Oh, Canada

Do you have a Canadian coin and want to know its value? Leave a comment/question and I will do my best to find out the price and history for you.

I have been slow to get new coins mainly because I have to save money for college stuff. Apparently college gets more expensive the closer you are to graduating. Back to my coin shortage.

There are 3 main ways to get coins .
  1. Buy them but that cost time and money.
  2. Get them from family or friends but that gets annoying and is not worth it.
  3. Find them in your change which is what I mainly do.
As I use more credit cards and less actual cash I get less change. Add that to to the fact that lots of people are collecting or not using change this leaves few coins to find. When the second year of statehood quarters came out I was averaging about 2 new coins from change every 3 days. Now I am averaging 2 new coins from my change a month.

That all being said I still got these 3 coins from Canada in my American change.
2 silver dimes and one plated quarter.

Here are the stats...
Type/Country: 10 Cents/Canada
Year: 1958
Mintage: 10,621,236
Metal: 80% Silver, 20% Copper
Value: $0.79 in AG-3 (because this coin is very corroded so the value is just for the silver content)

Type/Country: 10 Cents/Canada
Year: 1967
Mintages: 32,309,135 for 80% or 30,689,080 for 50%
Metal: 80% Silver, 20% Copper or 50% Silver, 50% Copper
Value: $0.79 in F-12 for 80% or $0.49 in F-12 for 50%
(As far as I can tell there is no way to tell the 80% from the 50%, mine weighs 2.37 grams which is higher than the 2.33 grams it should weigh.)

Type/Country: 25 Cents/Canada
Year: 2004P
Mintage: 177,466,000
Metal: 94% Steel, 3.8% Copper, 2.2% Nickel
Value: $1.00 in MS-60

I just threw in the ruler for scale, I'm just testing it out.

Do you have a Canadian coin and want to know its value? Leave a comment/question and I will do my best to find out the price and history for you.

Your looks like a very good but that green stuff is PVC damage.

This occurs when it has put in a PVC holder and the green stuff is mainly permanent and damaging.

You can try to use real acetone, not nail polish remover to stop further greening. Just soak it for some time and tap dry with a cloth.

The value is $1.00 or less mainly because the damage, if you place it with other coins the green stuff will spread. This is why you found it in change, some collector put it in circulation to save his other coins.

    Still a great find.

PS without the green it would be worth $3.00.

  3. So what are good holders for coins. I had some mini ziploc type bags I've been storing the newer ones in. The older one i keep in cardboard coin storage cases I bought at hobby lobby.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Most coin holders today are PVC-free only the older holders damages coins.

Cardboard 2x2 holders are generally fine.

Some put them in ziplock bags or food safe containers to keep moisture away.

Coin albums, not folders, with sleeves are also fine for circulated coins.

For uncirculated or higher value coins...
    Airtite brand holders
    Intercept Shield brand holders

Google search will turn up lots of sellers for each kind of holder or you can try a local hobby shop.

Some people place silica gel packs near the coins in holders to absorb moisture.

    6,934,000 minted

It looks in at least fine condition, I see know feather or wreath details. It may have some PVC damage I can't really tell.

    1964 about $0.05
    1963 about $0.05
    1949 about $0.25
    1943 about $0.45

    US penny
    1937 about $1.00

    Great Britain 1979 New Penny
    About $0.15

    53, 63, 64 5 cent coins?????
At least give a country or more details.

    2005 with a pig??
Sounds like Bermuda one cent about $0.25

    1967 with a rabbit??
Sounds like Ireland 3 Pence about $0.25

Of course these values are in extra-fine meaning sharp details all over. If not then value drops rapidly.

  13. 1 Cent 1958 Canada

    Average buyers price is $0.03.
    Mostly for the copper content.

Unless the coin is perfect, shiny, and red then maybe $0.15.

I like the way you phrased the question because it may be valued at a higher price but few dealers would buy it for more then face value. It is one of the risk when collecting coins for profit.

Hi thanks for responding to me
I did in fact take your advice and found out more about the coin in question. The result is that it is not made from copper like all the other Canadian 1 cents. And I also did notice that there is something missing from this coin that is on other Canadian coins which is under the head of DG Regina Elizabeth there is not the little circle with what I think is a castle. At least that is what it looks like to me under a magnifier.
My question to you Man is if by any chance are you familiar with such a coin and what is the value of it.
I truly would appreciate your help.

About $55.00 in low grade, this is a key coin and can quickly go up in value if graded.

In the world the 1943 U.S. cent made of copper.

  111. OK, I see the original answer said no such coin, but I have a VG Canadian Penny from 1970 with Maple Leaves on the front and a Pig on the back or perhaps it is intended to be a Boar, I can post a picture if that would help. I don't see any for sale on eBay and I have never seen one like it before.
