Dual Dates

Do you have a dual date coin and want to know its value? Leave a comment

My latest find is nothing too special. The 1992 Canadian ten cents is very common but it has something extra, a second date.

Dual date coins often commemorate some anniversary in this case the 125th birthday of Canada. In some foreign coins they have dual dates in different languages or for a leader's reign. The United States most famous dual dates were in 1976 for the country's bicentennial. Since then many U.S. coins have two or more dates thanks to the special quarter program.

Usually the dates are the year of issue and one in the past. Although coins dated with a future date are seen. The 2003 Missouri quarter has four dates 1821 (year it became a state), 1804 (year of discovery), 2004 (anniversary of discovery), and 2003 (year of issue).

When describing a coin with dual or multiple dates most of the time the oldest date is the official date. Better is to describe all the dates, rarely is the earliest date the issue date.

Sometimes I get frustrated when someone says..
Commenter: "I got a 10 cent Canada coin from 1867"
Man: "Not possible it doesn't exist."
Commenter: "Yeah I found in my change it is new and from 1867"
Man: "Can you describe it?"
Commenter: "Well it has a boat, Queen Elizabeth II, and looks like other Canadian 10 cents."
Man: "Does it have a 1992?"
Commenter: "Yes, but it's from 1867."
Man: Hmmmmmmmmmmm......

I understand you don't have to be an expert on coins but a little bit of scientific analysis. Some common cents sense when looking at the coin.

Here's the stats...
Type / Country: 10 Cents / Canada
Year: 1992 (1867-)
Mintage: 174,476,000
Metal: 100% Nickel
Value: $0.10 in Fine

Do you have a foreign coin and want to know its value? Leave a comment/question and I will do my best to find out the price and history for you.

Yes you left it on another page. I'll repost it here.

1934A 10 dollar bill ser#A53600292A with the number 631 on the back.
About $11.00 this is the more common note if the back number was 585 or less it would be worth more.

2 dollar bill 1976 series the ser # is A00000285*

  4. Found a Canadian coin, just slightly larger than a loonie, silver in colour, with the penny design on one side (except the "1 Cent" at the top has been replaced by "2005", and the normal spot for the year is blank), with the back bearing the logo for the Royal Canadian Mint. I'm assuming it's not normal circulation but any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.

    I'm sorry but I don't understand.
Is the Queen on one side or is it the maple leafs.
Can you write any words on the front and back?

  6. Sorry for being unclear. The queen is not on the coin at all. The maple leafs are on one side, with the RCM logo centered on the other side. In a band/circle around the RCM logo it reads "Royal Canadian Mint" across the top and "Monnaie Royale Canadienne" around the bottom.

This can not be a coin it must be a token or medal. A Canadian coin must show the Queen, motto, year, and the denomination, there are some exceptions but enough info should be there.

It is also not listed in any of my reference books or on any Canadian Coin sites.

I'll assume it's silver and about $25 if the size of a Loonie.

Sorry I couldn't help more, if you decide to post a picture I'll show it around maybe someone else may know what it is.

  27. Hello,

I have a Canadian Dime, one side has the Blue-nose and the date is very hard to read, but looks like 1969. The other side is blank with a very faint outline of the Queen's head and has no rim around the edge. Do you think this is damage from someone or a error made during stamping?

Sounds like a weak strike or a struck through grease error which has no extra value.

Do you know what the value is of a Canadian quarter that says on the tails side: 1604 2004 and has a ship on it? I did some research on it and I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the Acadia. I thought I'd tell you that to help you figure out it's value.

It would be indented under Lincoln's shoulder where the bust meets the field of the coin.

That said on older coins it common gets worn down first, also it would get filled with gunk when pressing a coin and commonly it would not show up. This is a Struck Through Grease error but it is so common it has no extra value.

All in all not seeing the little VDB is normal and means nothing special...most of the time.

  44. Reading the comments, I saw from January 25 a post about a 2000p dime. I was lead to believe that there were only 250 of these made and worth more than $60. Can you give any more details?

Also I was wondering if you could share any information on the rare 1969 dime. What is rare about it and is there a special marker or an error on it, or is it just all '69 dimes.

    Thanks!

The amount made and in circulation is unknown, 250 is an estimate.
$60 in very-fine or circulated. Since the person did not describe condition I assume a low grade if mint condition about $500. High mint (MS-65) $2,000 or more.

Also I was wondering if you could share any information on the rare 1969 dime. What is rare about it and is there a special marker or an error on it, or is it just all '69 dimes.
Two varieties of 1969 Canada dimes were made:
Large date about $12,500.00 in very-fine
Small date about $0.10 in very-fine

About 20 estimated of the large and 55.8 million are normal.

  49. I just went on www.colonialacres.ca and the value of the 1970 is 40$ and the 2000 with a P is 25$

At 1970 5-cent ICCS MS-65 it is $40.00 while the same site has a MS-60 at $2.00, if yours is pulled from change and is G-4 then it is just $0.05.

The grading scale is from 1-70.

The same holds true for the 2000-P.

I always assume the coins are from the U.S. and are a low grade of G-4.
Unless you clearly state the country and grade I can only give the low values. But if you did have these coins professionally graded then list the grade I will tell you the current buyers value.

I have a Canadian penny. On the front it has Elizabeth II in the middle of the penny's front on the left sideways going around it reads 'ELIZABETH II' and on the right of her it reads 'D.G.REGINA'. On the back of the penny it has the two attached maple leaves in the middle of the penny's back and above the leaves it reads '1 cent' and going around the bottom of the leaves it reads 'CANADA'. On the left of the leaves it reads '1867-1992' and on the right of the leaves, in smaller print, it reads KG. Is this unique Canadian penny worth more than a cent by now? If so how much is it worth?
