Finally I Got A Star

Do you have an star note and want to know its value? Leave a comment/question and I will do my best to find out the price and history for you.

While I'm happy so many people are finding star notes it has been a while since I got one. Mostly since I hardly use cash anymore.

Then on September 25 I got this bill in my change. It is a 2003A F-Atlanta series star note.

The back is normal as you can tell.

The star note is a replacement note used by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing when a defect or error is found on the regular run of notes. There is no replacement of specific serial number instead they replace blocks of notes with the newest star notes. Since less then 1% of notes need replacement star notes are scarce.

Still they are not rare since they are printed by the hundred thousand or million. They are printed in runs of a specific amount and the lower the run the more it is worth to collectors.
  • Less than 320,000 printed is lowest.
  • Exactly 320,000 printed is very-low.
  • Between 320,000 and 640,000 is low.
  • Exactly 640,000 is medium.
  • More than 640,000 is high and normal.

Type/Country: 1 Dollar/United States
Year: 2003A
Printings: 3,200,000
Run: 4th from F09600001* - F12800000*
Value: $2.50 in VF

It has plenty of folds and is probably worth less then listed, but that is true with most collectibles.

Do you have currency and want to know its value? Leave a comment/question and I will do my best to find out the price and history for you.

1663 dollars worth, for Comments/Questions click here.:

hi, i recently found 2 packs of $5 star notes in consecutive order (100 notes for $500)
I was wondering if you could tell me how much they were worth bc i'm thinking about buying them. they are uncirculated crisp from the vault.

About $20.00 each these were among the last 2003 series $5, many have been found in high grades.
That said it had a low printing of 640,000.

It is hard to decide it is a low run but the market is flooded with these in high grades.

As an investment maybe.
A quick sell maybe not.

Follow up regarding a question from a while back ... is there anyone actually looking to collect (pay for) a $100 bill worth $110? Or should I just spend it to end the suspense?

Greatest question for all to read.

Unless you're an eBay expert or own a coin shop it is better to spend the bill.

I have paid people in real life $0.05 for a $0.03 coin. But I'm a collector if you know a collector in real life that may also help.

I have a large $5.00 bill. Upper Left corner is a Roman numeral V. Below this is a picture of Andrew Jackson. In the center of bill a picture bearing a woman, man & dog. Series of 1907. Seal is in red. Serial # M16705506(here is a little design in red at end of number.) There is an F in the lower right corner and a # I believe it is 801 or 803 almost to small to see. It also says on face of bill ACT OF MARCH 3rd 1863. It has 2 small nicks on the corner. It has 3 or 4 folds in it. Do you know what this might be worth? It's in good shape.

Hi, could you tell me the value of a $10.00 star bill series 2004 with serial number GL 06471811, and also a $1.00 star bill, series 2006 with serial number B06051947. I got both in some change at the same time, what are the chances of that?

It means that at some point during the production of the $100 notes some had to be destroyed and replaced with these star notes.
Depending full serial number and year it may be valuable above the face value.

I went to a movie theater today... paid for tix and got 4 2006 $1 star notes in sequence. Asked if I could buy more, and got another 50 or so- all in sequence. I saw by the total wad (and also after asking the kid), that the entire pack of 100 bills came direct from the bank that day. Unfortunately I could not afford to buy any more.

What do you estimate the value to be on this as a lot? The serial numbers range from F 05880905- F05880962. Any idea would be most appreciated.

Also, would you recommend selling smaller lots, or the entire bunch at once?

Lastly, what condition would you grade these in? Obviously there wasnt much use from the bank to cashier to me.

Thanks so much for your time and advice

2006 $1 star notes...F 05880905* - F05880962*

Probably would grade crisp-uncirculated (CU) but not sure without handling them.

These are more common they're about $5.00 each in CU.

Selling them in lots of 5 or 10 would be the best way but again these are common. I've seen them on eBay at $2.00 each.

i have a 1$ 1988A serial B99795227B in vg condition.i have come to find out that high serial numbers over 96 million were sold from the bep for collectors in sheets.would this note be of any value other then a buck having such a high serial?its margins are terrible and its bascially a rag but it still looks cool with such a high number but wondered if they would have any extra value.thank so much for the help.

Indeed this came from an uncut sheet but it does not have a higher value unless it is in perfect condition after being cut. If perfect it would only be about $4.00 or slightly more but few collectors want these since they prefer the whole sheet.

For your I ould guess $1.50 but never seeing one sold it is hard to be exact.

I assumed a grade of very fine for all bills if crisp-uncirculated then just double the values for all but the $100 thos have little extra value in high grades.

so where can i go to trade them. can i go to the bank and exchange the different on the value.

The values listed are collector's value.
Meaning only other collectors will want to pay extra for these.

Selling them on eBay or on a currency forum or at a local coin dealer.

Hi, I have a 1950 $50.00 bill D series, serial number D13193706A. It is circulated but in good condition, sharp corners, one slight fold down the middle, the back is dirty. I have another 1950 $50.00 bill C series with a star, serial number D00856750. It has a slight fold down the middle but other than that it is crisp, like new. What are these worth? Thanks for your help!

I have an uncirculated 2006 $1.00 bill with a star. SN F00157977. On the back of the bill under the "ONE" George Washington's shirt is bleeding through looking like light fingerprints. I also have uncirculated 2006 $1.00 bills where two of the numbers on the left hand serial number are lower than the rest and George is bleeding through the back. All of these bills came together with sequencial serial numbers. Are they of any value? Thanks!

Minor offset error no extra value, The bill is about $50.00.

uncirculated 2006 $1.00 bills where two of the numbers on the left hand serial number are lower than the rest and George is bleeding through the back.
This sounds like a Stuck Digit error it's about $20.00 if it can be verified but that may cost more than it's worth.

Odd since the policy of the Feds is to replace errors. I'm not sure if the stamp would increase the value but for some collectors it might.
Your bill has been verified so it should be at least $250.00 but $1,000.00 is in the range.

It would be nice to see.
