Keeping an eye out of the five dollar bills I received in my change I finally found a 2009. These are fairly new and have a low production rate. I estimate that I must have come across 200 or so fives before finding the this new one.
To remind everyone these are not special or rare but I just like collecting at least one of every series. They came out in May of 2011 and the last production was in September 2012. Overall the runs have been short.
No major changes from the last series, except of course the signatures. I expect a new series soon as the 2009-A $100 bill are already circulating.

I have a 2001 series $5 bill that is off-set . The print was almost cut off near the top face of the bill. It is crisp, unfolded and kept in plastic sleeve. The serial number starts with CF. Any idea as to the value?

I just came across a $5 series 1934 (no star) the serial begins e0197
ReplyDeletethere are definite fold lines across the bill, but none of the ink is worn off from them, it is not torn either. i'm more interested in how many $5s were minted in this series/where mine lies. (it's a federal reserve note, not silver certificate)

I have a 1981 series $5 bill that is offset by quite a bit on the front and back. I can also see a lot of what is printed on the front in reverse on the back. I got it back with my change at a gas station, so it's not in great condition.

Hello. I have 5, $5 1963 U.S. Notes. Serial numbers are A17715779; A24215164; A36747131; A43992048; A54062371. The A2 and A4 are pristine, and the other three are slightly circulated. Red markings. Thanks so much for any information on them, and value.

Thanks for the reply on the $5 U.S. Notes! I was hoping you were still posting. My father died last year, and he was an avid money in circulation accumulator, for lack of a better term. We have found close to 125 $1, $2, and $5 FRNs that seemingly should be worth face value. However, these date from 1953-1999 and almost uncirculated and upward in grade. I am guessing he got the change, either from a bank, or a newly opened register at the store, if that makes sense. Quite a few are in series (actually most of them do). I think it's too much to post here, given your time/value. Several dealers were less than enthusiastic when I brought them in, but I got that same response when I brought in a few circulated Bison bills that had been appraised for $900+. So, I get it. Question is: Worth researching or putting it toward a 1928 MS65 Peace Dollar?

Most notes between 1950 and now have little extra value and even if they did they must be graded and that would cost as much as the value.
Bison bills take a lot of research but it may be worth it and them yes I would sell it for silver.
Get som note books and try to see what they say.
