1981 $20 Bill, B-E

Have any $20 bill and want to know its value? Leave a comment

It has no "modern" security features and in the 1980s was counterfeited more than every other note in the world. This note is about thirty years old and would likely pass the "pen test" in banks. That test uses either the pH value of money, which should be high, or the starchiness, which should not exist. The problem is that old notes pick up so much the often fail the pen test. Still nothing is as accurate as holding the money and feeling it to see this old note is real.

Another changed in these notes were the size of the sheets printed at once. Previously they printed 40,000 sheets (1,280,000 notes) for each run. Thanks to better machines they started printing 100,000 sheets (3,200,000 notes) per run.  Each year the printing gets better and some new presses around the world can handle huge sheets and runs close to a million. I am not sure what the U.S. is doing but maybe one day I can take a trip to D.C. and see it in person.

Here's the stats for this bill...
Type/Federal Bank: $20 Note - D.C. / New York
Year: 1981
Printings: 99,840,000
Printed: October 1983
Run: 8th of 31 from B25600001E - B28800000E
Value: $25.00 in EF

Do you have currency and want to know its value? Leave a comment/question and I will do my best to find out the price and history for you.

  3. I have seven 1950 series (US) ten dollar bills that I picked up once upon a time. They are in very good condition as far as I can tell. They were flat when I received them several years ago and have kept them flat in a book. They may have been folded at some point in the past but any creases are very very faint at most.

  8. Have $20 1996 series bill perfect condition with 3 errors. Paper has irregular upper left corner extra 1/4 by 1 inch. Part of left serial # missing on front but printed with upward angle on back of irregular corner and can see crease where had folded over.
    What is value?

  9. Do you have any suggestions on how to better preserve them?

Just keep them in a cool, dark, and dry place.

You can buy PVC-free holders but not really needed for these common notes.

The $10 1950 J25853562A back no. 1411 is your best since that is a Narrow variety and the last of the old fashion 12-subject sheets.

  15. 1988 series $20 bills from walmart today H 05245682 B and sequential bill H 05245683 B

    They are series 1988-A notes.

They are common and in crisp-uncirculated they are about $25.00 each but anything less is just $20 each.

These notes were actually printed in June of 1991.

Having sequential notes that are old are common. Because anyone can get them from banks new and sequential and hold on to them for years. If they never double in value then most collectors just spend them.

    Just $20.00.
Value is determined by how many are printed, less than 640,000 have extra value.
Next is condition, any fold or fading or un-sharp corner ruins the value. It should be unfolded and corners pointy.
Next is age anything 100 years old or older has extra value everything else is too new.

  81. Hello, I currently have 4- 1981 $20 notes that were saved from the bank I was paid with that had sat since they came from the bank they are the mintest, nicest bills I've ever received except from the bank New bills. These have 0 flaws, centering is perfect and they never were in circulation, as my customer had a stack from the bank from 81' in her vault she paid me with $1,000 worth but some wernt "Perfect" so I used and paid my guys with them, I kept 4 that are in holders now I ordered and don't have a flaw, I'm saying that there in 99% condition. Should I send in the serial numbers and I was wondering with the condition as good as any new bill I've received could they have any value that is above the $25-$75 I've seen quoted here in good condition. I Just have never seen a bill 35 years old that's literally perfect. An there Real others passed a pen test. Could I have any chance of a really valuable Bill out of the 4 perfect 99% condition 1s I kept? I'm hoping for some guidance. Thank you kindly. Joe
