to know its value? Leave a comment/question and I will do my best to find out the price and history for you.

7 dollars worth, for Comments/Questions click here.:

Ooh. Just imagine. :)

It would be interesting if we created a 2 cent coin (why don't keyboards have a cent key?) and it featured the president elect. And maybe the amount of coins minted could be an inversely correlated to the approval rating at the 2 year mark? The higher the approval rating, the less coins minted, increasing the value and demand and collector's value. There we go, that would be fun. Someone needs to hire us. ;)

--They did make 2 and 3 cents coin but they were not popular, I think there is a law against putting living presidents on coins.

And I know isn't the lack of a ¢.
typing ¢ or &#162 is annoying So I just copy and past the actual symbol.

Oh my goodness. I may be late to the game, but you just introduced me to the world of some very neat html symbol codes. :)

Hmmm, a law against living presidents on coins. Why would that be? I can see, perhaps, their being a law against in office presidents being placed on coins.

I tell you what, I read a lot of different blogs for various reasons...but I really love that I learn things when I read your blog.

Something about dictator/kings and it was started by George Washington who thought it lacked honor.

I do if I write a html program or send a hidden email message but now I just copy and paste.
