misprint canadian $5 bill, it's got the shiny maple leafs but not the bar on the face side or the broken bar on the hockey side. Series 2002, serial number HNV1920401. Not in very good condition

It sound like some missing printing error, but I'm not familiar with this one. In that condition it would be about $20.00 or less.

That does not change anything, it is still at the value stated before and unfortunately I've not located anything similar to compare.

I have an 1890 indian head penny. Really good shape. you can read and visibly see everything. to sell it i have found out dealers will give you 1.00. But how much is it worth?

Man said...

1890 indian head penny. Really good shape

It's about $3.50 if you want to buy it.

But the seller price is $1.00.

This is why eBay is popular for coins, it is one of the few places you can sell it for closer to $3.50.

I have two mint $10 bills series 1950, serial numbers B25999480B and B25999481B. When I was in a casino in the carribean they the slot machines wouldnt take them so I brought them to a cashier who using a pen said they were fake. Could this be because there were no security features then? If so would they be worth anything? No creases, never circulated.

Man said...

mint $10 bills series 1950, serial numbers B25999480B and B25999481B.

Money that old often fails the security tests. Very few $10 bills are faked it is not worth it to counterfeiters.

That said there are a couple of varieties if you can tell me the back number it would narrow the price but they average about $12.00 each.

I have several coins that read "one Penny" On one side there appears a charioteer or knight in a sitting position and on the other side it reads victoria DC Britt REG F D. It is dated 1877. It is quite worn but is interesting.

I also have a coin from Cuba. It appears to be silver and is dated 1915.It has a star on one side and a shield on the other. Can you tell me if they have any value? Thank you. Delia

"one Penny" On one side there appears a charioteer or knight in a sitting position and on the other side it reads victoria DC Britt REG F D. It is dated 1877.
About $4.00 for the large date and about $100.00 for the small date. You need an expert to tell the difference but if extremely worn that the date is barely visible then just $1.00.

coin from Cuba. It appears to be silver and is dated 1915.It has a star on one side and a shield on the other.
I would need to know the denomination or any other words on the coin.

Man said...

1950 $10 bill series D serial number C51126788. How you ascertain it's value?

Start with condition, if the bill has any folds or dirt it is very-fine.
No folds and crisp means uncirculated.

Then looking at recent auctions, popularity reports from grading websites, and traditional book values you can fairly estimate the value.

But you must keep in mind this is a seller price not the buyers price.

In very-fine your bill is about $12.50.

1964 and 1959 silver quarters d series.
Each is about $4.00.

1963 and 64 silver dimes
Each is about $1.80.

1942 mercury dime almost perfect
Assume MS-65 which is a high mint state it's about $30.00 but it must be graded.

1936 buffalo nickel about $9.00

Nickel
1903 about $55.00
1904 about $55.00
1905 about $55.00
1906 about $55.00
1907 about $55.00
1911 about $45.00

I'm assuming near mint, with no scratches, no fingerprints, no marks, no discolorations. Full luster, sharp details, no verdigirs.

This is obsolete currency. Any money from the Civil War error is no longer legal, they were made by millions and most are not rare. Some are extremely rare and worth thousands but the average of what you described is low.

To see if you have a true rarity you would need an expert or a book specifically for this type of money. Unfortunately I'm not obsessed with these notes and only know the basic low common values. That said the date you gave is a common type I know well.

The collectors also prefer high uncirculated grades. So If this was CU(crisp-uncirulated) it may be $150.00.

Google "obsolete currency" and the first link will show you prices and photos. Compare yours maybe it's worth a little more but the prices are slightly high because these are sellers trying to earn a profit. Some are $30 some are $400 but the photos show how grade is issued.

It is possible your bill is a higher grade than I am giving it.

Hello I just found a 1811 large cent penny in my uncles box. Can you tell me what it is worth or anything about it. I was shocked of it large size. thanks Moe

Man said...

1811 large cent penny

These are known as Classic Head Cents and were made of an inferior copper mix, because of this it is tough to find in high grades.

For 1811 there are two varieties:
1811 with the 1 stamped over a faint 0 is about $85.00 in good.

1811 normal date about $100.00 in good.

Again the better quality or condition the higher the value.

Hello. Someone close died recently and I have quite a collection of coins to sell. I'm just not sure how to go about selling them without getting ripped off. Any ideas?

Thanks

Man said...

I have quite a collection of coins to sell. I'm just not sure how to go about selling them without getting ripped off.

First is to find out what you have and make a list for your records.
If mostly U.S. coins you can borrow/buy the Red Book by Yeoman or get a current issue of a coin magazine to see the values.
World coins may take a bit more work but getting the book is key.

Selling them to dealers or privately is only recommended if these coins are graded and you are willing to except 10% to 50% of book value.
All dealers are different and some are not trusted but always expect to get less then what you would pay.

Ebay or coin forums are you only true choices online.

Hello! I have read your post and have noticed you say that on some bills the value depends on the number on the back. What does that mean? Is there a general number rule? 1934 $20 J Series Kansas City, Missouri Reserve Bank, J23359283A. On the back it has the number 352 in the corner.

