Well it's been a while since I posted some of my recent finds. Again I blame this on low cash usage. I've been using credit cards a lot and just buying with exact change. Still I received in my change some nice finds.
A few wheat cents but I only pictured the best one below. This 1957-D cent is still red, although a little banged up. Next I found an Israeli New Sheqel from 2006. Then the last coin I found was the oldest coin I ever got from change. It's an 1890 Indian Head cent in slightly damaged condition.
Obverse and reverse.All the wheat cents I found have been from the 1950s but finding that 118 year old cent was a fair trade-off.
I've been so busy with other things that I have not bought a coin, book, or anything numismatic related for the last couple of months. Although I'm not a big buyer I do like getting the newest books. Luckily change finds still exist even at this low rate. I've found only 5 interesting coins in 2008 last year it was only 4 by this time. I miss the old days when I found 50 or 60 every three months.

ReplyDeleteMost worn cents grade good(G-4) which means the word LIBERTY is no longer visible, but the date is readable.
As long as there is no damage it would be about $3.00.

I'll assume MS-63 it would be about $22.00.
Also look for a V.D.B. on the reverse at the bottom it is about the same value in either variety.

ReplyDelete- Series 1896 D "Education Note" Silver Dollar 251628. Not sure what the grading would be - I'd have to say probably VG at best as there are noticeable creases with a tear that does extend in the crease into the printing a bit with the center crease.
- 1923 Silver Certificate. M5274851D. I'd say possibly EF to VF on grading.
- 1928 Silver Certificate G87381344A. Probably AU on grading. Clean, crisp, no creasing, sharp corners, etc.
- Series 1935 A Silver Certificate. R92209532C with H5503. EF to VF on grading probably.
- Series 1935 E Silver Certificate. G24182737H with D7687. This one I think would be graded as AU.
- Series 1957 A Silver Certificate G04803576A. AU or possibly UNC

ReplyDeleteIt would be on the front under the date if there is none that means it is from Philadphia. The penny is the only coin that never carries a P for Philadpelhia instead it is left blank.
It's about $0.03 in good.

ReplyDeleteI have a double headed penny...the strange fact about it, is that one side shows that it is a 1917 and the other shows a date of 1915. It does not look like 2 pennies thathave been fused together because it is the same thickness as a regular penny. Any idea on how it got like this or what it might be worth?

These type of errors are not possible I have seen this done and it is very easy to do check the inner rim and you will see where it was drilled.

ReplyDeleteThe 2006 Shequel has Medal Alignment meaning if holding the coin between you fingers with the 1 face upright and you spin it to the left or right the back will also face upright.
On the error the 1 is facing upright but the back is upside down, this is Coin Alignment and an error for this coin only.
All American coins have Coin Alignment. All Canadian Coins have Medal Alignment.
Little has been known about this error and the initial value was $200 but I've not heard of any discoveries since March 2008.
Need help! I recently found a 1935 Lincoln head penny. What's unusual is the opposite side has a 1936 lincoln head on it. and both sides are aligned, not rotated.

The term is Doubled Die is when the die used to make the coin is stamped twice. Then every coin made from that die has a distinct doubling.
The doubling looks round and on the same level as the regular design.
Machine doubling is when the coin itself is stamped twice, the doubling looks flat is is lower than the original design. This one has no value.

Not sure what you mean by embossed but it sounds like a extra-fine or better coin.
If so it's about $1.50.

My friend worked in a bank at the time, and placed the 13 cent stamp in the upper right hand corner of each bill, along with the postmark from the Hollywood post office, April 13, 1976. I have a Indian Head Penny from 1863 that appears to say "UNITED STATES OOF AMERICA" on the front...with the first O looking like the inside was drilled out. You can still make out what appears to be the outside of the first O and it appears to be in perfect proportion to the second O. Anyone have an idea what I have here? Is it valuable?

ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a Dropped letter error, it is rare and would be worth a few hundred if no more.
But many fakes exist the only way to find out is having it graded.

It is a French 10 centime coin and the date is 1854. hope this helps.

If the eagle and the words surrounding it are upside down relative to the front then that is normal.

ReplyDeleteI have a couple of questions regarding recent coins I have found while rolling pennies.
First, I found a 1992 penny that the date looks 3D or something? And the 2 is very small. I compared it to other 1992 pennies to see if all the dates looked this way but it's only this one that looks like this.. Is this common?
Second, I found a 1986 penny that is missing the L in liberty. Otis so close to the rim that I'm thinking the L just couldn't fit bu and curious if this was a common error as well.
Third being a 1985 penny with no rim. It honestly looks like it was burnt or something.. Very black along the edge.. Is this normal?
4th penny I have a question about is a 1977 penny that is really bizarre.. This is going to be hard to explain but I'll try.. It looks like the penny itself was smashed or dented or melted before united states was was printed on the penny. The N in ONE isn't straight and a lot thicker than the N in cent. The U in united actually looks like a V. The penny is all scratched up looking Th penny has a bunch of scratches/dents all over it. Is this possible or did someone take all their anger out on this poor little penny?? ;)

strange one.. got this in change about 15 years ago... US 1 cent front looks normal but back only has some kind of arch. looks like the peace arches at the border in White rock BC... 1989. one person said they made tests where they curculated test pennies to see how they stand up and then recall them.. said this might be one. another said someone made it. any ideas?

Hey Man... Got a bill at work today. It's a Series 1950E $10 bill... Serial # is B53558097K... Pretty good condition. The TEN across the seal looks slightly off center. Also, I was doing some googling and saw someone say something about one of the flags on the back being upside down. The bill I have has this as well. Any idea on a value?

Also the flag is not upside down it is waving in the wind and to some people it looks upside down. This is an optical illusion.
Have a few more things I'm wondering if have any extra value...

ReplyDeleteU.S. coins and this Panama 1/10 Balboa have Coin alignment.
This means when the coin is face up and you turn it over left and right the back is upside down. This is normal.
If your coin is not like U.S. coin alignment then it is an error. If so it would start at $5.00 if circulated and a low grade.
I have a 1988 d quarter that looks black on the front. Almost like led. On the back it is a maroon color with a silver edge around it on the facial part of the back. If u look at it from the side u can see the copper layer but the silver layer isn't silver it is that dark maroon color no silver at all on the edge. What is the problem with this quarter? Is it an error or is it just weathered? The color will not wipe off with a towel and I don't wanna mess it up. Is it worth anything?

Were it a missing clad error it would not have a black side.
To be certain it should be looked at in hand since pictures are not good enough. Set it aside until you can find a coin club or shop that will give you an opinion in person.
Well I apologize it looks more like u took a pencil and colored it in real good on the front. More dark grey than black. How about the dark maroon color on the back? It doesn't look like it has ever been heated before. I'm a welder and I can tell that. Wounder if it has been dropped in some chemical somehow.

Heating in an oven is a way many fake errors are made. The copper comes to the top making one side pink/red/maroon and the other black/grey.
Also chemical is possible acid rain or any acid also does this.

I have a war nickel dated 1945 the obverse at first looks like it is bulging out frm the bottom and when u flip the coin it looks like a rrgular nickel except somebody tried to bend it or something and it isn't very beat up so I examined close with a magnifying glass and in the right light almost looks like the back of a newer cent(lincoln memorial- I know....not possible in 1945 as they did not exist then) it also has a liberty torch at the bottom of reverse from the D in united up to the F in 5 cents
