More Cents than a Penny

Do you have a foreign coin and want to know its value? Leave a comment/question and I will do my best to find out the price and history for you.

So in the last days of September I found these two coins in my change. One is an Austrian 2 Euro Cents and the other is a Canadian cent. What's the significance? Well around the same time the Canadian Dollar beat the U.S. dollar.

As you may already know the Euro has been outperforming the U.S. for a while.
Today the currency exchange rate is
$1.00 to $0.94 for the Canadian Dollar
$1.00 to $1.47 for the Euro Dollar

Well even without the exchange prices there is still the numismatic values.

Here are the stats...
Type/Country: 2 Euro Cents/Austria
Year: 2004
Mintage: 156,500,000
Metal: Copper Plated Steel
Value: $0.25 in UNC(although this one look less.)

Type / Country: 1 Cent / Canada
Year: 2005
Mintage: 759,658,000
Metal: Bronze-Plated Zinc
Value: $0.10 in MS-60(again this one look less.)

Never heard of this error but any Off-Metal Canadian coins sell for about $500.00 in uncirculated.
It needs to be verified.

Anonymous said...

And how could a coin be verified?
I'm sorry to ask but haven't found any informations on your blog and I am clueless.

Man said...

And how could a coin be verified?
It must be sent to a grading agency like PCGS or NGC or ANACS.
A Google search will lead you to the and how to submit.

Never heard of this one.
Other 25 pesetas range from 1875-1885 and average $300.00.

I suspect this is an 1881 and it's about $150.00 because these are the most common and I've come across these before.

If there is an S under the date it may be a proof worth about $3.00. But it may just be a very high grade normal and it would just be $0.10 at most.

Canadian coins? I assume cents.
1981 about $0.01
1973 about $0.02
1981 about $0.01
2005 about $0.01
1976 about $0.02

Assuming U.S. it is at most $0.03 but these are very common so most likely just $0.01.

Old in coin terms is 100+ years. Modern coins are any coins after 1965.

I found a roll of uncirculated 1962 Canadian pennies that belonged to my dad who dabbled in stamps and coins. On the roll he wrote "1962 dot". I cannot find in my research what dot he means. Where is it located and does it add extra value to the penny?

He would have loved your site

Thanks

roll of uncirculated 1962 Canadian pennies that belonged to my dad who dabbled in stamps and coins. On the roll he wrote "1962 dot"

I have never personally seen this variety but I heard about it.
Dots would be 1 before the neck and 2 on the right of the shoulder.
Also a variety has a dot in between the 9 and 6 at the bottom of the numbers.

These are all in dispute and could be die breaks but some sell from $5.00 to $40.00 to certain Canadian collectors. In the U.S. most collectors don't bother.

My French is not good but check this site maybe they can help with further research Numicanada Varieties.

It sounds like your describing something else if you get a good picture and post it on a free photo site that would be helpful.

I looked it up and it's a 1967 British Penny. I read it was the last year they made the pennies like that because they changed over their decimal system. Now, is this coin real? Why would there be an old british penny inside my us half dollar? I can't find any information about it.

I have a 1988 $1 bill that looks like it was folded in half while the ink on the front was wet. Is it a printing error and do you know what it would be worth.

1988 $1 bill that looks like it was folded in half while the ink on the front was wet.

This could be a partial offset error or ink transfer but it sounds odd possibly a fake.

Assuming it's real it's about $20.00.

It was passed down from my fathers collection and was wondering what kind of set this would be and its worth. Thanks

green box set with "coins of ireland"
This is not an official set.

Assuming these coins are uncirculated...if not uncirculated they are worth much less.

1/2 crown 1955 about $25.00
florin 1955 about $15.00
shilling 1955 about $15.00
6 pence 1956 about $15.00
3 pence 1956 about $8.00
penny 1952 about $25.00
1/2 penny 1953 about $5.00
farthing 1953 about $3.00

Again if anything less then shiny uncirculated divide the values by 10.

This could be an error but it sounds more like damage.
Try weighing it and getting good images, if you have a local dealer ask them if they think could be an error.

Without a denomination it is difficult to give value, that said a most French coins from 1853 are just a few dollars ($1-$10).

Hello, i have a 1944( no mintmark) australian florin, but the rim on both sides are raised alot! i cant find anything like it on the net. ive see them with out raised rims though

Man said...

About $7.00 the raised rim means nothing as far as I know. This may just be a very sharp coin, it could be a slight die cap error but unless it is extreme and distorts the coin it has no extra value.
