1960 Nickel

Wow this nickel is over 50 years old so it must be worth a lot. I mean it does not even look like the Jefferson on my modern nickel.

Oh no it is just five cents but it is soooo old. Plus metal value is just about four cents, well that is a shame.

I will not be saving many of these unless they are in high grade with sharp details. They are kind of a waste of space bit if you are doing a out-of-pocket collection at least keep two. It took a while to find a 1960 nickel and these are not rare. I can not stress enough that new collectors should start going through their change as I suspect the next few years will bring major changes to coins in the U.S.

Here's the stats...
Type/Country: 5 Cents/United States
Year: 1960
Mintage: 55,416,000
Metal: 75% Copper 25% Nickel
Value: $0.05 in G-4

Do you have a nickel and want to know its value? Leave a comment/question and I will do my best to find out the price and history for you.

10 dollars worth, for Comments/Questions click here.:

What do you mean by "Major changes"?

Yea I always go through any change I get and have already managed to get: A complete Australian circulated commemorative 1 dollar collection, An almost complete circulated Australian 50 cent commemorative coin collection (only mussing 4) and a far from completed Australian commemorative 20 cent coin collection (missing about 10+)
All the coins in these collections I have picked up in circulation from the period of mid way through 2011- now.
Recently I got given some foreign notes from my grandpas travels (they are from countries where the notes are worth next to nothing in exchange but o well)

1st October 2007 Hong Kong 10 dollar note
Serial: LS304113 (vf)

1 Ringgit Malaysia (polymer
Serial: CB1910804 (vf)

Another 1 Ringgit note but paper.
Serial: ACS7659529 (f)

1991 5000 Dong Vietnam: (paper)
Serial: CM 0695195 (unc)

1988 2000 Dong Vietnam (paper)
Serial: LE 5321881 (ef)

2 1000 dong Vietnam 1988 (paper)
serials: NF 0578070 and GC 8743282

10 DOng Vietnam in Poor condition (Polymer)
Serial :SI 06878439

2 2005 20 yuan notes (both vf) (paper)
Serials: GF 90869112 and GG 62517562

Two dollars New Zealand (good) (paper)

Serial: 2Y5 755048

1 Um Real Brazil (f)
Serial: A3926027321 C

Now this is a sort of weird one: 1000 Mille Francs (also says Republique Francaise and i know that is France but it has some Hawaiian theme on it with an islander lady)
Serial: X.045 52280 (it also says "institut D'emission D'outre-mer" on the other side in the top middle)

Now for some notes closer to home: I have three 2001 Australian 5 dollar notes ( The centenary of federation special issue ones)
The serials are:
AA01761578 (ef)
AG01960344 (f)
DD01554283 (vf)

I also have a 1988 commemorative 10 dollar note (Australia) that was the first polymer note printed in the world (according to the fact sheet it came with) and is in a slip on a card with information about the note and then that goe into a folder.
The serial is:
AA 14099231
My dad gave it to me after his dad gave it to him who sadly died from cancer.
I would also like to know two things: do you have any Australian notes and (this is more important)
What was your favourite coin during you CHILDHOOD of coin collecting?

What do you mean by "Major changes"?

Metal change of some coins followed by the elimination of certain coins like the halves.

Then soon after the end of cents then nickels.

Assuming a fiscal conservative enters the White House.

--Wow 2 years and you got all those coins.

Rechecked all those notes and yes all just have exchange value, still a nice collection.

--French Pacific Territories (FBT) or New Caledonia
About $30.00 for FBT
About $60.00 for NC

2001 Australian 5 dollar notes ( The centenary of federation special issue ones)
The serials are:
AA01761578 (ef) about $10.00
AG01960344 (f) about $5.00
DD01554283 (vf) about $10.00

--About $35.00

do you have any Australian notes
--Just one this $5 note.

What was your favourite coin during you CHILDHOOD of coin collecting?
--wheat cent, those are the U.S. cents from 1909-1958. They just seemed so old that finding them was like look into the past.

DId a quick google images check and the FPT and NC 1000 Mille franks appear to be the same. How can I tell the difference?

I think it is signatures, the FPT signatures are from 1996 and the NC is older.

COuld you tell me the signatures to differentiate? It doesnt really matter if you dont know I'm just happy to know that there I have a nite that is worth more then 10 dollars! :D

Never mind the person who gave them to me (my grandpa) and he got them in tahiti so its the FPT.

The more common one is still a nice note.
