1999 Australia 5 Cents

Have an Australian coin and want to know its value? Leave a comment/question

Continuing with the best week for nickel finds I got this with four more Canadians, yet to be pictured, all at the same time when I said "Yes, I do accept Canadian from a busy cashier." This is the second time finding a 1999 Australian nickel but first time posting. No surprise it is the most common of the 20th Century Australian nickels.

That is an Echidna on the reverse which is like an egg-laying hedgehog. It looks so adorable although the queen on the front does not look amused.

Here are the stats for this coin...
Type / Country: 5 Cents / Australia
Year: 1999
Mintage: 179,016,000
Metal: Copper-nickel
Value: $0.06 in VF

  1. Congrats on all of your recent finds! I actually got a few good finds today as well as some buys. Here: http://img441.imageshack.us/slideshow/webplayer.php?id=morg015.jpg are are two things I got, 1 a find and 1 one a buy. First off, is the bill an error? I'm guessing no since the ink spot doesn't match any of the other ink, but it's always good to ask. Second, what are both worth? I know that love tokens are less common on higher denominations so does that make up for all the damage and wear? Thanks!

Love token, no extra value above metal content. This is because the design is weak and well worn.

Dollar bill just has ink damage, not actually error.

  3. Hi, I have what seems to be a french 5 francs coin from 1946, that feels like it's made out of aluminum because it's so light. Any idea on what it's worth?

    About $0.20 and yes aluminum.

That said there are many varieties some worth more but you would need to put a picture online to have someone identify it.
