The mintmark on a 1912 nickel is located on the reverse of the coin.
At the bottom locate the word CENTS to the left is a dot, underneath the dot is the mintmark.
It will be a D, S or blank for Philadelphia.
That is the only Liberty nickel that has a mint mark but here's a list of other common U.S. coins and where to locate their mintmarks.
Indian Head Cent--underneath the wreath on the reverse.
Wheat Penny--underneath the date on the front.
Memorial Cent--underneath the date on the front.
Buffalo Nickel--underneath the FIVE CENTS on the reverse.
Jefferson Nickel (1938-1942)-on the right of the building on the reverse.
Jefferson Wartime Nickel (1942-1945)-on top of the building on the reverse.
Jefferson Nickel (1946-1965)-on the right of the building on the reverse.
Jefferson Nickel (1966-2004)-on the right at the end of the date on the front.
Jefferson Nickel (2005)-on top of the date on the front.
Jefferson Nickel (2006-Present)-under the date on the front.
Mercury/Winged Liberty Dime--on the reverse at the bottom to the left of the torch.
Roosevelt Dime(1946-1964)--on the reverse at the bottom to the left of the torch.
Roosevelt Dime(1965-2008)--on the front above the date.
Standing Liberty Quarter--on the front to the left of the date on the right of a star.
Washington Quarter(1932-1964)--underneath the wreath on the reverse.
Washington Quarter(1965-1998)--on the front to the right above the date.
State Quarters--underneath IN GOD WE TRUST on the front.
I'll stop there because for half dollars and dollar it gets a bit more lengthy.

I assume you meant 1995 which would make it only a penny or in mint-state 65 only $0.20.
ReplyDeleteIf the 1 is missing it is a common error and would only make it $0.30 in a high mint state.
is a 1966 quarter worth more than 25 cents?

ReplyDeleteI have a 1967 dime whose metal layers are partially delaminated between the copper layer and th eback metal layer. What is it's value?
ReplyDeleteFor any Roosevelt Clad dime the value starts at $16.00 the more copper coming through the more it is worth. If it is missing the entire layer then it is $125.00.
ReplyDeleteI have uncirculated buffalo nickels with Jefferson on one side and a buffalo on the other they are 2005 nickels waht are they worth now.
ReplyDelete2005 nickels uncirculated buffalo nickels are worth at most $0.20 each but they are so common you can get them at face value.
ReplyDeleteIt will be ten or fifteen years before any real value will grow from them.
Hi, My friend has what he claims is a 1970 US nickel made of copper. He swears it is not discoloring or fading, he says the copper is solid. Can he possibly be right and if so what is the value? Thanks for your time, Leigh
ReplyDeleteIt is possible and the prices range from $100 to $15,000.
ReplyDeleteThe problem is finding out what kind of error may cost you up to $50.
Here are some examples...
1971 $135
1964 $450
1983 $15,000
Get good pictures, weigh the coin, and don't clean it. E-mail Fred Weinberg or any other error expert and they will direct you on what to do.

ReplyDeleteLooks fake to me, the letters on top are curving over the edge which would not happen at the mint.
Looks like someone did this at home.
Still if not sure then have it looked at in hand by an expert. I have no clue on value since I can't say what type of error it might be.
