2011 Annual Sets

Do you have a coin set and want to know its value? Leave a comment

Early this time posting about the annual coin sets. For the mere price of  $136.80 you too can once again own coins that are very shiny.

The price breakdown:

2010 Proof Set  14-Coins $31.95
2010 Silver Proof Set 14-Coins $67.95
2010 Uncirculated Coin Set  28-Coins $31.95
Shipping & Handling
$4.95

The Silver Proof Set jumped in price by $11.00 since last year. On the news that silver prices are still rising the mint has suspended sales on this set. The reason is that they are not making enough profit on these coins. As of today (April 19, 2011) silver is $43.87 per ounce add the other metal costs there is about $63.77 worth of metal in this set. Not to mention the cost to place in them in these plastic and paper sets. You can quickly see the profit/loss margin is way too close.

Check out the new packaging it reminds me of a box of chocolates.

The new packaging is an attempt to be hip and I guess save on graphics.

This was my favorite of all the coins.
Aside from the shiny coins another bright spot was the quick delivery. I ordered them on April 12 and it was in my hand by April 18. This was done by shipping through FedEx Smartpost which takes it from the warehouse and delivers it to the local U.S. Post Office of the recipient.

Here are the stats...
Type/Country: Silver Proof Set / United States
Year: 2011-S
Mintage: Not yet known.
Metal: Silver proof type, except for the nickel & dollars, cent.
Value: $70.00 in box

Type/Country: Mint Set / United States
Year: 2011-D, 2011-P
Mintage: Not yet known.
Metal: Normal circulation type.
Value: $31.95 in box

Type/Country: Proof Set / United States
Year: 2010-S
Mintage: Not yet known.
Metal: Normal proof.
Value: $31.95 in box

If silver does not go down soon the mint will probably take the unusual step of raising the price of its silver set. The reason they should be hesitant is that they had printed ads with the old price and people these days are likely to sue over a slight breeze so this is one headache the mint is trying to avoid.

Do you have an uncirculated mint or silver proof set and want to know its value? Leave a comment / question and I will do my best to find out the price and history for you.

You're funny. I think I enjoy your sense of humor...at least, the small bits of it that I seem to sense from time to time.

Glad to hear you got these coins so quickly. What makes that dollar coin your favorite?

I tend to hold back on my jokes, especially in college. Some people can be a little too sensitive these days.

What makes that dollar coin your favorite?
I like the simplicity. Just two hands tells an incredible story of peace and history.
Compared to the parks quarters that stuff an entire park on the back of a coin.

I got a Statehood quarter collection 2005 Gold edition. West Virginia and California are D mint marks and Oregon, Kansas, and Minnesota are P. Are these 100% gold, gold plated, or not even gold? Is there any value to them? Thanks, your help is greatly appreciated.

These are plated but the gold layer is so thin it has no true value, there is more gold in a cellphone than in a hundred of these coins. The gold is considered unrecoverable.

As a collectible it is considered damaged. Sorry to say they have no real value above face value.

I know nothing about coins/collecting so forgive me for not using the right terminology to describe what I have. I have a set of 15 half dollars, each a different year ranging from 1950 to 1964. They all have Ben Franklin on them except for the 1964 one that has JFK on it. They are displayed in order in a flat plastic holder with the label "U.S. Half Dollars" & "Proof". Each coin is labeled with its year. Is this called a "proof set"? Any idea of the value for the whole set? Would it be better to take them out of the holder and sell each coin individually? Thanks!

--No, these were coins taken out of a real set and put together by a private company.
--Proof coins are very shiny like a mirror while normal coins are dull.

Any idea of the value for the whole set?
--Without knowing which are proofs I can only guess but if normal each is $11.00.
If proof each is about $25.00.

Would it be better to take them out of the holder and sell each coin individually?
--Sell them individually if proof or high grade because they will be worth more.

I'm not quite sure where to put this so I'm deciding to put it under my favorite precious metal category. I found your blog about 2 months ago and it has been very helpful to me to know the value of my foreign coins and old circulation coins that I knew almost nothing about and always getting a quick response. I have been collecting since I was three when my dad gave me a Sacagewea Gold Dollar as a present. Old circulation coins and foreign coins have always interested me so I am glad there are people out there who collect coins from change that they think are cool too. So far my collection has expanded to gold and silver but still mostly circulation coins. Anyway I just wanted to say thanks for everything and happy hunting!
