Holey Coins Man

Do you have an altered coins and want to know its value? Leave a comment/question and I will do my best to find out the price and history for you.

Years ago I found these two quarters in my change on different days. These "holey" coins were drilled to make jewelry. Notice where the holes are positioned.

These machine drilled coins hold no value for collector, yet people still collect these coins for fun.
Obviously I found them in my change so they were used for face value.

Quarters are most often found drilled because they are big enough to drill and small enough to where like a charm.

Often they are also dipped in a gold coloring to have more appeal.

Be aware that these are altered coins and are perfectly legal to alter and own as long as your not trying to pass it as an original"holed" coin from the mint.

Some alterations I've seen have pictures etched into the coin or state names. I can't wait to find one of those in my change.

Do you have an altered coins and want to know its value? Leave a comment/question and I will do my best to find out the price and history for you.

19 dollars worth, for Comments/Questions click here.:

would you buy a $1000 for a couple hundred dollars if you didn't know if it was real or not?

I assume you're talking about a thousand dollar bill.

No I wouldn't most $1000 would sell for at least $100 over face value so unless the seller thinks it's fake and you know it's real I would stay away.

I have a 1998 nickel with 2 holes and a third attempted hole. I have been wearing it as a necklace for a while now. One hole is in Jefferson's head, the other is in the back of his head near the ponytail. The third attempted hole is in his eye!!! Anything you can tell me about it??

There is not much to say. Anyone with a drill can do this so keep wearing it as necklace.

It would have no value as a collectible.

No value, it's just damage.

Likely from Wisconsin this is as much a political memorabilia as anything.
They have local value but commonly show up in change. Someone would have to do a historical search on the guy to assess value but most political coin go for $2.00 unless the guy was famous or infamous.

So tell me Man, which coins with holes in them DO have a value greater than their face value? Also I received a 1902 penny in my change at a burger joint! It has an Indian head on the front and wheat on the back and is in great condition? Any idea how much this is worth/how rare it is? ---Also I have a quarter from 1963, nothing unusual about it except the way it sounds when you drop it on the counter---compared to other quarters. Was this year's quarter made of something different than all the rest? The sound it makes is higher pitched and I would say the quarter feels heavier. Any idea?

Anything rare, maybe from the 1700s or something similar. Errors that make perfect holes are extremely rare and usually involve foreign coins or tokens.

1902 penny
About $4.50 87,374,704 were made so they are very common.

quarter from 1963
This quarter is silver unlike our current copper-nickel coins. It's about $2.00.
1963 weigh 6.25 grams and
2008 weighs 5.67 grams the fact you can feel the difference is amazing, very cool.

No extra value.
I have found 3 of these and it's both common and just considered damaged.

i found a 1976 s quarter in a roll i know this coin wasn't intended for circulation but it was spent somehow this coin is in great shape it still has some unscratched spots between letters and the year and minor scracthes on the sides.barley worn you can see washingtons hair lines the reverse too is in great shape just the ridge lost its pink luster but not worn. it has no silver

Man said...

1976 s quarter...it has no silver

About $0.75 maybe less since this was supposed to be a proof and it loses value if circulated.

It's a 2007 D Montana quarter that has 'freaks are given a free pass' machine stamped on the reverse; seems that's a Montana thing AND I'm guessing that doesn't affect the value one way or the other.
