Canadian Pocket Change Finds

Do you have a Canadian coin and want to know its value? Leave a comment/question and I will do my best to find out the price and history for you.

Here are two pictures I recently took of all the Canadian coins I've found in my change. I've found about to 300 coins from Canada here in New York City.

The picture as you can tell was taken twice one with flash and the other with indoor lights. I'm still not comfortable shooting my coins with a camera.

This is the average condition of modern circulating Canadians. Notice the almost proof-like quality.

Here's what I've found and there average value.
Canadian Pennies: Oldest=1943, Newest=2005,2005P, Average value=$0.10
Canadian Nickels: Oldest=1964, Newest=2003P, Average value=$0.20
Canadian Dimes: Oldest=1953, Newest=2005P, Average value=$0.15
Canadian Quarters: Oldest=1956, Newest=2004P, Average value=$0.30
Canadian Two-Dollars: Only the one from 1996, Average value=$3.00
Toronto Transit Token: Circa 1954, Average value=Not sure but I've seen it for $1.00 on eBay.

As you can see I've never found a fifty cent or dollar coin, also I've found silver but no coin older then the WWII years.

Do you have a Canadian coin and want to know its value? Leave a comment/question and I will do my best to find out the price and history for you.

820 dollars worth, for Comments/Questions click here.:

About $1.50 in extra-fine, the H is the Birmingham Mint mark.

I have a roll of 1984 Canadian dimes collected by my father. Why would he collect them and are they worth anything?

Thank you

Man said...

1984 Canadian dimes collected by my father. Why would he collect them and are they worth anything?

I can't say why people collect but if all the coins are Uncirculated then it would be twice face value.

Unopened rolls are considered investments since the can go up to ten times face value but that would take about 50 years.

These will be great by 2034.

About $2.60 the flat C seems like a Struck Through Grease error, it does not add any value.

Sorry about the deletion it happens sometimes on Blogger.

where might I offer it up for sale, suggestion/s.

This 1949 Canada dime is silver and virtually anywhere they buy silver or gold it can be sold.

In person expect 20% less becuase that is standard.

If the coin is extra-fine or better, like alomost new it would be better on eBay.

Anonymous said...

Mmmm 20% Off the possible $2.60, ruffly $2.10,,
there,s no wear on Mine, discountin the "C" that is,the lil ridge around the edges is sharp, and the surretted outside edge snags My fingernail as I roll the coin...

I did see 1 on ebay, selling/sold for $9.00, and another there for 7.99,, but they were both a pinkish color, like "black hills" gold or the pink of tri-colored gold. Know which I speak of.
Plus they were in lil plastic sealed bags, like never circulated types maybe?
Mines circulated I'm sure.

--Both overpriced and the oink is just toning.

I just checked eBay and most are overpriced and probably will never get sold but those at $4.00 or less seem fine.

Sounds fake, unless it was verified by a grading company.

Fakes of these were common 50 years ago, someone would take a 1916 Canada quarter and skillfully turn the 1 into a 0. The only clue of being a fake is the king facing the wrong way.

So yes a real coin but altered, no extra value. If you think it's real then it has to be graded.

I've never bloged before but since i found yours I've been on for over 4 hours!... thanks again!

--Silver proof quarters were sold for $14.95 each individually wrapped. They were packaged in a small compact oval container lined in velvet or felt and with the certificate of authenticity.
At the time they also sold the full 12 silvers for $149.95.
Do an eBay search of "1999 silver proof canada quarter" and you will see one for Decmeber, overvalued.
Without the case $8.00, with the case about $15.00.

the 73 rcmp large bust great cond. for a coin in full circulation how much is it worth?
--Assuming very-fine about $90.00.

thanks for the info man!... so i checked ebay i see what you mean what a joke 11 more for twice the price that fools asking. to bad i don't have the case. the only thing i have is the plastic case it comes in thats all cracked and missing little pieces. i don't even remember how i came to owning it!... maybe a gift?... 1999-2000 lots of coins minted by RMC don't know exact figures but 2012 close to 200 different coins!... amazing!...

Q.1965 American 25 cent coin whats the info? content, worth. this coin definitely has silver in it and what looks to be a lot of copper.
--This coin is not silver it should be nickel with a copper core.
8.33% Nickel, 91.67% Copper

whats the history of the coin & mintage
--1,819,717,540 were minted
This was the first non-silver quarter made.

whats with the sides being 180 to each other
--Normal, U.S. coins have coin alignment.
Most other countries use medal alignment so each side is facing up when spun around.
America likes to be different.

inperfict in so many ways like a coin of 100+ years!
--So many 1965 coins were struck that they tend to weakly struck, add to that they are old and it is hard to find these coins in decent shape.

Currently the RMC authorized dealers is selling it for $46.95 + $10 shipping and taxes so you did fine.

The problem is if you try and sell it now you will lose out, silver has gone down and these coins were hoarder so the market is down.

Anonymous said...

hey thanks man. so i sould be able to get some coins cheaper then normal right?... i dont plan on selling any of my coins. maybe the 1973 RCMP quarter if i get a couple of the large bust but only so i could buy more coin.

Anonymous said...

P.S. what do you mean by this? The problem is if you try and sell it now you will lose out, silver has gone down and these coins were hoarder so the market is down.

Man said...

so i sould be able to get some coins cheaper then normal right?

Well silver is currently under $30 so now is a good time to buy.

Man said...

what do you mean by this? The problem is if you try and sell it now you will lose out, silver has gone down and these coins were hoarder so the market is down.

When the 2010 Navy dollar first went on sale they were $55 or more but silver value dropped which is why it is now $47.
But most coin shops will buy it for about $40 out of fears that silver will continue to drop.

So basically selling now is not wise.

Anonymous said...

well thank you very much mr. man for the info as always.well my coins are not for sale at least most of them that is. so this ones definitely for keeps! thanks again!...

Hey Man,
I have a canadian pennies from 1969 to 2006, all fine condition or better, i'm guessing only the oldest will have a chance of being worth more. Are there any defects I should look for during any of these years?
Also, I have a state quarter with a slightly rotated die (the one side is rotated out of alignment) I was wondering if that is anything special.
Thanks very much
