Hello Do you know anything about errors in dollar
bills? I have a crisp one dollar bill 1981 that is stamped with an "E" on the
front and also on the back.

I responded with...

Man said...
I need a picture to be more exact but it is possible, it is called Overprints on Back, it would also include a weak serial number along with the E.

In crisp uncirculated it would be worth $250.00.
It was a logic response because I didn't know the E was reversed.

Next...

Anonymous said...
I have a picture but how can I show you a picture? The normal cut and paste didn't work. After looking at it closer I see that the E is not stamped on both sides. It has actually bled through to the back. The E is very dark on the back and it is reversed. There are also four 5's that have bled through...as they are reversed, also. The serial number is only visible on the front.
Oh I see things more clearly...

Sounds like you have an Offset Error for one dollar bills its about $75 to $100.

Here's a ten dollar example I used Imageshack to host the image and then the HTML tags a and href
Picture
Anonymous' error sounds like a moderate-lighter version that happened on this ten dollar bill.

An offset error in the 3rd printing of a bill can lead to the "letter seal" and the serial numbers to bleed through the back this is the most common of error notes but still valuable. In one case a 1981 5 dollar bill with a 1 dollar bleed through this of course is a rare and highly valuable.

As you see with the ten dollar error above the prices should be divided by about three for your 1 dollar, so Fine: $50.00 EF: $100.00 CU:$150.00 remember the market changes and see prices reflect the highest you may ever hope to get.

Sidenote: With places like Flickr, imageshack and photobucket or other blogs just drop a link to your photo by using this format

bill that had what seemed to be very very thick ink. It is so thick the ink is actually shiny and you can feel it raised above the paper. There is some transfer from other bills on it. The ink will still stick to your finger. It is thick on both the front and the back of the bill. However it's thicker on the left side of both sides.

It is an Ink Transfer error this is a minor one. Looks like a sheet of notes got folded over and the rest had an uneven inking.

About $5.00

I have questions concerning two different bills. The first belongs to my mother. She has had it since the 80's, and has only kept it so long because it has no serial number. I was hoping to find out for her what it might be worth.

Second. My husband and I have found a Twenty dollar bill with two letters stamped on Jackson's head. You can clearly notice that the letters are the same ink as the other writing on the bill. So far I've not been able to find anything on the net about such an error and was hoping maybe someone there would know. I have pictures if needed.

Sounds like an Offset Transfer error, if just the portrait of Washington about $40.00.

If 100% of front is on the back it is $200.00.

Correct an Offset Printing error, 100% complete.
Fold and not sharp corners I would be conservative and say very-fine about $100.00.

Hello,

I have two one-dollar series 2006 Federal Reserve Bank notes of St Louis MO, with consecutive series numbers. These notes have the reverses impression of a Lincoln five-dollar bill on the reverse, minus the seals, serial numbers, signatures and such. The notes are in UNC condition. It would be of great help if you could let me know the value. Please find the link to the picture below

The last known offset involve different denomination was a $1 and $5 from 1981. I never saw the auction but it would be several thousands.

Many are faked but the few found are so rare I think a new one would be at least $3,000 possibly much more just for one. It has to be verified.

This is not a true error.
Any serial number above 96000000 on modern notes are part of the uncut sheets sold by the government for collectors.

Someone cut this sheet and ruined the value or tried to make a false error.

Either way no extra value.

That is just the district number, like you said it just the federal reserve numbers and should match up to the big E in the seal.

I see nothing special.

The term Five Aces in money usually means the serial number has 5 ones like...E11111800A.

They have no extra value but some people think they're lucky.

Possible Ink Smear error but with $100 bills it may also be a fake.

Let's assume an error it would have little to no extra value maybe $110.

Double Printing error is also possible and often has Ink Smears these start at $250.

All 3 possibilities needs to looked at by an expert in hand.

If proven real about $100 each but this can be done at home or accidentally by banks.

No extra value on minor Off-Center errors.

A bank will be able to verify it using a UV light machine. But if fake they would have to confiscate it and you will lose $10.

I doubt it is dirty.

The last thing before paying to have it professionally graded is to try a local coin and currency show. Show to many different dealers to try and estimate error or value.

Hi, I have a $1 bill that is normal, except that on the lower right portion of the obverse, there is a triangular overprint (which may not be the right technical term). It looks like what you would see on the reverse of the bill if the obverse were transparent. That is, it is the mirror image of the reverse. It is quite clear, but the colors don't quite match the reverse (in some places, it looks to be a lighter shade of green, rather than the very dark, almost black of the reverse around the words "The Great Seal," for example). Any information would be helpful. Thanks.

I think it is a Partial Offset Printing error, that small is about $15.00.

I have a $20 that has a bird in flight on the back right side.I have never seen this before, tried to wipe it off and it doesn't. Just wondered if this was a true misprint and how much is it worth?

Minor alignment issue, no extra value unless a piece of the next bill is showing or the design has been cutoff.

Possible Insufficient Ink error, at least $350.00 but this is an easily faked error so it has to be verified.

No extra value, it has to missing a bit of the design or have a piece of another bill coming in to have value.

$1 2006 D rear ink transfer. My friend received this as change from an Army PX near Seattle in 2010. I needed 5 singles for a $5. After that I noticed the ink transfer. Heavy vertical fold and a few other minor folds/creases, but otherwise fairly crisp.

referring to the above post for 2006 D $1. I guess this is actually an offset transfer?
