More Cents than a Penny

Do you have a foreign coin and want to know its value? Leave a comment/question and I will do my best to find out the price and history for you.

So in the last days of September I found these two coins in my change. One is an Austrian 2 Euro Cents and the other is a Canadian cent. What's the significance? Well around the same time the Canadian Dollar beat the U.S. dollar.

As you may already know the Euro has been outperforming the U.S. for a while.
Today the currency exchange rate is
$1.00 to $0.94 for the Canadian Dollar
$1.00 to $1.47 for the Euro Dollar

Well even without the exchange prices there is still the numismatic values.

Here are the stats...
Type/Country: 2 Euro Cents/Austria
Year: 2004
Mintage: 156,500,000
Metal: Copper Plated Steel
Value: $0.25 in UNC(although this one look less.)

Type / Country: 1 Cent / Canada
Year: 2005
Mintage: 759,658,000
Metal: Bronze-Plated Zinc
Value: $0.10 in MS-60(again this one look less.)

Updated August 18, 2008

About $12.00 depending on serial number.

I am not a collector but have a US$100 bill that is in very good condition. The serial number is in red letters/numbers and I'd like to know how much it is worth, please? The serial number is A 00597085 A. Series is 1966. There is a red seal to the left of the photo but I can't read it as the words "ONE HUNDRED" are printed over it. I know it is the Dept of Treasury seal, though. Above the seal is "Washington, DC."

I also have a bunch of Silver Certificates (US$ 1 and 2.) that I found in my deceased Mom's things. There are a lot of those so I won't list them.

Any help you can give is appreciated!
Thank you and regards,
Kasey

It is about $150.00.

bunch of Silver Certificates (US$ 1 and 2.)

I don't mind the list.
$1 Silver Certificates start at $2.50 and go up to $2,500.00 in low grades. In higher grades it can triple in value.

$2 Silver Certificates start at $7.00 and go up to $12,000.00 in low grades. In higher grades it can triple in value.

If you want to list them just put the denomination, the serial number and the year. If I need more info I'll just post a new comment.

Thank you so very much, Man. I will get the silvers out of the sdp and post the numbers. It is so kind of you to do this. I truly appreciate it. How do I sell the $100 for $150?? As you can tell, I'm a novice at this.
Thank you so very much!

Man said...

How do I sell the $100 for $150?

I get most of my old coins from eBay. It sounds obvious but eBay is the best place to sell. I've had bad experiences with coin shops.

Maybe if you joined a coin forum you can sell directly to other members. Selling is difficult for new people because of lots of scammers in the collecting business.

Anonymous said...

Maybe I should just keep it. Does the value increase with time? I'd hate to be scammed if I sold it. What a shame that people do that!
Thanks again for all your help. When I get the silvers out of the sdb, I'll post them, too. Should be in the next day or two.
Thanks again, Man. You rock!
Kasey

Man said...

Does the value increase with time?

Not always.
Especially with newer notes and coins. They sell very high initially and after a month or two the drop.

As for older bills and coins the market can go up and down by hundreds after large estate or government sales.

I have 2 1982 constitution silver dollars. I believe the rim is raised on both sides of the coin and it is in very good condition. I noticed someone selling them on ebay at auction for over $5000. Could they be really worth that much?

Man said...

1982 constitution silver dollars

I assume you mean from Canada.
Even in certified MS-68 which is only 2 grades away from perfect it would only be about $20.00-$25.00.

I saw that $5,000 piece on eBay with "upset" dies it is real but worth barely $20.00 in MS-64 lots of that guys stuff is overpriced but he does have a few real rarities.

1962 canada nickel (do not know if bug tailed)

1961 canada nickel (do not know fi thsi is supposed to be the bug tailed nickel or not. XD)

1953 canada nickel. I'm not sure but I think that it isn't a key date. its leaf is near the rim and I can only see like, two milimeters of the queen's strap right where its supposed to be. So I don't think so. :P

Thanks!

Prices are for extra-fine condition.

1966 Australian two cent
About $0.15

1946 nickel US
About $0.30
If it were counterfeit it could be worth hundreds.

1962 canada nickel
About $0.15
Bug tail varieties are only for 1957 and not all collectors recognize them as true errors.

1961 canada nickel
About $0.15

1953 canada nickel.
Yes key date.
Sounds like the no strap, near leaf
About $750.00
This one would needs to photographed well on both sides and further investigated to make sure it is what you claim.
With such small details it may be hard to photo or scan.

Good luck

Wow thanks for all that info!! The Euro I think... Is from paris? I'm not sure! It has a girl with flowing hair. For the goddess.. Venus?

Anonymous said...

Oh and the 1946 coin, I am SO not sure if its 1946P,D, or S.. I don't know where the mint mark is SUPPOSED to be, because the 1944 one keeps on getting me confused...

