2003 Iceland Krona

Have an Iceland coin and want to know its value? Leave a comment

With a giant on the front this coin seems almost mythic. The design is like something out of a comic book or cartoon but still classic. I can imagine a giant blowing down cold winds from the north onto a small fishing village.

EIN KRÓNA (ONE KRONA) ÍSLAND 2003 (ICELAND 2003)
1 KR
That is a cod on the back. I know it is not deep fried but I guess this is how it looks before it gets yummy.

Here's the stats...
Type/Country: 1 Krona / Iceland
Year: 2003
Mintage: 5,144,000
Metal: Nickel Plated Steel
Value: $0.35 in Extra-Fine

Do you have a coin from Icalend and want to know its value? Leave a comment/question and I will do my best to find out the price and history for you.

  1. Quick question. Why does the bottom of your post say "Do you have a quarter from Canada and want to know its value? Leave a comment/question and I will do my best to find out the price and history for you"? Also what is a 1916 British 3 pence coin in fine worth?

  2. First, copy & paste laziness, it should be fixed now.

1916 British 3 pence coin in fine about $1.50

  3. That is a pretty coin. It reminds me of a page out of a well illustrated children's book....or comic book. ;)

  5. The design is really cool! The coin does look somewhat fake because of the design, so it probably it harder to find here.

The fact that it's steel is a reason that it is harder to find.

Although quarter size it will easily get rejected by machines and has less of a chance to circulate.

It is why I have fewer Canadian steel coins then the zinc versions.

  7. I have a 1989 Ein Krona Island, with the norse God, and the cod with 1KR on the back with the cod...found it at work one day, somebody had used it, thinking it was one of our nickles...I happened to notice it was different, it looked almost like play money or a token from something. Just curious, thanx.

Assuming you meant 1 Krona 1984 from Iceland.

    These were common and normal.
    7,000,000 made from copper-nickel.

    In extra-fine condition it's about $0.20.

Maybe you are thinking of a different coin?

  13. Who is the Norse God on the coin? I have a 1981 with the Cod fish on one side and the God on the other, and I was curious as to the name of the God.

It is not a Norse God instead it is a Mountain Giant known as Bergrisi.