The back number is the plate number and sometimes the wrong plate is used. Meaning a plate with a small plate number is matched with a front plate that has a larger plate number and these are known as mules.

Yours is a mule but it's common worth about $25.00.

Man said...

By larger or smaller I'm referring to font size not the actual digit.

Wow! You are awesome! You really know your stuff. You do a great service taking your time helping others. I understood what you said about the plate. It's cool knowing a bit of history about the bill. I think I will hold onto it just for the history factory. Again, thank you!

PART 2

This very rare silver 1p coin

could be worth up to

tens of thousands of pounds

thanks to its peculiar colouring.

Unwittingly handed over to Tania Simmonite at the market stall where she sells cheese,

the coin appears to have been released into circulation

without undergoing the usual copper-plating process.

Worth thousands:

The silver penny somehow escaped the coppering process, making it incredibly rare.

Precious penny:

Tania Simmonite's granddaughter Amy Baker holds the

very rare silver 1p piece that is set to earn her grandmother thousands

After finding it in her till,

Mrs Simmonite, 69, contacted the Royal Mint who confirmed it was a genuine monetary unit.

And since a 20p coin without a date mark on its surface was sold earlier this month for £10,000

,this could receive an even higher price because of its scarcity.

Only if those are the 00000666.
Since billions of bills are made only if a number repeats five times or more is there a small premium.

1985 Penny with a stamp imprint of bugs bunnys head in front of lincolns face.

This was probably done at Warner Brothers Studio for tourist. It has no real value, maybe for Bugs Bunny collectors but anyone can make these with a special cutter.

How much is a 1947 nickle worth? This one is double stamped. It has a ridge or"rim" to it.

No such thing only 1993 or 1996, either way neither will gain value over the the next 50 years.

About $10.00 it is still fairly common although the ones with a Rasminsky signature have a $12.50 value in very-fine.

1944 misprinted nickel plated wheat penny

No such thing.

What you may have is a plated cent made outside the mint worth nothing.

Or it could be a valuable error, this has to be weighed to know for sure.

Howdy,
I recently found what I believe to be a Brockage error in my pocket change. It is a 1979 penny, and the error appears on the front. The interesting thing (as least to me) is that not only is the error clear and sharp (you can easily read the "E Pluribus Unum" in reverse, and you can see part of the Lincoln monumnet), but also the error seems to be concave rather than convex (indented rather than raised). I don't know if this is what it should look like or not as I have never seen one of these before. You can clearly see Lincolns bust through the error, as well as the "L" in "Liberty". All lettering and the date are clear, as is the bust, although the coin is dirty. I was not able to insert links to photos of the coin, nor to insert photos. If you send me an email address I can email you photos. I would like your opinions and thoughts about this coin (i.e. rarity, value, etc.)
Thank you

Brockage error in my pocket change...1979 penny

Great description that is exactly what Brockage is it's about $35.00.

Most Brockage is rare and if perfectly centered then it is worth more.

Although it may be $40 to grade it you may want to consider this if you are positive it is not a man-made fake.

me said...

Thank you. I'm pretty sure it's not a fake, but I don't know if I want to spend $40 to grade a $35 coin. It is interesting though, and thank you very much. I love your blog, and I promise not to ask about steel pennies!

I have a 1934a $500 note in absolutely perfect condition, and anothone one that has a crease in the middle and just looks very old and worn, but still has decent corners on it and no pinholes or tears. do you know how much each is worth today?

Depends on serial number but in very-fine about $800.00, in choice crisp-uncirculated about $1,600.00.

Serial numbers can change the value a lot.

Can you explain the difference between a 'type 1' & 'type 2' SBA? I have tried on my own- I am new to collecting (books are ordered). I have read some stuff about the talons blob/no blob & the wide/thin rim. I still do not have a clear understanding. I have several SBA's & would like to determine if I have anything worth more than face value. I greatly appreciate your knowledge & expertise- Thanks! MsBright.

Type 1 & 2 for SBA refer to the "S" mintmark on Proof coins.
It depends on the year to determine whether it is filled, not-filled, or flat. These are not the coins found in circulation.

What you maybe talking about is the 1979-P Narrow rim or Wide rim.

The 1979 Narrow rim (Far Date) has a larger gap between the 1979 and the rim, the rim is also thin.
The 1979 Wide rim (Near Date) has a small gap between the 1979 and the rim, it is almost touching the thicker rim.

Here is a good SBA LINK.

to whom it may concern,

I was going through a roll of pennys and found a 1958d the same weight and size of a roosevelt dime. I can't send a pic because my camera won't get close enough for detail. however, the l in liberty is missing because it appears not to have had enough room. also, the back is in excellent shape except for e pluribus unum which is pushed up into the edge partially. It does not appear to be a shrunken cent but rather stamped on a dime planchett. Have you ever seen or know an approximate value or where may I go to get it looked at for authenticity?

I have a US 1981 $5 that has the reverse ink printed on the front. It appears to be the miror image, but is not a bleed through. It appears that the bill thet was printed prior to the one I have, may have had excess ink and transferred to the fromt of my bill. However, the detail of the error seems good as it could have been actually reversed printed. Is this collectable and if so what is the aproximate value? is this rare. I have scanned the bill and can send a .pdf thanks.
