2010 Canadian Cent, Zinc

Do you have Canadian cent and want to know its value? Leave a comment

Well it has not been that long since I got a 2010 United States cent and just as quickly I find its Canadian counterpart. Sure it is common and taste nothing of ham or bacon but it is new.

Pictured in hand, literally.
I know since 1999 these cents have been made of copper plated steel or zinc. A quick test to find out which you have is to see if it's magnetic, the steel version is magnetic. A more complicated way to test is to weigh it. The zinc is lighter at 2.25 grams while the steel is 2.35 grams. The one pictured above is exactly 2.25 grams and non-magnetic so it is zinc at its core.

There are other ways to check like mintmarks and Queen's head but with so many varieties it's easier to stick a fridge magnet on it to see what you have.

Here's the stats...
Type/Country: 1 Cent / Canada
Year: 2010 RCM Logo (Non-Magnetic)
Mintage: Not yet known.
Metal: Copper Plated Zinc
Value: $0.01 in F

Do you have a Canadian cent and want to know its value? Leave a comment/question and I will do my best to find out the price and history for you

  11. Both copper-plated zinc and steel have been used for pennies since 2002 (which means there were two kinds of pennies for each year). I haven't found a magnetic 2010 penny however. Perhaps the mint is settled on using zinc?

Apparently both types are still being made, others have found the steel kinds but I have not.
Hopefully the mintage will be published soon.

--Your pictures and video are too blurry.

But the shininess suggest that it is a fake. It should be a dark brown or deep red not polished.

Still the easiest way to tell is weigh it, use a 0.01 gram scale.

steelonecent 1943 and it has the mint marc about $0.30