The 1946 nickel has a.. sort of circle in the middle.. and some more circles coming out of it (not exactly.. bigger circles surround the smaller one.. it only went as long as ... well they're REALLY small.. so at least 10 circles going around the other. :) (so small I can't see how many.)

Its confusing for me too. Belive me.

Man said...

The Euro does sound French and she is called the "Seed Sower" it is about $0.75 in uncirculated.

The 1946 nickel has its mint mark on the back to the right of the building. It is either blank, D, or S.

The circles you describe sounds like someone took a drill to the coin. I've seen this on pennies and makes the coin worthless. If it was a real error it would be smooth without rings.

Anonymous said...

Darn!!
:S. Well, it's blank. :P All of my jeffie coins are blank. and I only have 2. :P. Thanks!!

Anonymous said...

By the way the 1946 nickel is much thicker than my 1995 one.. Anything on it?

Man said...

1946 nickel is much thicker than my 1995

It should be the same but the only way to know is to weigh it it should around 5.00 grams.

There is a rare error called "Rolled thick planchet" which in a 1944 nickel is about 20% overweight and sells for about $400.00 in high grades.
I've never seen a 1946 but it can exist it would weigh close to 6.00 grams.

You need to weigh it with a fine scale with at least 0.01 grams of precision.

Sorry, I had the wrong dates on the latter 3.

German 5 marks was 1934
2 marks was '39
and the Morgan dollar was 1921
it was encased in a plastic collectors set thingie.

I also dug up around 20 Canadian 50 cent pieces dating 1942 through 1966

Thanks

German
5 marks 1934
There are 15 or more varieties.
The ones with a second date of 1933 are about $10.00.
The ones with a just 1934 are about $5.00.
The one with a mans head is about $150.00

2 marks 1939
All are about $2.50 except for the 1939-E which is $15.00

Morgan dollar was 1921
Not a proof but if it's untouched and at least in mint state it is about $30.00

20 Canadian 50 cent pieces dating 1942 through 1966
1946, 1947, 1948, 1949 are the key dates there are many varieties going from about $5.00 to $1,000.00 in low grades.
The rest are only about $4.50 mostly for the silver value.

Sorry it should say 1759-1934, Sriedich Schiller.

Yours is not a true 1934 if it says 1847-1934 on the reverse is the true date 1935, 1936, 1937, 1938, or 1939.
The mintmark is next the front date.
These are worth in the $4.00 and up range.

Italian 100 lire 1955.

The image is bad, very dark so I can't judge condition. That said I see no damage or scratches but it has not been certified and is not in a holder. I'll guess either XF(extra-fine) or UNC(uncirculated).

Italy 100 Lire
1955R
Mintage: 8,600,000
Stainless Steel
XF = $50.00
UNC = $185.00

This coin is not rare but in high grades it hard to find. If this coin has a scratch or fingerprint then that drops it down to at least fine = $1.00.

I would request better pictures before I bought it.

The coin is from Libya the date is actual written in Arabic it is 1952. O is a 5 and the backwards 7 is 2.

It's a copper-nickel coin and 10,000,000 were made so the value is about $0.35 in very-fine.

Head side says liberty on top, in God we trvst going through the middle and date on bottom. It has a woman facing left with her hair up. The back has an eagle facing right and it says US of A E.Pluribus unum. Peace at the bottom. The dates are 1923, 1924, and 1928.
Another one I have is a woman facing left with a liberty crown on. There are stars all around the edge except where it says E.Pluribus.Unum. The back has an eagle with spread wings, USof A, in God we trust and One Dollar. The dates are 1880, 1885, and 1921. Is there a certain year that is worth the most?

1933 20 lire coin mounted as a medal, do you know why this may have been done?

I'm assuming this is an Italian coin. It would be mounted because it is a rare coin.

In uncirculated it's about $4,000.00.

As far as I know the edge has no lettering. The rim should have dots but the edge should be blank.

Hello, I've got a 1920 2 Lire coin I can't find any info about. It has Vittorio Emanvele III Re D Italia on the back and the front has a picture of some sort of pole with an axe next to it.

This coin does not exist.
The 2 Lire went from 1917 then 1923 skipping all the years in between.

Reexamine the date carefully.

1966 $100 dollar bill, red writing, serial # *00008132A. no writing, no creases.

About $1,000.00 if it can be graded higher than CU it easily can go for $2,000 or more.

Anonymous said...

Wow, that was fast.! Forgive me,I am new to collecting. How would I get it graded? What is CU? And where would I be able to sell the bill?

Thanks again!

Anonymous said...

I believe that my bill can be graded at About Uncirculated (AU). I obtained this bill when I worked for a bank. I have found the information about grading a bill on the internet.

Thanks again for the info!

Man said...

How would I get it graded?
Go to PCGS.com they are the best in my opinion.

What is CU?
Crisp-uncirculated it would have no folds, tears, or stains. It would feel crisp like if it was new.

