I recently bought one of those foreign coin lots where you get a pound of coins for ten bucks. I was able to identify all but one coin. Here it is.
I figured it wasn't a true coin because both side are identical and it looks cheap. By cheap I mean the field is not smooth and the design isn't sharp.
I went through all my books, other websites and even posted in coin forums. All the information I got is that it is Japanese and the Japanese characters spell Western. Some believe it is a pachinko token.
In pachinko parlors people play these semi-gambling machines and win balls then use those to get token at slot machines or to trade for prizes.
As for value I don't know anyone who collects pachinko tokens. Also I still don't know if this a gaming token or something else. If I find out more I'll let you know.

The front has what is known as a "3rd printing shifting ink error" it means that the notes were off center when the going through the last printing.
The back has an "overprint on the back" it happens when a sheet of notes is placed upside down in the press.
Together it is a "Multiple error note" this means in the condition you describe it starts at $1000.00. Getting it certified through a grading company like PCGS will raise its value.

It should be a 1934-C note, it is about $12.00.
If the front corner number were 2028-2031 it would have been a $50.00 note because a new pattern was temporarily used.
Still a nice note.
I have several Canadian pennies with no date stamp. By the aging of the Queen of the back, they are obviously minted at different times.

Still if it was an error it would be a minor one called struck through grease or faded dies. Little to no extra value.

I have a 1998, $5.00 Canadian bill that has some printing errors. The bill appears to have been over printed on the front with the desgin from the back and the back of the bill only has part of the the printing on it. The bill was caught at a bank before anyone actually used the bill and I understand that there was less than one page of these bills released in error. It has been preserved and is perfect condition. Any idea how much this bill may be worth?

The buyer's price is about $5.50 meaning the if anyone were to sell this note they should expect to sell it for $5.50 add shipping and insurance it would be $10.

ReplyDeleteNot a coin sounds like a medal made by the American Revolution Bicentennial Co. probably worth around $10.00 if silver. About $350 if gold although cheap ones made of non-silver and non-gold exist.
Not very collectible since it is not a real coin or medal. If it were a coin it would have a denomination.

ReplyDeleteThat is difficult with medal it may be 75% silver or just plated.
Weight would be the best guess. It should weigh exactly 1 ounce. The content of silver would be on the box. Silver also looks very different from nickel.
Below is a site that I think has your medal each is either silver, gold or bronze. Ignore their prices its overpriced.

The antique finish and any bronze with a silver-plating may be more valuable if it has the packaging. Without packaging it's hard to verify.

The corner numbers are plate numbers that identifies what plate was used to print the note. It is mostly for the government to keep track with the master plate.
Collectors started trying to match and collect them to see if some were rare or common.

That said their are more than 570 varieties of these coins so you would need an expert to tell you which you have but the average value for this type is $225.00.

Don't clean it as, it should be kept in a PVC-free sleeve made for holding bills.
In this condition it may not be worth grading but if you can afford to find an authorized PCGS dealer and find out if the ink can be removed and if they can grade it.

I have a 2006 twenty dollar bill that is smaller than a regular $20, I checked it under a black light and it has the invisible strip, I took it to my bank, they checked it out and marked it with the currency marker, it is real but it is significantly smaller than a regular $20. Either way it has no extra value. Although there is a company that does this on purpose ans sells them for $5 above face, novelty value.

ReplyDeleteThis is a real ten cents coin from Hong Kong it is made of nickel-brass and should look copper color. They're worth about $0.10.
If you think it is not nickel-brass but real copper it might be an error but it needs to be weighed.

Most are common except for some errors none are above $100.00.
Would it be ok to clean these coins with a baking soda/water combo,or should i just leave them as is?
Leave them.
The safe way to use baking soda is
Baking soda in hot water and a hunk of aluminum.
Soak it without scrubbing and wait and add hot water and wait and it takes a long time but removes sulfur and tarnish safely.
Most cleaning involves just soaking in olive oil or something safe, never scrub.

I would say it's good about $150.00.

ReplyDeleteI don't check email so it wouldn't matter either try to put them online or drop your email and I'll get it and erase it immediately.
I'll just try to describe them as best I can in sections starting with the most interesting. The oldest one is nearly smooth but I can just make out the year 1869. On same side as the year there's a profile I can just make out that looks like the same figure I see on some pence pieces I have sitting with a shield and holding a branch but there's no trident or lion at the figure's feet from what I can tell, and I can just make out the EN of what I assume is part of PENCE. On the opposite side there's a profile of a woman facing the opposite way than Elizabeth II on newer pence pieces. On the bottom left edge I can make out VI then it smooths out. On the top left G: Top right BR then it smooths out. Bottom right D:

It's about $3.00 probably less.
Then there's some pence pieces in a heptagonal shape. 50 New Pence 1969 and 1970. 10 New Pence 1970 and 1971. Hello, third time I coming to you with a question. I came across a 1909 (no mint mark) wheat penny in my pocket change. As you would expect from pocket change it is beat up and worn quite a bit, back is worse than the front. Is this a good find and is there any value?

ReplyDeleteOn the reverse at the bottom if the initials V.D.B. are visible it's about $5.00.
If not it's about $1.00.
Even the worst 1909 always carries a premium unless it was cleaned or altered.

No such thing only the letters A-L exist this is some outside mint damage, it can be confirmed with the serial number.

ReplyDeleteIt is exactly what you described the serial number and seals are printed upside down by accident.
This is a Type I error is the upside-down portion is centered.
If you can see a piece of another bill on the top then it is a Type II worth slightly more.

I've heard of these and they went for about $45.00 for years but recently I have not heard of any being sold.
These are obsolete and the problem recently has been an influx of forgeries ruining the market.
Just some thoughts to be aware of if ou plan to sell, it will be tough

However, on the lower right side of the front, there is a tiny B1. Lastly, the green seal on the right is a really light green color, but I dont know if that's significant or not. Either way it is not that important it's about $120.00 in very-fine.

Sounds like a Faulty Alignment error about $35.00.
I have one of the half-ounce silver bullion dollars produced by the Royal Canadian Mint; a 2006 year wolf design. I know that in itself isn't worth much, but this one has had some gold applied to the wolf and QEII's portrait. Can you tell me if this was done by the RCM or whether it is a modification done by a 3rd party? Would this increase, decrease or leave the value unaffected?

It's about $9.00 mostly for the silver but it probably can never be graded.

Hi, my brother has a $100 dollars bill Series 1996 serial number AL 58939784 B L12 With serial number that supposed to appear on the upper left corner appearing in the lower right corner upside down and in revrse and the number that supposed to be on the lower right corner appears on the upper left corner also upside down and in reverse. The green symbol with the scale is on the left side next to the eagle symbol upside down, instead of being on the right. The bill looks real with watermark. ReplyDeleteIt means that there was an a problem printing the regular notes an a series of star notes were used to replace them.
Since they are replacements sometimes the are made less so they may have extra value depending on year and serial number.
