1996 $50 Bill, AB-B

Have a fifty dollar note and want to know its value? Leave a comment

The last of my fifties and also the oldest I own. This is the first of the redesign $50 notes. It features a larger portrait, a hologram 50, and several major design changes after decades of no significant change.

True this is really not that old but I only started seriously collecting when they first announced the state quarters around 1996 or 1997. Before that I never really kept any large notes.

Confession Time
I am not only a coin/currency collector but I am also a user. Since I know most of these notes are common and have little to no value over face I have been known to use them. I always say collect from you change because you will not feel bad if you choose to use them.

Luckily I got this one new and crisp and for some reason I did not use it. I think I had older ones but they got spent long ago.

Here's the stats for this bill...
Type/Federal Bank: $50 Note / New York
Year: 1996
Printings: 556,800,000
Printed: December 1997
Run: 20th of 31 from AB60800001B - AB64000000B
Value: $55.00 in Crisp-Uncirculated

Do you have currency and want to know its value? Leave a comment/question and I will do my best to find out the price and history for you.

  1. I know what you mean by being a user. I've spent my fair share of coins and bills that were saveable, but only worth face value. Most of the following coins, however, are hopefully worth over face value. http://img819.imageshack.us/slideshow/webplayer.php?id=cfe123015.jpg

I bought most of them yesterday from a foreign coin bin for about $0.03 a piece. The two I am most curious as to the values of are the Panamanian 1 Centesimo which is missing the copper plating and the blank coin which I am guessing is a German 5 Pfennig coin. It is almost exactly the same size and seems to only be missing the brass plating. Also, the Maui Trade Dollar was graded AU-58 by the PGS, now the IGS, and is sealed in a plastic holder. Thanks in advance for your appraisal of these coins!

  2. @Dr. Math

Blank Coin, looks damaged but foreign blanks have little extra value. Not enough info to make a estimation.

    1942 Netherlands 10 cents about $0.20

1983 Panama Centesimo looks acid dipped but even if real just a few dollars, again foreign errors are not popular since standards are lower.

2004 Maui Trade Dollar about $7.50 in AU 58

Showbiz Pizza Place token about $4.00

    1964 Viet-Nam 10 Dong about $0.25

    MBTA Token about $2.00

    1952 Canada dime about $1.80

Just a bank stamp. These are placed to verify a bill is real. No extra value.

  13. Hi, I found a 1996 $50 bill off center... top border is much smaller than the bottom border but is not missing any ink. It also is an AA-A serial number (I don't have the numbers, but there was nothing special about them). I saw a bill similar to this on eBay for upwards of $500 but figured that was a huge stretch. Is this bill worth anything more than just face value? Thanks.

    No extra value.
eBay prices are false unless the auction was completed and sold.
