I got the lot of foreign coins about a week ago and as promised I'm showing of some interesting pieces. I paid exactly $0.10 per coin and the average value for the coins was $0.34 per coin. Some coins were horrible and full of damage. All the coins have been searched, you should always expect the coins to be searched even if they say unsearched.
I'll start with some New Zealand coins because some one just asked a question about them.
Some things you may not know about New Zealand coins, as of July 31 2006, 10, 20, and 50 cents coins were replaced by new small thin versions and the nickel (5 cents) coin was removed from circulation. These coins are demonetized and no longer accepted in the their native lands.

I hope I'm wrong but yes all that is left is to pay an expert to grade it. New Zealand coins have been plated since the 1950s it has something to do with fashion or style. But none have any extra value.

Thanks. Good to know. I'll be hanging on to these ones for a while. The $2 info was for you. I live in NZ and I still see the occasional 97/98 $2 coin in circulation. I have one of each stashed as I'm sure they'll be worth a little something many generations down the track. As it stands, they're worth far more as actual currency than as "collectors' items"... for what NZ$2 is worth. Just thought you'd like to know the 'why' of the recall. Cheers :)

hi I colect coins and i have alot of the old new zealand 10 cents but recently i found an old new zealand 10 cent but at the bottom of the maori face it said one shilling yet my other 10 cents dont it is a new zealand 10 cent, one shilling 1969. Is it worth any more than my other 10 cents?

Yes before 1967 they used the pound sterling standard, then they switched to decimal coins but to not confuse people from 1967-1969 they used the old names.
After 1969 the used the new name of "10 Cents".

Only 1/2 cents were made in The Netherlands in 1885.

There is a rare Proof variety where only 20 were made, but is has a mirror background not a dull finish.

front: around the edge it has - to Bravery then the right side has 7 little ferns the bottom has 20 dollars with 2 little ferns the left side has salute with a golden framed portrait of a man in the middle it has a family? left female holding males hand he wearing like an army majors hat,the little boy on females side with arm around him little girl on males side behind him holding on solid line under all of them with a air rifle? on the ground.
back side: 1995 elizabeth 2nd new zealand portrait of queen wearing a different crown (same one as the winter olympic 94 i asking bout) then normal looks like a few flowers together then a gap a square with 4 petals 1 going to each corner with gaps filled in with sort of small dots with a bigger one making a + through the flower in each square one on a solid bit going round her head doted line top of it and bottom kinda thing she is also wearing earrings they hang just below the earlobe in a shape of a water droplet.

back side: very edge before it has queens name has a small pattern going around hole coin (like one } but tipped over so that point is facing up withe 3 solid line with the middle one a tiny bit bigger the ones ether side)Elizabeth 2nd queen of new zealand around the back of the coin with a little design like an out line of a f petaled flower with a smaller solid one in the middle leaving a tiny gap between the outer one on each side of the year on the bottom. portrat of queen in middle with a wearing a crown that is then on the side going bigger/higher in the middle/front then back down. its rounded not straight hard edge filled with silid little dots and she is wearinf earrings round ones that sit on the earlob filled with dots aswell and a necklace that looks like 3 each one hanging bit lower then the other
front side:looks like tiny little waves going round the edge of the coin with a shield in the middle with with 5 areas on it with top left had 4 stars bottom left some grown item with a string around stork holding together middle top to bottom of shield is 3 little boats (think the endeavour) top right a goat with rope around its tummy holding it up of the ground right bottom 2 old hand mad hammers crossing each other , on top of the shield is a crown (like the one the had on the cartoon king arthur) with a cross sticking higher then rest of crown with a fern leaf going down from top of crown and curved around each side down to bottom of shield the has ONE DOLLAR at point of shield and between tip of fern leafs

A blank is usually 100 times face value so about $200.00 in very-fine.
That said I have never seen this type at auction so I do not know if there is a market or if I'm guessing low.

Hi, I have a new zealand 1987 20c error coin, its too thin and the and the die strike is too weak.
It hasn't been in circulation my mother picked up on it while working as a teller in a bank - it was a fresh batch in from where ever them come from.

Could be Lamination error, where a piece breaks off but still gets stamped. About $10.00
Also an Off Metal strike, where a different coin blank was used, about $100.00.
At this point the only way to now is to have someone look at it in hand, try clubs and dealers get more than 3 opinions.
New Zealand error are rare but they also are hard to sell as the market is small.

It should weigh 10 grams and be 29 mm in diameter.
I do not think anyone would fake this coin.
It would be about $4.00 on average. Assuming it is a 2-1/2 G coin.
