Australian Currency

Do you have Australian money and want to know its value? Leave a comment

Finally the issues with Blogger have been solved and I can stop using my alter ego MC, he's not as fun.

This was kindly given by a tourist having trouble paying at the register at a big city store and I was gifted with this nice Australian five dollar note. It is one of the few foreign notes I've gotten in over a decade.

Australian currency is the definition of "funny money". It is brightly colored, has lots of designs, and is made of plastic.

Plastic money or polypropylene polymer banknotes are not new to the currency world but this is the first time I ever had one. It doesn't feel as fake as I thought plastic money would feel mainly because it has texture. The bill has raised features which gives it depth and a good grip.

The front has Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, eucalyptus leaves, and a gum flower on a transparent window. The back has Parliament House, the landscape plans for that house, and some neat patterns.

There is a lot of security features like micro-printing, dual side printing to create one image, and a few other things common to most modern notes.

Type/Country: 5 Dollars / Australia
Year: 2003A
Printings: 114,000,000 (badly estimated)
Run: ???
Value: $6.00 in VF, it has a fold and this is more of the currency exchange rate

Great video although I have to find the original source.

Do you have any notes or bills from Australia and want to know their value? Leave a comment/question and I will do my best to find out the price and history for you.

I have a U.S. $10 bill, which I haven't seen in a very long time. Is this worth anything? It's a series 1995, and just seems very old. Is this worth anything?

Just $10.00 it would take another 30 years before it has any real value.

Hello, wonderful site...I thank you in advance for any help. I have an uncirculated $5.00 which has a front offset, dramatic (black L seal for San Francisco is in the portrait). This bill is from 1974, and serial # is L 90496780 C. I also have the bill preceeding it (779) and the bill after it (781), which are both normal. I was vault teller when these bills arrived from the Main Vault. As I was counting them, #780 jumped out at me! Needless to say, I called in my supervisor and bought them. Do you have an idea on their value, and where should I sell them? Thanks in advance, Bryn

Sorry I posted the above in the wrong catagory, lame I know, but hey I'm a 58 year old grandmother so cut me alittle slack.

Sounds like a Misaligned Overprint error about $1,200.00

Also there are no categories on this blog so feel free to post anywhere.

Thanks for the info on my uncirculated $5.00 Misaligned overprint. I'll be looking into finding a buyer instead of saving it. Thanks again! Bryn

Try Heritage auctions or eBay.

If you try a local coin shop they may offer half the listed amount.

Thanks again, I'll check out Heritage..I've been talking w/ebay coin boards and they said Heritage might be good, too. Thanks, Bryn

It is from 1975-1977 and in new crisp condition it's about $20.00 but if it was circulated and folded then about $2.00.

hi, i recently asked about 8 and 5 running order first prefix uncirculated $1 notes Johnstone Stone, may i ask why $2.50 per note value you gave please, when i have just found out $125 for them each, is that correct? and if so, why only $2.50 per note? thanks for your time.

Not being an Australian currency expert I see nothing special about these notes. Listed in every book I own and checking current auction values shows nothing special.

If you point out your other source for $125 maybe that would update my info and help other in the future.

Here is another Australian currency site. They list actual value that notes are sold for...
