Got two official mint sets a month ago. The first set are my scans of the U.S. Silver Proof Set and the second is a picture I took off the official government site of the U.S. Mint Set because the new packaging is almost impossible to scan.
I included a scan of the box the presidential proof dollars came in because it was such a nice looking box. The silver in these coins are only in the quarters, dime, and half dollar. All of them contain the S mint mark for San Francisco.
The mint sets are just normally struck coins that have not been placed into circulation. The new part is the vinyl like package that attaches the coins information to the coin. It makes it hard to display them and harder to lay flat. Hopefully a better package will be used in the future.
The is one mint set from Denver that has the D mintmark on each coin while the other is from Philadelphia and contains the P mint mark for all the coins except for the one cent because that one never carries the P mintmark.14 coins for the first Proof set and 28 coins in the mint set but since I got it from the mint directly shipping and handling was a flat $4.95.

Not to influence anyone but they do make a nice gift. Even if the person already has them it is like giving money...you know what I mean. They can usually be sold for a nice profit if you are in need of some quick cash.

Yes that is the way they were released into circulation. They are very common and in mint state it is only about $0.20 these days.

It should stick to a magnet. If it does not stick then it is silver and a real proof.

ReplyDeleteWith coins this valuable it is hard to tell if it is real. Many fakes exist, only five 1913 nickels exist but over a thousand fakes have shown up.
ReplyDeleteTo tell if rare coins are real you need to pay a coin grading company like PCGS to verify it.

ReplyDeletefirst I have a 1953 silver certificate with the blue seal and blue serial number and second I have a one dollar bill that looks like the print from the front is on top of the back including George Washington's face but he is facing the oposite direction and the federal reserve note print is also backwords. I'm not sure if this could be a misprint or just one bill was place on top of another before the ink was dry. thanks for any info you can give me

Sounds like an Offset Printing error it's about $50.00.

ReplyDeleteNo matter who you contact you still need to give more information about your bills including sending pictures if you want a more exact value.
If there is a coin shop in your area bring it to them or go to a book store and compare your bills to the ones in the coin value books.

Try weighing it just in case.
it dont look squished. both sides look good the side all the way around is silver with a little bit of a ridge on both sides. i did another search and someone posted that it might be worth about 50.00. you havnt heard of anything like this???

The "silver" is the zinc core.
"the size of a dime" is the part that leads me to think it that some one filed the edges.
Any cent minted inside the collar would be the size of a cent and can never be smaller.