And where would I be able to sell the bill?
EBay or Heritage Currency or even on coin forums directly to a collector. Depends on how much you want to spend in selling.

I see you found some other info but I still answered in case someone else needs to know.

Unfortunately that is not enough information, any writing would help or if you can't understand the letters a region like Asia, India, or Arab.

1963 which are in glass case (Quarter, Dime, Nickel and Penny) are worth anything

They should be in a plastic case, but someone may have opened a Proof or Mint set and put them in glass. If this is the case it may be around $10.00 in high grade.

If they are just normal then it's about $3.00.

Not a die error just a clad coin. Unfortunately I can not say where it's from without a more detailed description or picture.

1915 ww1 war medallion struck in homour of our boys at the dardanelles wa coin
This is either British or more likely Australian War Medal they average about $45.00 in extra-fine.

one dollar gaming token from ceasers palace in las vegas any idea what this is worth its a big coin looks like silver
Again without a good description or picture it's hard to say but non-silver ones go for about $5 while silver ones are just bullion value.

new zealand
1953 crown about $5.00
1949 one penny about $0.20

1967 two cent piece rare and whats it value
I'm sorry I didn't clarify.
This one is rare piece has the front with no date and the Bahamas Island instead of New Zealand, the back is normal New Zealand. About $8.00 in very-fine. It has been found in the change of both New Zealand and the Bahamas less then 50,000 are thought to exist.

There is normal 1967 2 cent worth just $0.03 in fine.

same with the 50cent
Again there is a normal at less than face value but a variety exist.
If there is a dot above the number 1 it's about $5.00 in very-fine. This is more common at 750,000 but still a key piece.

1951 flatback florin
I know from 1946-1949 flatbacks sell for more but 1951 is less sought after and average about $4.00 in very-fine.

Hi. I have what I think is a Bulgarian or Russian medal/coin (Cyrillic characters). It has two guys in robes in the front with an 863-1963 date and a 10 AEBA in the back. It came in a display case with a flag pin (which is why I think it's a medal or commemorative token). Do you have any info on it? Thanks in advance.

It's a Bulgarian 10 Leva coin that marks the 1100th anniversary of the Slavic alphabet.
It should be gold and only 7,000 were made. It's about $250.00.

hey, thanks for the quick reply. yeah, at first i assumed it was gold but there isn't a lot of heft to it in relation to its size (like a nickel) which makes me think it might be a replica/fake. anyway thanks again for the help!

If real it should weigh 8.4444 grams if possible carefully, with cotton glove, remove it form it's case and weigh it.

do you think that it would be wise to get some of those Bills Cirtified?
I have a Black book but the numbers are kinda non-realistic. need to invest in the green sheets.
I have so many bills. unc's in barr notes. circs in barr. error notes just like to collect them and look at them.. But I need a Cheif bill. and a Martha bill, bison, porthole ect. you know the fun ones.

If your into trading, collecting, and the bragging rights then your a Professional collector and should start certifying.

The grey and green sheets for coins and currency are great but in my opinion if your not selling graded money then it's not worth it.

It seems that you're on the verge of becoming serious collector if so then upgrading to the sheets and grading is correct. Finding older notes is difficult but with your large collection you can trade with others who have the sheets and graded notes, if you have the same.

I have a wheat penny, but I don't know the date of it. It is a mistake. It has the same stamp on both sides. It has the "ONE CENT" with the wheat stamped on both sides. The stamps are about 1/4 turn off relative to each other. I have pics of it as well. It is an older coin. Do you have any idea when these mistakes were made and/or what they are worth? Do you know if there is any known amount that were made?

This is a fake these are magician's coin. Thousands have been found and all have been known to be fake. Only one two tailed coin was found it was a quarter.

If you still think it's real then take it to a dealer and have it verified in hand because pictures are not good enough.

And i also wanted to where i could sell my coins??? ( besides ebay )

Man said...

1963 silver canadian dollar

About $8.18 mostly for silver content.

Anywhere where they buy silver this coin can be sold but metal buyers often pay 80% of the real value so it sells for about $7.00.
You now know the true melt value is just $8.18 so the dollar loss is up to you to accept.

I do not like saying eBay as an answer but you can get full value or more but I do understand the auctions are a hassle.

I don't know what you mean.
There is a real silver quarter from the US Mint direct from the government and a full collection is about $250.00.

If this is a silver plated set from some private mint it is probably less then $25.00 for the collection.

I don't know if you got my first post but is a 1934D Boston District $50 star note, circulated and in very good conditions. The numbers are A00041048. How many were printed and how much could it be worth. I know they are rare. Should I keep or sell?.

It is not known how many were printed but some were between 20,000 and 45,000.
It's about $1,200.00 if you are good at selling, auctions, or eBay then go ahead and sell it. Over the next few years it will increase in value since they are constantly changing the $50 design.
